- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.
- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.
- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.
- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!
- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.
- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).
- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.
- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Good luck!

This should be an easy game to get into. I'm expecting high scores (every time I tried I only did better. All my scores are from today and each time I've improved on the previous one)

Don't have this on my cab. Played parent Kicker twice. Got 74k or so.

I don't recall ever seeing it in arcades in America, & I have a reeeeeally good memory for old games, & I have generally seen most games out there.

Played it probably just 1-2x when going through aaaallll my ROMs to set up my MAME cab a few years ago.

I don't recall ever being motivated to go back & play it more!   ;D

oopsie. Have I just committed another Knuckle Joe!? I was certain this game had to be popular. It was almost everywhere in my country! Oh, well y'all will have to struggle for another 10 days or so... Next time I'm gonna do Bosconian... that... was... popular in states, right!?  ???

It's all good!

I actually have trouble remembering Bosconian in the arcades, too. My single data point of popularity is that it was rare...

I only recall seeing Bosconian at the local Chuck E. Cheese. It was a clunky game, even for '81. Goes to show Namco did have B or C grade games during that time.

Yeah, this game is kinda gay. Too easy to jump levels when you don't want to, and that's using a 4-way.

Hey, stop trying to disguise your lack of reflexes by dumping on my choice! My score speaks for itself! And I hardly played this game when I was a kid. Each of the levels have their own little spots that are better to handle bad guys, find them!
In the meantime I've improved just a tiny bit over my last score

Oh, I thought about it, and figured my movements were a little sloppy. But the point is, they didn't design the control options well. It might seem neat to have a jump option via simply pushing UP, but few if any later games did this. You had to press UP and JUMP. Also, the jump feature sucks, because it's so measly a jump. This game is an almost typical mid-80s game: somewhat cheesy game-play; a bit like a console game.

Ok, "gramps". I know arthritis is acting up, gotta hide behind "awkward" control scheme, etc.
In the meantime, here is a proof that some of us with good reflexes, can play just about any game
Basically I'm declaring myself a winner, no way anyone can touch this score (regardless if anyone is trying to or not)  ;)
(btw, side note, I honestly didn't pick this game, because I knew I can win it. As I mentioned before, I played it maybe a couple of times prior. It's not my fault I'm so awesome!)

Finally something worth posting, 144,200

I really didn't care for this game at first but it's growing on me.   Looking at Mimic's score versus the level I must be leaving some points on the board.   I can say I've never seen one of these before.

ehh, of all people I'm giving tips on how to play this game to is kixfan! Who has the biggest chance to take my 1st place spot. But since you're giving it an honest try. One thing I noticed when I was watching this game over shoulders of kids playing it was that they mostly used  jump/kick technique, so basically ALL my hits are jump/kick, I don't pick up power ups from "green pants" and as you may noticed jump/kick scores 500 vs normal kick 200.
I can't play over the weekend at all, so here is your chance. Not only to pick a new game, but also be in #1 spot!
Good luck!

Hmmm...  doing some quick math, approx 50,000 difference over 5 rounds, 10k difference per round, 300 point difference per enemy works out to about 33 enemies, makes sense!    Now for the good news for you, I spent the last week or so doing regular kicks cause the flying kick seemed too difficult!   So I guess I'll have to do this the hard way.  ;D  Since your giving out advice, do the levels after 10 get even hard?

As you may have noticed there is a bird after 5th one, but nothing changes after 10th. Although I think thugs might be faster and more aggressive. Basically what happened I managed to survive with all guys till the 5th level and then I started loosing them at about guy per level, that's why I got to 11th.

Let me address some other issue I've missed though...

I only recall seeing Bosconian at the local Chuck E. Cheese. It was a clunky game, even for '81. Goes to show Namco did have B or C grade games during that time.

I'm entering some off topic angry territory, but I still don't get the love affair with Galaga, and there is NO WAY that Bosconian is B or C grade. It's on par if not BETTER than that borefest that is Galaga!

It's not my fault I'm so awesome!

You forgot to mention how humble you are, too.   ;D

Duh!
I'm not even gonna mention all the grandmas and blind man I help to cross the street, or the countless mine fields I've disarmed! all the little kittens and even little snails I've rescued! I'm not only humble, but also smart, beautiful, awesome, cool... popular... umm awesome, have I mentioned that?

Uh oh. You're one of those kids. Hehn hehn hehn hehn. I just now went and played it...I was surprised I still had it.....and it's not that bad. It's a B game. (I swear the one I played was 4-way movement!....I dunno....)  It and Galaga are different kinds of games. Galaga is a little more elegant, is a mature shooter, and is arguably a Classic game. I don't play it often, though.

Alright, I'm done.   Got a little closer but that is a heck of a score from Mimic.   Even with the hint about jump kicking I still couldn't improve much.

What can I say. I had that one perfect game! Where even mistakes seemed like they were in my favor (mostly unintentional jumps upwards or sometimes to side.)

I think it's safe to assume there will be no other submissions, therefore final tally is as follow:

mimic - 337,300
kixfan - 213,300
popsicle - 106,900
jasonbar - mumbled something about ~74K

kix, you picking the next game!
