I have this laptop that it's not detecting/charging the battery. I purcahsed new battery (2 in fact) and also purchase the adapter. Still telling me no battery detected.

At first when i put in the new battery, it had a nice charge to it, but message say not charging. As long as I have the laptop plugin in the aC, it never drain the battery.

Once power was lost, the battery takes over and it stayed on of course until battery run out. Now it's zero charge and no more juice.

Read a lot about this HP probook having same issues, tried some that was suggested but still not good.

Laptop works as long as it's plugin.

There is this one article I read that, if you don't have an official HP Battery or Adapter, the system will detect it that it's not genuine and will not charge the Battery.

Batteries/adapter stated that its compatible with HP product.

Bottom line is, I have NEW BATTERY, ADAPTER and I don't want to purchase an OFFICIAL HP parts to find out if this is the case.

I like someone locally to help me with this parts or use the HP parts from you to test it if this case is true (before i buy HP parts)

I hope someone local can assist.

Thanks.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Seems to be a known problem with the HP implementation of the charge bit for recharging the battery. If you unplug the ac adapter when the battery is between 94% and full charge (even with genuine batteries !! ) - not sure if HP has fixed the problem or not but you might call HP and find out as they might have a BIOS update or something that corrects the problem !

How does the notebook charge the battery?
Adhering to recommendations by battery cell suppliers and best practices, the notebook does not continue charging the battery once the battery is 100% fully charged. Once the battery is 100% fully charged, the 'terminate charge bit' is set, preventing the battery from charging. The battery does not clear the 'terminate charge bit' until after the fuel gauge falls below 94%. Once the battery fuel gauge falls below 94%, the 'charge bit' is set and the battery does begin charging with the AC adaptor connected to the notebook. If the AC adaptor is disconnected between the levels of 94% to 100%, the 'charge bit' will not be set and the notebook will no longer charge the battery.

I also updated the BIOS (release 5/2016).

All the tricks and suggestions tried and NO GOOD.

The only thing left is the HP Genuine bit that i need to try out but don't want to fork out more CASH. Last thing on HP FAQ list was the MOBO needs replacing.

Hope someone has one.

Have you tried this which is suggested on the HP support forum (seems to have helped some people get it reset until they once again unplug at between 94 and 100% charge and have to do it over again !!

First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.

Now, plug in the AC Adapter and start the PC without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the PC to see if the battery now charges correctly.

Best wishes,

DP-K

all your posting, I have tried ALL...

The only thing I need left to test is the HP GENUINE BS that someone claims (if it's true).

The last thing which is the HP FAQ is replacing MOBO.

Long shot here, but if your new battery is a cheap copy the voltage protection may have let it drain too low. Lithium ion batteries get wonky if they drop too low in voltage.

If you can check the voltage of the battery see if it adds up...The whole battery is likely 19.2v or something...Look up the pin out and test.
The cells should be at least 3v per cell.

I have successfully gotten a dead lithium battery to charge with a NiCad charger to 3v and then the standard charger after that...but you would have to jury-rig it.
OH and it might blow up!

good luck

  • If you are gonna do it, do it right..
I had a pile of HP laptops here, as well as Dells, and the chargers are identical in every way I can see except the stickers, yet somehow when I plug a Dell charger into an HP laptop, it tells me it isn't an HP charger and doesn't charge the battery.  I can use the HP chargers on the Dells just fine, and unfortunately when I sold some of the used Dells I paired them up with the HP chargers, so I have a couple HP's without HP chargers.. what a pain in the butt.  They are also finicky on the battery, although some brands seem to work.  I didn't waste too much time finding batteries for the used ones I had, I just sold them as is or threw them away.

I'm still trying to find someone and in the meantime, while waiting, I am trying to sell it as is (telling the buyer exactly whats happening).

I just don't want to buy HP BATTERY & ADAPTER. I need to find out first before I buy (don't want to put  more $$$ into this thing).
