There's a retro gaming con going on today in the Phoenix area. I saw a photo posted on Facebook.  It looks familiar...

So cool to see something you made and gave to the community getting out there for people to enjoy...

I'd give you rep, but this forum is dated...

Yep, I'm in. That game is definitely unique and has some sweet sound effects. Isn't there some urban legend out there that this game becomes addicting and makes you crazy. Some kind of mind control. LOL Something like that?

Saw my first Chinese-American blues guitarist last night.  He was interesting.

Last gasps of summer.  Cling onto them.

San Antonio was alright, we both miss it.  Just big enough to have everything, not so big as to be constantly painful.  If the career options for us had been better, we would have stayed.  It is very family oriented so probably a good place for kids, too.  You could do a lot worse on a transfer.

San Antonio is a place I have spent a total of 3 hours in, but I personally had a great impression of it. I like the area.

I guess I wasn't clear though, they would fire me and rehire down in Texas. I don't make enough money to be worth transferring. I talked with my supervisor about how the meeting went. The overlords will still review my job, but it sounds like they want to offer me a more difficult position for less pay and worse job title.

Eh, no worries though, it is all good.

I don't plan on sticking with the company, this is just me bitching since I am forced to get off ---my bottom--- and find a better job.

That was actually a pretty good steak, to be honest.  We don't eat much red meat so it was stretched over a couple of meals.

The 'secret' is this stuff:

However, the age old problem with using Bolner's Fiesta seasoning is that every damned restaurant in Texas uses it.  When I lived in Missouri, I finally accepted the fact I would never find acceptable carne guisada and did the unthinkable - made it myself rather than pay someone else $5 to do it.  I found a grocery store sketchy enough to carry these spices, made up a batch, and it was like lightning struck when I realized carne guisada tastes EXACTLY the same in every restaurant in South Texas and I was holding the reason why in my grubby paws.

Tuesday night, while watching a Chinese man lick a guitar, I was feasting on "cheap steak night" where  a 1 pound rib eye was plunked on my table for $12.  It was great and everything... but tasted exactly like the ones I make at home.

These are serious Texas problems, folks.

Meanwhile I ate at Bob Evans yesterday and they actually sent me a really good hamburger.  These are the end times.

Finally finished my rear brakes today.(I had done my front earlier this summer) What a PITA these back ones were. The front ones were way easier. Saved $900 total by doing it myself though. :-)

I've always been annoyed by cardboard displays blocking grocery store isles.  I have thought about knocking them all over until the store stops allowing them.  It would probably just get me banned though.

Accidentally backed up into one yesterday and brought it down.  Nothing breakable, but boxes flew everywhere.  Although it took no balls on my part because it was an accident, I still feel chuffed for finally knocking one over.

Paid good money to have this man scream in my face and dump a bottle of water on me:

I never, in a million years, thought my group would be the liveliest bunch at a concert.  I only had to tell the neuroscientists to STFU about astrocytes 4-5 times.  95% of the crowd stood there motionless and enraptured as Erk Aicrag of Hocico spent two hours yelling and running around a stage.

At my grocery where I buy my coffee beans the dispenser has a long neck. The handle is at the top. When your bag is full, the neck is full of beans and there is only one thing to do - run.

Just picked this son of a ---smurfette--- up for my Ms. Pac-Man cocktail cabinet. It uses a special monitor bracket, and fortunately my buddy Jawhn had one for me. I'm glad, because buying one new would cost me more than the actual cocktail and the CRT monitor I'm going to put into it cost me.

Yup you are right... ran into a similar issue.

If I had some money to burn I'd buy out a failed sheet metal factory and go to town selling misc brackets and mounts to the community.

Today was the day of the Monitor.  I got the CRT mounted in my Super Pac cocktail,  and I started work rewiring Janky Kong and really securing the CRT in there.

Some mornings you're surprised you woke up.  Imagine Jessica Alba bends over and says, "you have 15 minutes to do your worst" and you have an idea of how that final weekend of summer went.

Anyway, a few highlights:

pulled the trigger on the rest of the appliances for my kitchen.. all so they can match the new fridge, lol.  Got the microwave installed, looks good, the rest will be here in a couple weeks.  Used another coupon for Lowe's and saved a couple hundred dollars, plus the labor day sales savings.  Of course, now that the appliances will all be new the last piece of the kitchen - the floor - needs to be done...  That means the kitchen, dining room, living room, hallway, etc. all needs to be done at the same time (if I want it to all flow nicely) and with my back and wrist lately I'm not sure I could do 500-700 sq feet of tile work by myself, so that will end up waiting, but it's nice when another long term piece of the puzzle comes together in your house.

The weekend was nice and quiet, with the microwave install being the only real excitement.  Daughter's away at college, younger daughter been spending time with her mom, and son has been working a lot, and the girlfriend been working days, so got all three days pretty much alone and managed to get about 20,000 more words done in my next novel.  Pretty chuffed about it too, getting close to the end (up to 95,000 words now) and the scenes are starting to practically write themselves.  Late last night I was waiting on the GF to get out of the shower so we could watch Ray Donovan and got on a scene and next thing I knew it was 2 hours later and my fingers were getting sore from pounding out nearly 6,000 words in one nonstop shot.  It's almost like going to a movie the way it just comes out of my head and onto the screen.  Days like that I love writing.

Since my stove and dishwasher work fine I'm not in a hurry to get them into the house, so I can use the free delivery.  I can't blame the boy though, that fridge was heavy..

I did the microwave alone, which pushed my still healing wrist to the limit.. it's a bit stiff and sore today, but I managed just fine.

The anti chuff on all this is Lowes wouldn't let me use the 10% coupon and the 5% for using their card at the same time, and after shopping around I ended up doing this all online.  To find out if the card would work I had to check out and complete the order.  When it didn't I wanted to switch to my 1% chase card ($18 is $18 after all), and it took calling and redoing the order.  Thankfully when I went to pick up the microwave, the lady at the store was reviewing my order and the lady I called online hadn't cancelled the first order before rewriting the order to use a different card, so I had 2 stoves and 2 dishwashers on order.  She got it squared away and got the delivery set up.  Oh, and on the fridge they tried to charge me a late payment fee and interest ($78 total) because the billing month ended the day after I bought the fridge, but I never got a statement and it was due 2 weeks later.  I paid it about 30 days after it was due (online) and when I got the statement I saw the charges and called them a bitched out the poor lady and she refunded it.  Since I changed cards, I haven't used that $78 credit yet, but I'll eventually get a check if I don't spend it on other things (always something I need at Lowes anyway, so I'll probably spend it eventually).

Now that my fridge is working right again and I have ice and the freezer is all frozen, I'm happy with the appliances.  The whole problem with the fridge was a neutral wire was disconnected inside the chassis from the factory, so the heater never worked and it couldn't defrost.. the frost built up after a few weeks and blocked the vents where the cold air could blow into the fridge and was even hitting the fan causing the thing to sound like a twin prop Cessna winding up.  A little cleaning up and I will have a full set of decent white appliances to sell...  Gonna get the fridge fixed and sell it too since it's in really good shape.  Might recover six or seven hundred total on all 4 appliances, and with all the sales and discounts it only cost around $4k for the top of the line Whirlpool Gold, so making some money back is gravy..  Figured in the beginning it would take $5k or more to transition to stainless.  if I can come out at $3500 total I'll be happy.
