Pinball Cab - MultiBall Madness [Upd 14 March. - Finished]
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:33:52 am »
Last year i sold my Marvel VS Capcom, so there is a empty spot in our house what needs filling.

So i am gonna do another balcony build

This time i want to try a a Virtual pinball cabinet. Its going to be medium sized with a 32 inch play field.
I want it to be fairly done around Christmas (hopefully sooner)

At the moment i am learning a lot from the hyperpin forum about the building the cabinet , lights and electronic part
I have been working on the artwork for a week now and the initial design is ready, just like my 2 arcade cabinets its going to be bright fun and flashy  ;D

Now ill get back to cleaning my balcony for this and start gathering my tools

Ahhh, a master returns. Yep I'll subscribe to this one.  ;)

Assuming you are going to go down the Zeb's power board/LEDWiz route for contactors and LED drivers?

Because this is just "a"  32 inch sized cab, it wont have a dozens of  high power rgb leds or shakers or replay knockers.
No space and i am not such a enthusiast.

I was thinking along this guide and use 12 volt siemens contactors for some force feed back

Loving your work btw Maximus, very wel planned and executed.

I wont let you guys down in the way of, it will be the same old technique and resources  ;D

I don't have access to laser cutting, cnc milling. Just my balcony and a router is all i need

Thanks Martijn

Looks like a cool 12V setup, certainly sounds like you've been doing your research already, I think the only thing you have to watch out for is proper isolation of the LEDWiz from any potential flashback from the contactors, but it looks like the relays should keep you safe from harm.

As for the router on the balcony, I agree that's all you really need, but it must suck to be your neighbor lol.

They are used to emulate solenoids.

As Sindono puts it here,
Quote
they will give a nice sounding and feeling thud to the machine when you push the flippers, or when the ball hits the slingslots or bumpers in the software. Should add a lot of force feedback, making it that more realistic.

They are used to emulate solenoids.

Ok - so supernooby questions here.

a) Are we looking for an item to provide an audible "click" and a physical "feeling" when we hit the flippers and contact the bumpers, etc?

b) Why would one choose a contactor over a solenoid? Are solenoids simply passe, or are they just not used any more for one reason or another?

c) Would it be smarter (or give better quality) to have a single contactor for each item? So, like, one on the left side of the cab, one on the right side of the cab, and one heavier one mid-field for bumpers, etc?

Again, forgive my noobishness. And thank you.

Solenoids are generally not used because Actual Pinball Solenoids require 48 or more volts on average. We use 12V Contactors, because they are easy and fairly cheap to get, replicate the sound and feel very nice.. And do not require massive amounts of power.

Typical VPin rigs use 8 contactors. One each for the the flippers, one for the bumpers on one side, etc etc. Also you can use a windshield washer motor to simulate the 'whirring' of rotating toys, a shaker motor and of course a knocker.

Here's my rig with the contactors in place along with the wiper motor and the shaker

WowMaximus!! Nice setup!
Does the angled wood help witht he sound? In my build they are just mounted to the sides of the cabinet, in their general location.

No the angled wood is part of the side projection system...

Thanks for the detailed parts list.  I like the 9" DMD screen.  Do you plan to take the screens out of the cases and countersink them in the sides.  Also, what screen will you be using in the backbox?

That screen is as naked as it can get, just the bare 9 inch lcd with a pcboard with a vga connection.
i have a 7 inch 4:3 here, and the quality is great. so i am confident this 9 inch will serve its purpose

Yeah, I see the DMD screen.  I was talking about the playfield screen.  Lots of people leave the case on and the playfield has a bit of a border around it.  I tried to get mine down to zero.  Also I highly recommend a custom lockdown bar from VirtuaPin.

Yes, i love the slide in lcd method, takes away the need for a bezel right?, maximum playfield
The custom lockdown bar will be ordered once i have figured out the cabinet size , how did you mount it on the cab? I dont see a need for a Lockdown Bar Lever Guide Assembly .

