Looking great man, keep on trucking.  Sorry to hear about your friend.  It can most certainly take the wind out of ones sails.

Plug "switch boot" into Amazon FTW.

Well, that's awesome.  I've been looking for these for a long time for the Battletech pod.  Thanks man!

Been able to get after a few things in the last bit - I have two other projects actively going and one on the burner right now so I've been multitasking like a mofo:

Got the yoke prepped and laid out to tackle assembly

If you need to replace your bumpers these are a great fit and a set of four will run you $6 at Lowes.  They are a little big but you can trim them if necessary.

Thumb button installed

Interior view

Analog and trigger wired up together for the right hand grip.  Went to go hook it up to the kade+ for testing and realized that I don't have any 10k ohm resistors left in the house so I'll have to run to the Shack.  Kinda took the wind out of my sails as I was on a roll.  The cut away on the trigger mount is for analog clearance - it'll be a tight fit

These are the boots I went with for the analog stick, it's kind of of pricey for such a little piece but you get three to practice on.  I had to cut off the top ring to get the fit I wanted.  Pic is link fyi.

Once I got the kadestick sorted I wired everything up for a test fit - had my axis reversed and on one pot I had the 5v and G reversed but that's why we test  ;D

Here's where I began to build up the support.  I thought about using putty but hot glue a little at a time gave me a lot of control over how the support structure got built.  I wanted to ensure that the pots and pushbutton on the unit didn't get gummed up.  It was tedious but once I had a good base I was able to start using wood stints to help build up the area faster.  Of course if I ever have to change the unit out I'll probably just buy a new handle rather than fight that mess lol.

That T-molding needs to hurry up and arrive so I can mount the monitor and get this show on the road!

Now we're getting somewhere.  The boot around the analog stick needs to be glued down as there is a little bit of lift at the corners but I'll wait until I do the final test to do that.

Stun Runner was pretty boring to me.  It could have had potential..  with some changes.

Def. needs a motion tube.   Maybe a nearly lay down position seat-swing..  that travels via motor in a full +6ft diameter loop.
That or a skateboard version of it... but the 15ft diameter would be hard to house.  heh

T-molding came in today!  Couldn't help but get it installed tonight and snapping a few pics.  Yoke is just show mounted for now, monitor if mounted but the boards are just sitting in the back.  I have a black out template for the speaker grill but liked how it looked with the white showing through.  That may get a stencil job before the end too - we'll see.  Next up is the bezel and coin door.  Then I'll fiddle with the kickplate panel and start wiring it all together - I really should start working on the art for this

To be clear I haven't fired it up yet but I'm pretty sure SW is going to be straight up sick on this thing  ;D

I've been busy lately and since this is my "idle fingers" project it hasn't been getting much love.  I finished a project for a member here and am working on another commission piece now; however, I have found some time to work on the FE (big thanks to Arximidis for all his work on that HTML5 FE of his) and tonight I finally klugged together what I think is a passable startup video.  Used a lot of handbrake, vlc, and windows movie maker to get this rolling but I think it strikes a good balance.  Whatchya think?

Robert Preston never sounded so good.  Nice job.  :applaud:

Is it too late to put forth some suggestions?

Can you put floor pedals on the sides of the cab like on the Imperial Speeder Bike so you can play flight Sims and racing games?

Put in a proper back support and house a woofer for feedback in game, or a knocker like in steel talons?

Turn the cab into a proper cockpit like the one below without the wings?   ;D

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Finishing up a commission piece this weekend and immediately starting another. I'll be tackling two pedestal builds at once. My fingers have been decidedly un-idle but I'll still be tinkering away at this catch as catch can. In think June will be the month to get this one wrapped.

Been making some progress ::)

Done so far:

Wiring, body work, all controls, coin door, a lot of clean up

Still to do:

FE work, game installation and setup, repaint the CP and seat.

I had it gloss white and changed it to flat white because I thought I'd like it better.  While it looks great the gloss gave such a more resilient durable finish so I'll take the plastics off and redo them.  It's not that much work and I'll be much happier with it once finished.

I would like to eventually like to switch the TV in the unit out for a better monitor but finding el-cheapo 25" monitors can be tricky.

Now I need to start on the art.  By the way, I'm totally up for recommendations on the art.  I have a very blank slate right now so I can go any which way.  Starfighter is the general theme but it doesn't have to be "Last Starfighter" gunstar, it can be anything really.  I'll play with some ideas and get some options posted later.

