I love this game.  I'll have to get in on this competition even though I'm not that good at it (I think 54,XXX is my high score).  It is very challenging and figuring out the best places to drop the rocks is fun.

I played this last night and scored somewhere in the 30,000's, but my PC is not yet in a Cab and I'm using a keyboard to play.  Am I eligible to participate?  (Not that you should be afraid that I'll score anywhere near the top in ANY game mind you. ;))

Jav,

Yeah, I've played this game now and again for decades.....and I just realized last night that you can move through the red ones after inflating them.  Which allows you to move and get em in line for rocks.  Felt kinda silly.....since I saw that from the attract screen right before I exited the game.   :D

Rando,

I can't see why you wouldn't be able too....I don't think cab is a rule?

Forgot how fast and hectic things get going as you rack up the levels. For now, I topped out at 58,400.

And thanks for doing Dig Dug (I hinted at it for as an idea in the last competition thread).

Ya, it gets fast.  I think my high score is in the mod 50,000s.  Taking your time to knock off the bad guys one at a time works well.  I'll be posting soon!

EDIT: Got about 46,000.  I think I was doing 50,000+ on a different rev.

Got to 54,000 and change.

TIPS:
The first 4 levels or so, concentrate on killing baddies in twos with a rock.

Later levels, the bonus fruit is worth thousands.  It appears after dropping the second rock.  Be aware of this and get fruit.

The levels are programmed in a deterministic manner.  You'll notice that on level one, the baddie on the top left ghost himself first.  This always happens at the same time.  Point is, you can come up with a pattern for each level

When in trouble (multiple ghost getting close) do a double pump to slow bad guys.  One pump will not slow them up enough and you will get over-run.

Triple inflating under a rock turns baddies into points.  Triple inflate them and wait for a chance for a double kill

Just some thoughts.

3 at once is not much batter than 2 at once. {0 rock kill = 0, 1 rock kill = 1000 (+1000), 2 rock kill is 2500 (+1500), 3 rock kill is 4000(+1500)}

Yep, I definitely need to learn how to milk the rocks and food.  You scored twice my score even when I was a level ahead.   :applaud:

You should have dug just a little more dirt  :).
The extra man is at 60,000.

This is a pattern game, but I don't like memorizing patterns. I just try and kill everything as fast as I  can and drop the two rocks to get the bonus fruit/vegetable. The bonus is worth 8,000 points when you reach the pineapple.

74,670!

Tips (in addition to a post i made above)
- Levels 1-4 (or 1-5) concentrate on double kills.  If someone can tell me how to create an AVI, I can show you my level 1 pattern.  2 double kills and fruit reward!

- Level beyond 6 or 7, concentrate on getting the fruits.  This is especially true for levels 10+.

- Level 9.  I do not know why but this level jumps in difficulty.  Just kill half of the baddies as fast as you can!  They ghost very quickly.

Comments:
Level one is getting boring.  Probably due to the pattern I use.

After not getting out of the 50,000's, had it going, but threw away a couple lives at the end.

That is an impressive video, but isn't that person actually giving up points by not killing a few monsters and getting the vegetables in the early levels? Some of those were worth a couple grand and you get get them multiple times per level. <?>

^^I think the strategy here is to get the most monsters with one rock and wait until the later levels to get the fruit, when it actually worth more than killing the "extra" monster with the rock.

What I will try to do is to get to level 11, if possible without losing a life ::), and try the patterns for level 11,12,13,14 (rince and repeat for levels 15,16,17,18, ...) from the magazine article.  With it, you always get the fruit and it worth 4000 points and more.

You can only get the fruit/veg only once per level. It looks like he's maximizing the amount of points for each level. There's some great tips in the video like when dropping a rock, he goes back over the rock to lead the monsters back under the rock to die. He also doesn't kill the monsters vertically, but walks around to kill them horizontally to get more points. I don't nearly get as many points per level because I get bored with the game when all you're doing is pumping and leading one monster under a rock to get 1000 points. I'll just take the 200 points and go to the next level.

Makes sense. I thought a vegetable appeared every time you killed more than one monster.

Wow, that was phenomenal playing. Makes me think Dig Dug might be harder than Pac-Man. I noticed that the dragons didn't flame him when they were moving up and down, and separated by only a thin line of dirt, but facing him.

My best ever might be in the range of 60k.

I think the rock drop counter resets if you die.  So, if you get a rock, and then die, you could get another fruit I'd think.  not 100% sure on this.

I think there should be a sub forum just for the competition.