Today i received the backglas monitor, its a Infotronic L2130s industrial 21.3" 4:3 1600 x 1200 massive screen.

i got it next to nothing from online marketplace (Craig list) with a flaw that the backlight was broken but the screen itself was perfectly ok
You can buy CCFL to led kits to replace the old bulb, i thought because the screen was so cheap i could do this to get a proper working 21.3"

Its really heavy

Weighing a massive 17KG, its as heavy as the old 21 inch CRT, mainly because its entire housing is made of steel, and the foot is as heavy as the whole screen part

Stripped it and found the problem, just some loose filters i think?

I soldered them back on and redid the ones that didn't came loose yet as well.

And its working again  :applaud:

No need for that repair kit

The playfield and backglass monitor have a good ratio in my eye. visible playfield is 40cm wide, and the visible backglass is 43 wide.
Just a little bigger (because bigger is better )

I wont decase the playfield, the frame is holding everything together, and its really thin already. I would probably break it..

Now that i got the screens i can start drawing the cutout plan

Way to go with the screen repair!  If you check my build thread, I've updated the first post (again) with a link to those sketchup plans you wanted.  Hope they help.

Pincabs have a much wider range in cost than traditional arcades.  If you go the full-sized route you're looking at a 42" screen, 27-32" backglass screen and most likely a third screen or $300 authentic DMD.  I've spent about $1800 on my mini, but I went all out (for a mini) whereas most minis are only two screens, no custom lockdown bar, and no led/force feedback.  Check out vpforums.org.  They have a cabinet forum there.

Hey
Yes I have been lurking on the forums..... the one thing I hate is the admin of the forums sells virtual pins and he always is trying to sell them.  I would buy one but I thought for 4K I could make one or get someone else to build me one for less!

It also depends on where you live in the world.  It will cost you more to build if you live in Australia vs. the USA.  If you want to make one, and live in the USA, wait until the after-Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales to buy your TV's/Monitors.

I have parted a 47" playfield 32" backglass and real DMD for about 2k +/- 300.  This does not include a custom lockdown bar or solonoids/contacters (this will add another ~ 300-500), and also does not include custom LED work (another ~ 200).

So, in the USA, for a huge 47" playfield and all the bells and whistles will set you back about 3K.

Cheers!

Refurb TVs are also a good alternative that help keep cost down and of coura course gently used LED tvs will last plenty long enough too.

For contactors you don't have to buy Siemens they have gone up a lot in price, maybe due to this hobby.

Vpins are pricey though in comparison to arcade cabs.

I'm using heavy-duty Velcro.  It wasn't what I wanted to use, but ended up being the best option.

Yes I got the custom bar without underparts.  I think they would have got in the way on a mini cab.

15" = 38.1 cm

Thanks, but i meant dept, height, width  :)

Meanwhile i drew up my design in sketchup , first i looked up some plans of others, and combined with what i had on paper and then created a 3d design.
That way i got a better view on my idea and made some changes here and there. I think its well proportioned , nothing final yet because while i construct it in my head and looking at the 3d render i bumb into little things sometimes.

Its about 90cm standing height, 100cm deep and 45cm wide

It's 38.1(width) x 6.35(depth) 2.54cm(height)

And are those the legs from my model?  Those were amazingly difficult to make, being a self-taught sketchup virgin.

Hey
Kool.. thanks for the plans!... say if you take out bump and nudge.. and use buttons... how much would that reduce cost?  Are you not concerned about bumping and shifting those expensive panels around? I would be worried they could get damaged?

I have found a couple (3) companies in USA that sell pre made ones, but they go for like 4k!!! Is there anyone in Canada??
thanks

I have utterly slammed my cabinet hard enough to move it across the floor a few times, during intense games. The panels survive just fine. If you secure them properly, they do nto really move. The whole cabinet does, but I suspect they see more abuse when the Shaker motor kicks in than when I am nudging the cabinet.

