BTW, I don't think anyone here purposely attacks newbies. Go look at your intro thread, Dave. Someone welcomed you immediately.

Who?

Sorry if this is coming across that way. Not intended. I have seen some comments that come across as expecting each and every new project to either break new ground or gtfo, that's all I'm saying.  Probably also not intended. I use it to push myself more than I would, and I can't speak for how others see it.  I just figured it would make a good topic to think about. Wasn't trying to say I haven't felt welcomed.

Ok, to get advice from the old and not so long for this world (even though no one asked for it, but hey, im old and so who cares?):
Here is what I have found on this journey called "life":
Don't worry about it. It's probably going to be ok in the morning.
You have an idea? Go for it, who cares if no one else thinks its the best frickin idea since peanut butter and jelly?
If it makes you happy, that, in the end, is all that matters.
YOU are the ONE that YOU have to satisfy.
But don't be stupid, learn from others adventures, but in the end, it is YOU that has to live with your decisions.
This aint rocket science, its all about what makes you happy.
And allowing others to share your happiness is the real key to life.
Oh yeah, don't take any wooden nickels and anything (even franken panels) can be fixed.
And, also too, match the friggin t molding with the cab color.

In the end, this is all Kaneda fault.  :lol

It's all good, Dave. I enjoy these type of discussions from time to time. And honestly, I don't think most of us expect every cab to be epic or groundbreaking- just fundamentally sound.

BTW, I have yet to figure out why there is such hatred for cupholders here..  :timebomb:

I know I actively hate them, but that's me. Why take a chance on some drunk fool spilling his Hamm's all over your beautiful CP? ;D

I always took it as an annoyance because no classic cabinet employs cup holders.

Well.... unless you count cocktails but they are cup holders.

cup holders encourage drinks near / on  the machines. Not in my house (*cough* Garage *cough*)

In my game room, drinking is encouraged, lol.  A little over a week ago I was trying out a new update for the ipac uio to enable wake keys and I had the keyboard tray out and a beer sitting behind the keyboard.  I went to launch mala and pushed the keyboard tray in and dumped the full beer directly on top of the keyboard.. At least I didn't do that on the CP, lol.

I figure a cupholder is gonna keep the beer in place and not let it spill, where not having one is going to be a recipe for disaster.. At least when the cabinet is sitting between the beer fridge and the kegerator..

But I didn't put cupholders in, even though I have a great spot for them.. I figured from the comments in other posts that it was some kind of blasphemy, second only to using "cade" in the name, lol..

It's different if you spill beer onto your cab as opposed to your friends doing it.

I spilled water on my laptop and now there's a hard water stain. I can clean it (it's long and involved) but it's also a reminder to be more careful. If your friends do it, they generally won't give a ---fudgesicle--- and are likely to do it again.

Well, this too.  >:D

And a cupholder invites liquid near the cabs, which should be a no-no. At least the ones on the sides aren't as bad as the ones built in the CP. What's even worse is when they put the beer ON TOP of your machine...

But hey, buy my cupholders when I list them for sale!!!  :applaud:

I say cup it up bro.  It doesn't bother me as long as you go in with the knowledge that you'll at some point have to clean a mess.  I've spilt beer on just about everything I own at some point or another.  Life happens man.

In a nutshell, I think a lot of this is like the art teacher telling their students to sculpt something other than an ashtray.

I'm cool with it if it's part of a clever pun (ShoRyuKade, Darkade, etc). Just slapping -cade on the end of your name or a word, though? Not a fan. If I ever name something the Yotcade, let TopJimmyCooks do this to me:

I say cup it up bro.

It took me a second to remember we were talking about cupholders.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

And personally, I've given up or are planning to give up sharing my opinion on certain things because, quite frankly, my opinion doesn't matter. So anyone planning to build a 4 player cocktail/pedestal with cupholders and angled, 8 button P3 & P4 sticks named the MarvelvsCapcomcade has nothing to fear.

I am so gonna do a marvel vs Capcom cab with lightning bolts, a 5 foot long 6 player, 11 joystick CP with 4 spinners, two trackballs, and 8 buttons per player (all 6 players), a 14 inch CRT monitor (circa 1989, you know, for originality), and .. wait for it... cupholders!  Now that I won't be judged for doing so, I am ALL OVER IT!

Did I mention I am going to use 2 Tron sticks too, just because you never know..

Yeah, but that was for your kid. How old was it he at the time, like 5? They get a kick out of that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.
