I'm a sucker for SHMUPs.  An under-rated, seldom-mentioned pair is Truxton & Truxton II.  Although Truxton II appears harder than Truxton at first, I chose II for the following reasons: awesome weapon power-ups, lots of enemies & big bosses, your bombs travel up the screen instead of just surrounding you in a small halo, 2-player option (not for this comp, but I hope to turn people on to this game...), & most importantly, you can hold down the fire-button to save your index finger from abuse.  :)

Good luck!

----------------------------------------------------

ROMSet: truxton2

(Mostly) DEFAULT SETTINGS (Rapid Fire: On, Difficulty: Medium, Bonus Life: 70k & 200k, Lives: 3, Invulnerability: Off)
Let's flip Territory to USA, since (I assume) most of us are in the  US.  As far as I can tell, this switch affects only the boot-up copyright warning & the title screen language.

----------------------------------------------------

- One credit only!

- No continues or adding credits!

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Thursday May 5 (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2011.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition amongst forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

-Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

Best of luck!

After getting past the first bit & ramping up my weapons, I found the game to be relatively easy & I had a rather long game.  Score on my 1st try is 305,210.  I'm always a sucker for the red shotgun/spread-type weapons on SHMUPs.

This game definitely has a Raiden feel to it, though it's all in outer space.

Enjoy!  (I hope...)

I like this game.  The music is quite calm for a game with so many firey skulls....

Wow, I really suck at this type of game :( Can barely get 100K...and I hate games that when you die the first time, you're pretty much screwed because you lose all the power-ups (which is hard enough to play with them, let alone without) I tried a continue or two just to get to the first boss...no way am I beating him :'(

OK, gave it another try, got 125,190. Got to the first boss on my first ship, but I still don't think I'll ever finish him off without dying (and won't after I die either, due to lack of power-ups)

Same here...beat my above score but shy of yours by about 2k (123,690)...that first boss is a bugger...but im sure once passed him the points will likely double...it's just getting passed him :)

OK, time to give you guys a kick in the pants.  As per my norm, I rocked this game on the very 1st try & then, as I learned the game & its nuances, I never once got close to that first score... :dizzy:

Spoot, what's your weapon of choice?  I'm a fan of red, though blue is fun too.

Well, I prefer Red for the damage and "360 degrees shoot" after powerup....but I do better with the Blue in the first level as it's almost always hitting sumthing and Red won't till it's powered up a bit.  2nd round I'll have to say Red to take out the bigger ships that keep coming up from behind in groups.  Haven't really seen a use for Green yet...perhaps in one of the other levels?

Played last night for the first time.  My high was 130k dying slightly after the first boss.  I know I can do better, I'll post the screen when I do.

1st Boss Tips:  Even if you die before the first boss, keep playing to gain experience on the boss.  You'll need it.  I like to hang in the lower right side of the screen during the fight (lower left side is covered with bomb icons).  Eventually you'll take out his spread shot.  Use bombs freely when needed.  After a few encounters with him, it becomes easier.