Looking good, and why not. Been ordering so much stuff its crazy, money flows like water for this project. So backing this

Gotta find a few more parts and i think i can get a lockdown bar made locally , that would be the first that i don't have to get something from the USA with insane prices.

I haven't decided yet about glass or lexan, i have 4mm of space for something.

At the moment i am trying to puzzeling decorate the interior with all the electronics, sub woofer and cooling.

A (small) pincab is more difficult then a standard upright :P

Today i did some electronics..

i picked up a free pc, seems to be a pentium 4.

i only kept what i could need

- dvd drive (for windows install
- floppy disc drive (could be handy if i go windows xp lite route)
- case (using this for the pc components
- on off switch wires (easy wiring to outside on off switch)
- cpu and motherboard cooling fan and blocks

Cutting up the case and painting it..

here is the pc part done mostly

Mounted the ssd on the case itself

That power supply rocks, its modulair build and has a 12v line of 70A!
Goldclass 96% efficiency. Should be enough to power everything.

Then i started on the ledwiz panel.

That cooling block from the mainboard looks nice to cool those chips on the ledwiz

Before

After

Then starting the primairy wiring..

Done for today

I used way to thick wire (AWG18), stripping/soldering/heatshrinking that was a time consuming

Art maybe , but i made a mistake, the fuses are bigger then the holder  :banghead:
When i insert them, they short each other out, i need to make space between them..

Or just solder the fuses on top of the holder, but then there is no point for the easy-clip-on-clip-off-fuse-holder

Started on the coinbox panel

Fitting perfect

I test fitted the bottom box to see if my measurements where right

When i was using my router, it heard a rattle then the thing died on me.

I took it apart and found 2 lose metal clips , which they have eaten away a bit of metal from the middle

Quite a big bite..

These 2 parts where the problem. i don't know where they are from..

I cleaned the whole router and put it back together without those 2 metal clips, and i seems to work just fine.

Any thoughts on this? Or should i get a new one..  :dunno

And i am happy that my circle cutting jig came in, its a Jasper 200J, not for sale in Europe

Gonna try this thing out when i made up my mind with this router

So i started rebuilding a woofer box

Reinforced the inside with glue and metal brackets

2 passive + 1 active woofer and no exhaust, gonna let it dry before i try

Hey thanks, that helps allot , they seem to be holding the legs from going out of their sockets. Thankfully nothing important.
I was about to guess that!

Black & Decker doesn't seem to hold up anymore...

Nice build btw! Please document how you connect those subs!

Nice build btw! Please document how you connect those subs!

It didn't let me down yet (Still happily married with it,  my first and only router ), i even think it was me slamming the springs back and forth a few projects back.

The woofer is a Creative Slam system (Symmetrically Loaded Acoustic Module) Bose uses this same technology.
It gives a heavy but tight bass in a small woofer case.

I am happy with its quality and highly recommend this 2.1 system (creative gigaworks t3) for anyone who needs a small but powerful and great quality audio.

My laminate arrived  :applaud: The store where i bought this stopped selling it and i had a hard time to find this stuff in my country.
I really hate painting and am never satisfied with its result, and even with the smallest mistake you can bumb the paint off, this material is king quality, strong and gives a durable layer to any project.

It's a black matte color

And did some more hole cutting for fans and speakers

Little progress on the back panel for Power,Main switch,Boot button,USB,LAN and a air vent

And i made some progress on the bottom box, its glued and screwed together, i had to redo-router the lcd slot, it needed to be a little higher, ill fix the gap with some simple pine to hold the lcd in place

Well, this is certainly interesting. I would be very interested in more information on this!

Just finished up my slot for the rgb ledstrip  :applaud:

Jealous at you cnc enabled people, but don't give up builders, with a steady hand we can accomplish similar result.

I was looking dread against this part, i only had one shot to get it right

I placed a panel on top to guide my router and went freehand to cut out the slot

Hooray  :applaud:

I am on the highway to hell  8)

Ill probably paint the inside black and then add the strip, it fits like a charm

And i finished up a back panel of the bottom

Made the grill out of a piece of aluminum and painted it

Ready for paint

May I ask where you've bought laminate? You live in the Netherlands, right? (ik kan niks vinden in Nederland).

