- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

Well, I hope this is better than my last pick.    I have never seen this in the wild.   I kind of just stumbled upon this game.   I have only played this once or twice.   The KLOV article indicates that the monitor has a tendency to catch fire!

By the way, my default was for 5 lives.   If anyone thinks we should reduce to 3 just let me know.

5 Lives is fine.  You'll need them.

I'd humbly suggest we use either spacfurya or spacefuryb as the primary set because the parent set (spacfury) has an issue with the alien speech which, to purists, can be annoying :)

I played this game in a competition last year and found it ridiculously hard.  Oh, and I hope your aim is good, because your shots have to be absolutely dead-nuts to kill the enemies.

First score post: 28,810

The one level is quite the marathon and I've never finished it completely.  Just have to kill as much as you can before your ships disappear :)   Always end up as "Stimulating" opponent.

Nice score Tafoid!   I played last night for awhile and I could only get to about 22k.

here is my new score of 34,190.   On previous runs I got to round 4 or 5 but got annihilated quickly.   On this attempt I was on round 3.   I did not destroy the ships fast enough to exit the round and I just kept on racking up points.  You can't just sit and hope to shoot all enemy ships.  I had to constantly keep moving.

So, is this not a good game or is everyone busy doing holiday stuff?    Just wondering?

My rig is in the basement near the laundry (wife won't let me put it in dining room like I suggested!).   Anyway, I left this game on and she was in the basement and it started talking.   Scared the cr@p out of her!

I've been busy. But I see there's two days left so I might give it a whirl (",)

I couldn't break 22k.  Something about the shape of the ship is throwing me off.  I keep thinking it thrusts from the other side.

My version has no sound.  The dude talks but no sound other than that.  Am I missing some samples?

AFAIK it does use samples.

I used to love playing this game on my Coleco when I was a kid.  My brother and I would take turns trying to hit the alien in the eye with a suction cup dart gun from across the room.  But the arcade version is a lot harder than I recall on Coleco.  Then again, I was probably only playing skill level one.

Just download all the samples from the mame site ( I assume they still have them there).

I can't crack 28,000. My entire strategy is to use the left (blue) powerup on the third round, since that's the hardest round (out of the first three rounds anyway!) and that powerup seems to be the most conducive to my way of thinking/shooting. After that, I got nuttin since I've only gotten to the fourth round once  ;D

Turns out I had the samples but the path was bad in my mame.ini file.  Must be the first game I tried that needed samples with this setup.

Having proper sounds did not help my playing though.

I think I only cracked 30k twice.   I also used that same strategy though I have tried others.   I also tried using constant thrusters and confusing the ships but that didn't pan out either.   Anyone know if the twin galaxies high scores are available anywhere since the site is still down?   Was just wondering what astronomical high score someone posted for this game!    ;D

Just in time.

The first image is of my first and only game on older MAME. The next three are from perhaps my sixth on 147.

@gray_area

So I assume you made it thru the entire first round?    Does it just start over?   Is there a bonus screen?

Very nice score!

I will have the score totals soon.

There's no bonus round. It goes onto another set of waves, dockings, etc.  I swear I remember getting way farther in my early MAME years, but I may be confusing that with Zektor.

Just for interest's sake: there is a sort of trick I discovered last night to getting higher scores. Not a sure thing but very effective. Fly vertically, with pulsing thrusts. The ships will follow you off screen and somewhat group behind you, and you can pick them off. Sometimes a little waggle is needed to catch those more to the flank. The green booster is least effective here (least effective in general I think).

Next game is Pigout.

Re-visiting this briefly: I used the vertical flying tactic the whole game and got about 54k. A further strategy is to (always, I think) use the boosters in the following order: green, purple, blue. Blue is forward and double rear fire combined, so complements the vertical flying tactic, especially as shots carry off the screen.
