Competition #132 : Battle Circuit

ROM name: batcir  (Euro 970319)

Default DIP switch settings:

No Dip Switch Settings.

Last day: Monday, January 20, 2014, midnight Pacific Time.

Description
A four-player simultaneous side-scrolling fighter. Collect coins in each level to purchase new moves.

General Rules:
- One Credit, No Continues.
- Highest score wins.
- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.
- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.
- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.
- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!
- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.
- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).
- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.
- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Happy Gaming!

Hmmm, it's probably best to pick a non-racing game, seeing that not everyone has racing wheels. In the racing forum the guys usually have racing game competitions, which this would be more suitable for.

Playing a racing game on a switch-based joystick and no pedals isn't very fun.

Pretty good game - got past Elvis after a few tries and finishing the levels definitely adds the score up quick with the bonuses -- 415,500

474,800 on my first time ever playing this game.  Had absolutely zero health left when I defeated the Elvis impersonator.  I don't think I had been hit once until that fight.

Scores are going to get insane.  What an odd game...

516,000.  Was obviously still pounding buttons at high score time.

Would love to hear how someone manages to beat that floating brain after Elvis.

I've got a feeling that it's a NeoGeo boss and getting past him just isn't going to happen without another quarter.   :-[

Anyway, the game runs on CoinOps on Xbox 1 but does not on MAMEoX on the 360.  Go figure.   :P

Played twice. First with the blue guy, second with the orange girl.

483,600 on that second game. Beat up by a red girl on the beach.

Weirdness upon weirdness.

Regarding DIP switches, this game is too new for physical switches. You need to go into service mode by pushing the assigned operator service button.

From there, you can navigate to the settings.

Mine is set at a default difficulty of 4 & set for 2 lives. Is everybody else using these same settings?

Played a few more times last night. Got to stage 4. Tried the remaining 3 characters that I hadn't already played. Plant Guy is my fave character to use. Here are 826,300 reasons why.

Never played this one and since I just fixed my Makvision, I will give it a go. :)

514500 on my first run. Pretty fun game actually. I picked the alien/plant-thingie.

PS. Sorry for the terrible picture. My HTC One made my Makvision look purple tinted.

This is a tough one, have notice by default setting, the game doesn't give out any extra life's what so ever which is a bit mean.

Anyway after a few days of play 891400 is my best so far....

Keep getting the mid to high 500K score and dying at the beach -- Finally got past her one time and the score jumped to 890,001 (those end of stage bonuses really help in this game !!)

Seems the alien is the way to go when trying on just the 2 lives since the Vitality up really helps you stay alive at times !

You know what the Elvis boss gives me more hassle than the boss on the beach. It's when you knock him down to his last energy bar and he flips out, really annoying!

I'm seriously considering getting a USB arcade stick, getting hand cramp playing on pad. Not sure whats a good, reasonably price stick to go for though

Yeah Elvis is a bit tough but with the alien grabbing the bots and smashing him with them helps and I usually have several Vitality boosts saved up so can get past him (also the floating saucer that comes by will drop several food items if you hit it as it flys by) but then by the time I'm on the beach the boosts have been used up and those jelly fish keep hitting and shooting me (not to mention the cycles) and then when I get in close to hit her she does that stupid upside down spin !  :hissy: :banghead:

Yeah are those yellow fly saucer dudes completely random as to when they appear or do you have to do something to activate them?

Oh my, where's the dunce hat smiley? Oh, this will do:

 :lame:

Sorry, but my excuses are manifold: I kept seeing JDFan's posts quoting lettuce's high scores & thought JDFan had big scores--that's what I get for skimming, jury duty all last week, killer cold/sore throat kept me in bed the last 3ish days, internet service at home is down so have been light on web browsing.

Oh, & I also played the game & posted that score within the time limit, but I added the pic to my post after the competition deadline (no internet access at home...), but I'll run with the assumption that people are OK with that, for the sake of expediency. Speak up if you doth protest.

Summary:
lettuce 1,082,500
jasonbar: 900,700
JDFan: 890,001 (how did you get that extra 1 point!??!)
pbj: 598,500
dekar24k: 514,500
Generic Eric: 489,800
opt2not: "I'm in." & then no more posts! Psych!

Will post a new competition thread shortly--hopefully by the end of the day. Thanks for your patience. It wont' be another Capcom punchy game.

Not sure where the 1 point came from.