Ok, here is a mistake i made, but i dealt with it.

Started working on the flasher panel, it will have 5 rgb high power leds. The ledwiz has a 500mA limit so they will be locked at a save 450mA with some resistors and fuses to protect the wiz.

Draw out the hole markers

Drilled 5 holes with t bit

But as you can see the last hole is ruined, because i didn't lock the bar hard enough, it warped and the bit went crazy. Also very dangerous..

I could remake the panel , but i thought to solve this differently.

I cut out a piece of laminate.

I placed the panel on top and cut out a correct hole

All smooth

Then glued the correct hole over the bad one

All good  :applaud:

goodbye bad hole

All your cabinets look very professional, but I wasn't talking about quality...  I'm teaching myself as I go along.  This was the first time I ever used a router, so I'm very happy with my build, especially the DMD/speaker grill.

I meant that your progress is making me look bad.  :applaud: I started mine March 2012, and I probably won't be finished until March 2014.

it looks like your power switch is on the back.  typically on pinball machines it's recessed on the bottom near the front.  The back is hard to get to.  something to consider.

Looks awesome and looks even more awesome considering the tough workshop conditions.  What do you do when it snows?

yes, you should be happy and proud with your build, its looking great. If you seen my builds you can see i always make them in 3-4 months.

Powers witch on the back is no problem, i like the connectors and buttons in the back, its not a full size pinball cab and standing on its on, getting back there is the same as my arcade cabs, no problems.
Snow is a problem, ill probably finish woodworking end of Oct. Beating the cold

Small update

I mounted the flasher panel with glue and screws

And started laminating the top and visible inside part of the cab. I just cut out a straight piece of laminate and with the correct angle, then glue it to the side and trim it

Checking the weather its getting colder in a week, so fighting the clock here :P

I ordered more then a month ago that new plunger unit, sadly its still not shipped, site stated 2-3 weeks till shipping, but he got behind in work or something..
Because i wanted to finish the bottom unit this week , now ill just drill the plunger holes later..  :-\  (Don't like drilling and vacuuming the cab again with hardware installed)

This project looks amazing! Very detail oriented.

Where did you get the aluminum grill? That might b a good option to lighten up the weight of a cab.

I got my perforated aluminum from a local DIY shop (Praxis)

Little update, i finished laminating the front and sides, made flipper holes, finished the back latch and started on the backbox.

I removed the II from the titel, it was in the way on some parts of the artwork

Added a extra bar for strength

Glued 2 pieces of mdf on the sides of the speaker grill, i forgot the hole wasn't big enough for the sub to fit in it, so i elevated it a little.

Placed the woofer on top, and screwed it fastened on the pieces of mdf below

Then added 2 extra metal brackets to add extra strength to the sub and the entire cab

Then started on the backbox

And thats how she is standing now..

Also i finished up on the artwork and getting it ready for printing.

Good progress today.  I'm most excited to see your DMD/speaker grill.  I was shocked at how well my second one turned out.  It was EXACTLY the right size.  Of course I drafted it up in sketchup, but it's still hard for me to trust software.

Some more progress on the cabinet. I finished the bottom mostly, still waiting for the plunger kit. And almost done with the backbox. I have also installed hinges for the backbox, i was uncertain i would install them, the pinball cabinet is not that big and the top could be easily removed. But i went for it and cut the hinges up and mounted them , had some trouble with installing them, i forgot how wide the screw in part was, so i removed 1.5cm from the sides.

Cut them up and drilled new holes

Ready

All my panels have non visible hinges

Still need to cut the DMD hole and laminate the piece, then apply artwork and t-molding and then hardware + wiring.

Oh did i mention i still don't have my plunger (6 weeks now, still not shipped!)  :banghead:

Martijn, better close of the areas around the fans, it will make them more efficient, otherwise they'll be moving air around the edges (ie. there's a shortcut between outlet and inlet).

