Amidar (US/Stern)

----------------------------------------------------

ROMset: amidaru.zip (Note: Not the parent set)

----------------------------------------------------

Default settings:
Lives: 3
Bonus: 30000 70000

----------------------------------------------------

- One credit only!

- No continues or adding credits!

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Wednesday December 14th (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2011.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.

- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Best of luck!

----------------------------------------------------

A few notes, I chose the US/Stern set because I don't think it's had any filename changes over the years (some early MAME versions call it "US", later on it's 'Stern", but it should be the same set "amidaru". The parent set has changed filenames recently). I also chose it, because it's the set you'd most likely find in the US arcades, since it was the version licensed to Stern. It also shows the number of jumps you have left, whereas the original Konami one didn't, which is kinda nice :)

Glad I picked one a few people like this time ;) I've always liked this one, even had it on the Atari 2600 as a kid. They had it in the tournament at Funspot this summer, but when I went there last month, it was having board issues :(

I used to run this game at full speed on 486s back in the late 90s.  The latest versions of MAME won't even run it properly on a 1+ GHz machine.   :P

I may have to drag my wife into this competition, this used to be one of her favorite games....

Luckily it works fine in V78. Which is good. I've never played this before, and it's perfectly suited to my cocktail cab (",)

I always found Amidar to be a borderline good game--kind of a Pac-Man ripoff, primitive graphics, but nevertheless addicting, with a good difficulty level to reward you but beat you just right, to keep you coming back for more...

I did rather enjoy playing it today.  My 2nd game netted 156,330.

You know it's time to dust your cabinet when you're playing the Amidar bonus round...(attached)

Thanks,
-Jason

Nice score! It was funny for me watching the guys play this at the Funspot tournament. I think I was the only one who didn't use my hand to backtrace from the bananas (I can usually do it quick enough visually). My biggest problem is after the 2nd one, I think the pig moves quicker across the top and I usually miss the one I want.

Nobody else want to submit a score? It doesn't have to be a first place score, fun to see how others are doing too :) My latest attempt I ended with 79800.

Jasonbar should pull a Billy Mitchell and let the rest of us post our 50k and 79k scores before he posts his 179k right at the deadline. More drama that way.

Yep, but then it has be posted via video tape that scrambles before the hi-score shows.  :duckhunt