Naw, he's got a regular drinking buddy now ;) he'll be okay!  As for the space, the house we own now has a great space above the garage for all my stuff but that is kid-land so I told the wife she could have the rest of the house - I was taking the garage.  All of it.  Rain or shine.  It's a shaky truce but the accord has held these last few years.  She knows that if she parks in my work area a pin is going into the bedroom alcove (pretty much an office) where the dogs sleep.

Yeah, the original was a shape I loved with a scheme I hated.  I can't tell you how much better it feels with a 25" in it too, really brings you into the game.  I went with 30% tinted glass too, it really makes it pop.

Looks great. You should totally go Gunstar theme, though.

Yot, and Rocky - yeah it's just too good a theme to pass up really.  I have that same image saved in a half dozen folders all over my computer right now lol.  It'll be a trick to implement it right but I think it'll be worth it.  Who wants to get started while I play some games ::)

+1.  Looks REALLY good.

I know...damn!  Addicted to mountain biking right now.  Been riding 3-4 times a week.  Picked up a nasty spider bite this week though.  I've been taking copious amounts of steriods and antibiotics and I feel like crap.  Plus, I've been on the wagon for the last 4 months, so I'm bored.  I did trade an arcade shell for this:

I have it "for sale" on craigs...for a bit too much.  >:D  I had to rebuild the carb and head, but it starts on the first kick with no choke.  So, I've been "keeping it running" for the last few weeks by driving it around the neighborhood.  What the heck...kids aren't interested in it anyway.

:D

How about an LED ring or two as thrusters out the back?

Those LED rings could be fun - I'll have to play with the design, I'm leaning towards a subdued palette but a splash of color might be just what the doctor ordered, or some nice white rings.  Ooooh, white rings.

Game setup has been going well.  Mame was a cinch, N64 still needs a little tweaking on the C buttons, just to get it to play natural on the yoke+ (starfox should have always been C^ for boost and Cv for brake.  SW Racer works a charm and is an absolute blast, Trilogy on Supermodel took me a while to get the X-axis calibrated well and I think I'll go ahead and toss on a new X-pot when I redo the plastics as there is a bit of jitter that isn't due to software.  Really the only games giving me any headache right now are Wings of St. Nazaire - because it requires a mouse to navigate the menus (must complain to the devs), and Rogue Squadron 3D because it's dumb and doesn't want to use a joystick at all.  Still fiddling with that one, may get a full joytokey mapping.

Why does R2 look like a kegerator now?

(BTW, I am a fan of your work, great stuff!)

*Edit:  I just saw your other thread and saw that you indeed changed him into a kegerator.. On the one hand, that would be pretty friggin cool, but on the other hand I really loved your idea to have him as a projector.  Although frankly when I first read your thread on that whole build I wondered how you could ever do a projector with a CP attached and not have the display jumping all over the place.   I figured just the computer and projector was bad ass enough, but hey, a man needs refreshment too, and with the amount of work you put into that, you are entitled to do whatever the heck you want with it.  Now you need to add some robotics so you can have him drive over to you whenever you need a refill....

Funny its the other way for me - Wings won`t map to my Apac natively, but works okish mapping to keys with Xpadder, but Rogue worked OOTB?.
Anyone used Vjoy much?.

I haven't used VJoy at all - might need to.  Wings maps fine, just that the menus require a mouse and if I do a J2K map for that it'll mess up the controls in the actual game.  I talked to the devs and they said that they're implementing joystick navigation in the next update whenever that is.  In the mean time I'll just leave the wifi mini keypad nearby.

Rogue sees the KADE analog inputs but not the digital (odd) however when I start a game none of the controls work - even the ones I was able to map.  There are a few things I can try within the game's settings first that I was reading about but if those don't work I might do a full keyboard map - if Rogue will even see the emulated keys :dunno

HTML FE was the QT version and was giving me a few minor headaches so I reformated to W7 32 bit.  I had been XP64.  I really need to dig up a copy of W7 64 so I'm not letting resources sit unused.  I'll be getting the updated FE installed tonight and hopefully I'll be back on track.  This coming weekend I'll do the plastics repainting and start on the art hopefully.

Kevin mentioned that this post might be helpful.

Please let us know if you figure out a fix.   ;D

That's what I was referring to also - great minds huh? ;)

FYI if you're using a KADE+ that works, click on defaults and away you go.  It's not perfect but it's very playable if you have enough buttons hooked up.  I'd say that without a 4 axis mod to your yoke (Yoke+) it isn't playable as of yet.  Also, map all your buttons to the lowest numbers on the KADE with your primary trigger to B1.  You can't remap in Rogue but you can at least flip and unflip axes so that's good.  It's really frustrating for all the buttons but at least it works.  I'll need to get a few missions in just to make sure I don't need to map anything differently (should be able to through J2K) but for right now it works - which is cool.