Hey people, thanks for the kind words. Keeps people motivated you know  :P

Martijn, better close of the areas around the fans, it will make them more efficient, otherwise they'll be moving air around the edges (ie. there's a shortcut between outlet and inlet).

Didn't think that over, i just went for a big gap for heavy breathing room. I can always close it up with plexi if needed.

Yep its raining allot today,so i covered my balcony partly with a plastic sheet. Just a few things and bringing it back inside.
Everyday when i finish a part i clean up the whole balcony and vacuum the house, my wife loves it lol , i just don't want a messy working space.

Cleanliness is next to godliness

Oh might as well post some progress i did.

Installed the ledstrip, i didn't trust that 3m adhesive that came along with it so i hotglue every 5 cm or so

Wired them up (be sure to wire 12v to 12v, cutting the strip can easily make you mount a part upside down)

and made a hole where the cables go to the top

Sexy  8)

This ledstrip has 60 leds per 100cm and is the new 5050 model, really bright !

Finished cutting the dmd holes and laminated it

yep, only thing for you size cab would be the authentic look me thinks. when i look at your backbox, i think the wings on the hinges are also to wide to fit them flush.

Good luck ! i would suggest going the pindmd route with a real plasma dmd..

He Njay, remember me asking questions on tweakers, that was the first step to my current cab form :)
About the vishay dmd, i thought about it, money was not the problem, more the size of the dmd, the screen size would look out of place in my opinion.

I think you would be suprised about how it would look, i only use a 24 inch playfield monitor and 19 inch for the backbox :)

i still would consider it lol :)

anyways good luck with your build looks awesome, no build topic on tweakers?

I agree.  I think the real DMDs look great, but I prefer keeping the proportions as close as possible.  Also, I really like changing the DMD colors to match each table instead of regular red/orange.

Can you clarify what size opening you created for the DMD?    A 9 inch diagonal screen seems to small?

Thanks,

This is a official size plan, hole for dmd and speaker

about 33 x 9 cm

i resized that hole to match the maximum width of my lcd (9" lcd)  (19,5cm x 5,4 cm)

Little update, i am still waiting for my plunger to get shipped , they promised this week. lets hope so. And i printed the artwork somewhere in my country, but i was unhappy with its result. Its still pending if i can get a refund or something else. They are very slow.. So i decided to print it at Gameongrafix, and its already shipped

I started working on the led flashers, i have 5 RGB leds in a row , they can get very hot and need a heatsink, so i cut up a cpu heatsink/

Cpu heatsink ready to get a new life

Cleaned it and drawn out the cut out plans

Chopping it up with my metal cutter, this material gets really hot !

Then drilling holes for screws to hold the leds

All done, backside of the leds have some thermal grease

Wired them up to a ATX connector

And mounted them

You need to have them connected to a connector because the cables need to be out of the way if you want to slide in the lcd panel

And i wired up the ledwiz some more, and added cable management sleeves

Yep, sorry for the lack of updates. Cant do much until my parts arrive. Waiting for the Artwork (2nd revision), Glass and Plunger.

After almost 10 weeks the plunger has been shipped, he had many production problems, waiting for parts etc. But its on his way

21 of November will be my sons birthday, i hoped to had at least one table running. I wont rush things so that plan is canceled.

As for the rest, i got most wiring done, but i only post progress when i complete a part.

Not to disappoint anyone, here is a pic of all 3 screens running from the system. Main playfield and Backglass from the pci-e Videocard and the lcd for the DMD from the onboard graphics.

Can you turn your playfield screen 180 degrees?  You'll want the top to be on the right side.  It'll make your software setup easier.

Martijn,
I am considering a very similar build as I have space constraints in the room I want to put my pinball in.  Do you have an approximate cost for all the components pulled together?

