For the next round, Nbk_Orchid has chosen Caveman Ninja. There's several romsets out there, and I don't know if they all play the same, but we'll just use the parent set cninja.zip, which is Caveman Ninja (World revision 3).

Good luck!

----------------------------------------------------

ROMSet: cninja

----------------------------------------------------

Default settings, which should be:

Unknown: Off [All]
Lives: 3
Difficulty: Normal
Restore Life Meter: Off

----------------------------------------------------

- One credit only!

- No continues or adding credits!

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Friday June 10 (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2011.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition amongst forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

-Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

Best of luck!

Tips: get lucky with the power-ups--they're so varied & different that your whole game's success depends on which you get...oy...

Can't get into this one--I find the controls difficult...(I can't even manage to enter my initials properly!)

129,000 after a few sessions.

Thanks,
-Jason

Wow.  I'm surprised more people haven't given this a shot.  It seemed like a game everyone would enjoy.
355,500 here, but plenty of room for improvement (I lost all of my lives fighting this giant woolly mammoth boss that I did not know the pattern to ). I think I'm a fail at game choosing  :-\

Tips:  Definitely try and get a good weapon and stick with it.  Wheels are the best IMO.
Always "charge" you attack even when there is nothing on the screen.  Abuse the charge attack
Try and collect all the food you can.  It give you more points and heals you.  This means killing enemies where you can get to them.
Go mario and jump on the enemies that you cant kill in time and will hit you (this includes boulders)

There are youtube videos of people beating this game on one life if you need some more tips.

Though I like this one, I was a little surprised the pick was another 'beat-em up'.

The cavemen tire after too much charging, though.

I've only played this a few times in the past.  Played tonight since it was the new competition and managed to get past the 1st stage for the first time.

The past competitions...

How many people participate in these competitions, on average?

Would you like to make high score submissions automatic? We could set up virtual MAME folder on the internet and anyone who wanted to join competition would only need to change MAME directory path to point at shared "Hi" folder on the internet server instead of their local MAME folder. It would be as if we were all are playing on one and the same computer, anyone could set a new record at any time and everyone else would be able to know about it in real time.

Neat idea, but my MAME cab isn't networked...could there be a means of manual score submission to integrate w/ the automatic submissions?

Thanks,
-Jason

As Bart Simpson said when he sneakily grabbed Kent Brockman's Danish at the last moment before his newscast...

"YOINK!"

185,900.

And yet, I *still* can't manage to navigate the initials entry screen...how indicative of my attempts to navigate & understand the game itself...

Sorry, Mimic.  I'm a stinker.

Don't worry. If jason hadn't, I would've had you beat had I posted. I just wasn't paying attention who scored 375k.
