Warning! Adult Game!
Competition #120: LadyKiller

I was torn on whether or not we should play this, but I decided - what the heck. It's a shame this is an adult game, it has fun and quality game play.

Lady Killer © 1993 Mitchell Corp.

Lady killer is an adult, puzzle game featuring eight sexy women. The objective of the game is to dive and leap through the surface of the play area to reveal the image of the girl underneath.

At the start of each level the player gets to select which girl he wants to reveal. Her image is then shown and is then covered by the game board. Then the level begins. The player must move to avoid the enemies while attempting to flip the tiles on the board by diving and surfacing through them. Flipped tiles often reveal power-ups to help the player. The player is killed any time he touches or is shot by an enemy, but the player can kill enemies by flipping a tile that the enemy is standing on. Enemies will re-spawn until the level is completed. The level is completed once all of the tiles have been removed.

Each girl features five states of undress and four stages. During gameplay, the girl's silhouette remains visible through the surface of the game play area and while her state of dress changes between stages, her pose and silhouette will remain the same. Each girl also has a special stage featuring a mini-game of a sliding tile game or a number selecting game. After completing the final stage for each girl, the player is shown an erotic scene for that girl and the player must wiggle the joystick left and right to advance the scene.

The game is over when the player has lost all of his lives. Upon continuing the player restarts the level he is currently on.

Players : 2
Control : 8-way joystick
Buttons : 2

Last day is Monday, July 29 (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2013

General Rules:
- One Credit, No Continues.
- Highest score wins.
- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.
- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.
- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.
- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!
- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.
- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

My wife loves this game! The adult portion of it is really lame but the gameplay itself is pretty good.

I might have to dive into this one! (ugh)  I stumbled onto this game a while ago and unexpectedly really enjoyed it!  Pretty cool game mechanic: anybody know if it's an adult ripoff of a 'normal' puzzle game a la every adult game ever?

Leapinlew didn't post dip switch settings, and there is one that says nudity - partial or full. I don't know if partial means boobs or just bikinis, because game won't start. I get white screen and that's all. What ver of mame you guys playing it on?

Sent a PM earlier, but it must have been lost in the bit bucket.

#120: Green Beret: Winner: LeapinLew, Second: popsicle
Actually #119.   ;D

Also you forgot to include romset and defaults like below.

Quote
Romset: gberet
Default Settings:
Lives: 3
Bonus Life 50K, 100K, Every 100K
Difficulty: Normal

I know the romset is kind of obvious for this title, but since most guys copy/paste from the previous comp, it might not be a bad idea to include it for later comps.

I get white screen and that's all. What ver of mame you guys playing it on?

Same here on MAMEUIFX 0.146.

ROM audit says all good -- even D/L'd another copy from a different source.

Tried changing dip switches, Reset (F3), and even service mode as mentioned in MAMEinfo.dat -- nothing changes.  :dunno
Quote
SERVICE MODE:
- To enter service mode in Lady Killer, toggle the dipswitch and reset keeping start 2 pressed.

EDIT: The odd thing is that it works fine on MAMEUIFX 0.141 on my laptop.  Just moved the ROM from the archive folder into the roms folder and it fired right up.

Pretty sure you can change theme to "curve", according to here and here.

try and remember where the power ups are the arrow things that fill in a whole row
once you have them kinda memorized you can wipe out a frame pretty quickly

also try not to pick up 2 of the same type save the doubles for the next dive
and the ones that fill in a horizontal and vertical row I use them in the corners.
so that when I use the next power up it will do a whole row instead of only half (if I previously used a horizontal and vertical one in the wrong place)
hope that makes sense

C'mon with a score over 100K I surely figured that out. I'm asking more about whether you've got some kind of system as to the board progress (clearly some girls are easier than others ;)  ) or do you focus more on clearing the board asap or do you chase after bad guys and flip the boards under them for extra points. How about mini games, do they score extra? etc

EDIT: you posted some extra info while I was typing, that's the kind of info I'm more looking for

and yeah some girls are easier than others
I clear the board asap seems whenever I try and work on bad guys I do horrible
i have never noticed the mini games scoring anything

I seemed to be on a roll that particular game i'm having trouble getting up that high again

That is it for me... my charms worked on only 2 ladies (finally!) french chick ripped me a new one immediately! How many "ladies" did you manage to undress to get such high score!?

EDIT: Just a quick dip switch check since leapin didn't post it, and I struggled so badly with this game.

lives - 3
difficulty - normal

right?

yup that's what I have for dips.
like I said I think I got lucky cause I cant get near it now.
but when I got that score I think I beat the third girl and died right away on the 4th.

anyway if it's my pick the next game is QIX
I played it a little bit in the arcades growing up but was never any good at it
I will set up a thread later tonight