Thanks all, still far from being completed, it is allot more work then i thought, especially because its a pinball cabinet and not a standard upright.

the software part is giving me headache !  :banghead:

Martijn,
I am considering a very similar build as I have space constraints in the room I want to put my pinball in.  Do you have an approximate cost for all the components pulled together?

I think i have about 2000-2500 euro in there  :dizzy:

It can be very budget if you already have a computer, and will paint the cab instead of artwork and install no flashing/vibrating/clicking toys.
If you can find a used pinball cabinet for a cheap price you already have most original parts to make it look authentic.

Because i wanted a smaller one i needed special sizes for everything. And i went for optiwhite hardened glass (both playfield+backglass box), this glass is so strong you can stand on it, and optiwhite versions don't have a green glass glow, its extra clear.

Here is a closeup picture of one side of the artwork. both sides are different, all the pinball balls have different logos on both sides.

Here a small log about the dmd creating part.

Dmd panel cut to size

I printed out a drilling template and glued it onto the final sized dmd mdf panel

Used the cirlce cutting jig to cut out a circle, not all the way through. because i wont want it to warp, i route out the rest with a copy bit.

Place holders onto the template

Route out the rest

Apply laminate

All done

Then apply the artwork, so you can route out the sticker inside, you can NEVER get such a smooth shave of the sticker with a knife

ultra smooth

Then route of the back for the lcd and speaker, leave 2-3mm of mdf dept left over

Paint the inside edge with a marker, clean up the artwork if it has some markings with some alcohol.

Pressing speaker grill and glued it in place

Done

Stupid question maybe, but isn't 0.33 Ohms, as stated in the opening post, for the LED's a little low?

Great work, I've been inspired by these v-pinball builds and yours is excellent work and greatly documented.  Since I'm new to this, what are the force feedback contactors and do you need 6 of these?  Those things are pricey!

Check my thread if you're feeling seriously inspired.  This was based on my build, and I linked the google sketchup build plans in the first post of my thread.  The force feedback contactors are expensive, and you probably won't find them cheap anywhere.

@Martijn - How are you liking the force feedback?  After playing my unfinished cab over the last year, I've decided to leave them out.  It seems like a lot of clutter in such a small space, and I was thinking they might be too much bang for an under-sized cab.  Also... great looking art, but what's up with you and fighter themes?

You are right thank you, i made a mistake there, the blue and green need 27 Ohms and red needs 33 Ohms, changing them this week

Force Feedback
- contactor 9A 0VAC 12VDC 3RT1016-1BA42

These contactors represent the bumpers, slingshots and flipper relay sound and feedback, you can go without, but it gives more realism.
Some people even wire up 8-9 contactors, i think you are good with 6, the contactors in the back all sound and feel the same to me.
I am even going to rewire the one in the middle-back to the side(right), on that piece of mdf it just sounds dull.
You can get different versions, in the usa 24v versions are more common, but you need a 24v power supply then.
You can check ebay, many sets are offered there. Also many topics on the pinball forums about what contactors are best in sound/speed/feedback.

The contactos are a nice addition, but you can go without, or just add 2 for the flippers and 2 on the sides for all the action,  they almost sound  the same.
Btw, when you turn up the volume really loud + that sub vibrating the cab you cant really hear them anymore, but still you notice them, somewhere in all that noise you hear the clicks and feel them. Expensive but worth it..
About the artwork, i am just a Capcom and fighter fan, especially sexy female characters ;)

Amazing work, as always! Can you give me some details on how you created your LED lighting? Where did you get the LEDs and the great looking caps? I've been searching everywhere for some solution, but can't seem to find something I like that comes even close to yours.

Thanks, look here for those domes

Thanks Talkgeek, outside still needs some minor things and that lockdown bar. And now that the basic software is running i can get to tweak all my settings and do a little rewiring.

I learned that the ledwiz ini config tool that you can find online can create the ledwiz.ini but it seems they have preconfigured the RGB slots, i wired them up in BGR  :banghead:
Or i need to find out how to change that or rewire B + R 5 times (6 times actually for the ledstrip)

Then where is Felicia?