Star Wars Racer is still my favorite game right now - 1st person gameplay on the yoke is insane.  Just installed Nitronic Rush, now I need to go get that Xbox joy emulating program and see how that works as Nitronic requires the Xbox controller to work.  Won't see the Kade at all.

I have a few other games to set up but the only big one left to get working is Last Starfighter by Rogue Synapse.  The mapping program doesn't see the KADE either but that's okay because it's only true analog on one axis anway.  I'll do a full J2K map on that and see if I can get it working - if not it's no big loss.  The theme is better than the game lol.

There are some other steam games I want to get working but I'll need that Xbox Joy thingymajigger working first since so many of those require it.

Nitronic Rush works with x360ce - it's a blast - you'll need to map an "enter" key to one of your buttons to navigate.  You can use the joy to move through menus but stupidly you can select anything without enter or a right click it seems.  That's okay because Nitronic doesn't see the enter key once you're in the game so it doesn't mess anything up.

Played through first mission of Rogue then it crashed in the second mission - threw out several errors.  I'll take a better look at that later.

Downloading a patch for Shadows so that should be up tomorrow.

Did I mention SW Racer is a total blast on this build?  Still loving it.

Dyad, Geometry Wars, and some other little games are on and working great.

N64 games are pretty fun too on it - Star Fox for me and I added Mario Kart for the boys (and me ;) ).

Just need to get the last few little issues sorted out with the FE and I should be a wrap on software.

Did a lot of game installation this week/weekend.  Sonic and the Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed is awesome.  If you have a driving cab and you don't have this then shame on you.  It's like Mario Kart on speed.  Plus racing as Wreck-it-Ralph in what looks to be Mater the Tow-Truck with a spiked wrecking ball on the back is way too much cross-over to not be tried.  Also, it is a giant whorey beyotch to get running with the KADE+, or any no xbox controller for that matter.  X360CE needs some special tweaking for that one.

Uploaded a bunch of gun games and discovered that only positional gun games are fun on the yoke.  All the light gun games are just annoying.  Right now I've got T2, House of the Dead 3 (not a positional but optimized for PC and plays just like one what with the auto reload), Alien 3 the Gun, Space Gun, and Jurassic Park running - if anybody knows any other positional gun games (PC or otherwise) let me know.  They're a big hit.

Fiddled with Nitronic Rush some more and it's really fun on the cab - just took some tweaking to get the right controller setup.  I need to look at updating the Yoke+ to analog triggers.  Wonder how I would do that and if the Kade+ firmware can take two more axes (one axis for each trigger).  Would be a huge help in all the racing games as right now I have to feather the throttle because it's all or nothing.

Probably the biggest hit so far has been Midway's Hydro-Thunder.  Everybody has logged at least a dozen races on that over the last week.  I really really wish I could find an analog version of Off-Road Thunder.  The Midway classics III version is only digital which blows goats on a yoke.  Barring any weird software issues this week I should finally be starting on the art for this badboy soon.

Consider me shamed and sitting in the corner - but I am fixing that right now.

Yep the more I use my yoke the more I am convinced its the most accurate controller yet, and I have a fancy X52 PRO HOTAS to compare it to.
Someone needs to produce a contemporary yoke with a throttle and all the bells and whistles.

But whilst we are dreaming about that happening ben heck did a keyboard hack to make the WASD keys analog that may be of interest?.

EDIT, so I just rewatched that episode and I guess that for your needs you could just pull out the shoulder buttons from a  USB xbox 360 pad - but then you have two controllers connected.

Well, the AVR that the KADE+ is on has room for six axes, just need to get Sharpfork or Degenatrons or somebody to add the other two into the firmware.  Then it's an easy three wire hook up - I just need to find drop in units that will work.  I imagine that those small surface mount pots would work well and I could attach it to the anchor post for the trigger - or use linear slide pots at the base of the trigger.  I'd keep a digital input as well.

The other adjustment to the yoke+ would be adding a digital direction (POV HAT) thumb stick to the left handle.  That would create four more inputs.  All this is theoretical for now - I just got the unit playing good there is no way I'm ripping it down and going back to prototyping.  I'm just psyched I got the right handle analog thumbstick working so I can get after N64 and newer games with my yoke.