Are you going with HyperPin or PinballX?  HyperPin has a little better look to it, but I'm having much better performance with PinballX.  HyperPin always freezes for about 5-10 seconds after exiting a table, whereas PinballX runs like butter.

Thanks, i am still busy with the software part. Can you believe it takes 30-60 minutes per table to get it running decently?
And even after that you can still tweak the table. I find this especially with the Future Pinball tables.

I got the following running
Os : Windows XP
Frontend : PinballX
Visual pinball + dB2S Server + Direct framework input + Ledwiz support
Future pinball + BAM + FutureDMD + Ledwiz support

I havent even looked into Pinball FX or others..

Martijn,

Awesome man ! congrats

My cab pales in comparison to yours lol :D

Hopefully later this year farsight will include cabinet support in the pinball arcade so we can choose between VP and TPA :)

Good luck with the wiring , the ledwiz tool is the way to go  :afro:

Great job man.  Great build quality and attention to detail.  I'm not a huge fan of Capcom on stuff but it looks well done on your cab.

Little more update :

- Changed from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit, xp was giving me so many problems. Windows 7 is really the way to go.

- Removed the Ebay 4 port Relay switch for the underside cab + stroboscope with ebay http://www.ebay.nl/itm/281191529940 mini rgb amp.
The relay made so much noise, , clicking and buzzing all the time. This item made it silent, highly recommended

- Started on Lockdownbar Version 0.3, it fits nice but needs more smooth corners, i am thinking of removing almost 1cm from the corner where you hand palm rests

When its finished ill send it to the painter for same style powder coating as the side-rails

 thanks, but this lockdownbar i didnt make. A dads friend works in a metal factory, he made the shape.
I sanded it down and then i went to a poadercoating shop of a acquaintance of mine.

Result  :applaud:  :applaud:

(work in progress pic of the bar)

Because of the structure, you will not see imperfections that easy, also i like how it feels when holding the machine. Plain black was to cold for me.

I mounted it with 3 screws, it fits so tight around the cabinet i almost dont need screws to hold it in place.

Well thats the end of this ride, the cabinet is 100% done hardware wise. Just more table configuring and fine tuning other software things.

Ill make a video soon

Beautiful.  The only thing I would change if I had the skill to do all this would be to make the T-molding horizontal pieces black to tie in better with the black surround and lockdown bar.  But that is just for me visually.  This thing is a work of art.

I'm curious, do you just get tired of these things and just decide to sell them? Or do you get offers and realize you can make some money off of them? Just wondering, because you seem to sell off your projects on a regular basis (again, no judgment, just curious).

It's a lot of money to have tied up in one machine Yotsuya. I can't speak for everyone who has one. Possibly it's a matter of financial need for some people. They sink a bunch of money in something and they realize maybe they were in over there head financially. Another point is they do seem to bring a lot on the used market $5000 range. Let me ask you Yotsuya, do you sell your machines after you finish them? My guess is you keep them, but if the money is right you would sell about any of them.
As far as being bored with them I don't play my pin that much, but I wouldn't sell it unless somebody offed me crazy money.

You forgot the shrug and laugh! I was just funnin' with Jaharr!

To answer Jay's questions to me, I've given away one of my builds to my daughter as an engagement present (love that cab), but not, I have never sold anything that I built for myself. I put that time and effort into it to make it the way I want it, so why would I?

I've BUILT three cabs for other people, but those were to their specifications. I still took great pride in the work, but that stuff was their call.

They do get somewhat boring on occasion I agree. But so do arcade games. Mine took a while took get all the bugs out of the software but it doesn't crash. They are like anything else if you change stuff all the time they havee a tendency to crash. I enjoy pinball fx2 a lot. It's fun. I think a lot of the VP tables are too damn hard or I have them on the wrong settings.  :dunno. They are not as good as real pinball machine but you can play a bunch of different tables on there.I wouldn't build another one though that's for sure.
