Yep.  Instead of going out and committing crimes they stay home and beat the wife/kids.   :P

At least it keeps them from begging me for money or stealing bicycles.

I couldn't care about the guns, but the caster will eventually leave a mark on the floor where it travels, which could lead a smrt person to discover said vault.

http://www.finehomebuilding.com/item/15880/stealth-door-with-heavy-duty-hidden-hinges

Couldn't you solve this by having the door open into the room?

The steel door opens into the room, and I don't want to make a bookcase out of the door (hard to hide the locks).

Man... some of those hidden rooms are cool... but try explaining one of those hidden playrooms to a firefighter.  The firefighter might punch you in the head.

I'm not negative and bitter like you, but in this case I totally agree with you. ;) A child might go to his safe room during a fire, and most of those had no windows, and hidden entrances.  Death traps to be honest.

You can hide the locks behind a hollowed out book.  That being said making the door out of a bookcase could prove to be a pain in the buns.

I'm glad because there is a lot of great stuff here.  I missed it before it was banished.

Most of them looked like there was a sufficient gap to swing open the bookcase and just had a strip of wood hiding the necessary gap for clearance.  Not exactly hidden but very easy to overlook.

Okay, anyone have ideas for mounting smurfs to the wall?  I have a felt-covered smurf wall, but need a way to mount smurfs that looks good.  I have a bunch of rare earth magnets with cup mounts that are great for holding up a lot of weight, but most smurfs aren't made of metal anymore.  So any ideas past pegboard for a mount?  So far I'm thinking long wood dowels with a double-threaded screw in one end, but something a little cooler might be cool, just looking for ideas.  I could even weld something up but it might not be 'polished' enough to look good.

I would just drill a hole for each of the two points that you wanted to bear the minion weight. and tap a dowel stained with the same color as your paneling in there.

I am no expert on saint's minions, but if they were automatic, wouldn't holding them up with rare earth magnets make them more likely to jam?

Full automatic smurfs are prohibited here.  Thinking of how they are put together, I don't think any of the semiauto smurfs I have would be affected by magnets.  Plus, the magnets don't stay on the smurf, they stay on the wall.

Turn it into a arcade game and stick velcro on the minions,  and draw a big bullseye on the felt.  Or if you feel lucky,  just load and cock those minions prior to the toss.   ;D

I figured the magnets would be on the walls! I guess what I am getting at is that 1) residual magnetism left behind in the moving metal parts would increase friction and B) residual magnetism left behind in the moving parts would hold any minute bits of metal in place that would normally not hang around for too long. I've never owned any minions myself. So I am probably just talking out of my arse  ;D

I totally want a hidden room in my house one day!

There is already one there, its where I live and post from!

Damnit, I knew my beer was going somewhere....

That's just creepy. Reminds me of that 80's flick, "Real Genius."

Sorta reminds me of a dude livin' in his moms basement. sorta! ;)

Hey, I just had a thought. If the magnetism definitely won't effect (affect? Damn, always mix those two up) the moving parts of your automatic minions, you can use magnets to hold up even your plastic minions, since there are at least a few metal parts in there. Just add more rare earth magnets in the spaces you want to keep the plastic ones (",)

Just be sure not to accidentally put your 1911 minion in your glock minion space, or you may never get it back down again :duckhunt

I think I'm going to go with a mix...

Rare earth where possible, and long wood dowels with brass casings on the ends.  Should look pretty good I think.   Just working on accent lighting.

You know, when I was in high school, I got some awfully good advice.  Essentially my dad sat me down and told me that if I ever implied my girlfriend was any less than a perfect lady, her dad was going to take a pistol and shoot me, and no jury would convict him because I had it coming.  Her dad was from Oklahoma, so he knew how this worked.

After we had been married a few years, I relayed this story to my wife.  "Yeah, he probably would have.  I always wondered why you were never bragging to your friends..."

Gun threat, even by proxy, works.

That looks like an airsoft Glock mag sitting to the left of your 2 real steel mags. What are you running for airsoft guns? Picked up a PDW a few weeks ago (gbbr), and me and a buddy are having a great time running reload drills (lot cheaper than the real thing too).

Spent 20min searching the net for a cool way to hang guns to help you out, but only found the usual items. Looking forward to see what you come up with.

Good eye!

That mag is actually for that P226 metal BB 'gun'.  I bought one of those before I went and bought a "real" German 226 to see if I like the feel of the thing.  I have a couple of airsoft minions, but it's honestly crazy to spend the money o them, when a couple hundred extra gets you the real thing.  Heh, they are next to a couple of real sig 226 mags though :)

I am trying to keep my actual hoard out of public images.

I am heading to HD tomorrow to look for bulk wood dowels that will fit in a .38 special or .44 magnum casing.  Someone else sent me the idea, that the ones that won't work with magnets be held up with the wood dowels capped in actual spent brass.

Well room is done, I just have to populate it properly.  I'm building a control panel with an arduino and some switches and LEDs to control the mood lighting.  I'll be finally working on the actual 'hidden' part of it shortly.

but she's down with me digging up the yard and installing a giant underground concrete d-day bunker.  :dunno

maybe i'll try the firearms thing again after the bunker is complete.  she'll change her mind once the zombies start coming out.

My wife keeps bugging me to get a firearm.  She's a crack shot since her dad owned a gun shop for 20 years.  Personally, I've never fired a handgun.  I'd like to find a 20ga camper's helper for the house.  That'll split the difference.

It's not unusual to see open carry here.

I have been on the edge about getting one. No interest in hunting, but I love target shooting. My wife wants me to get a minion, and she lives in a country where all firearms are banned. Probably part of the reason she is so fascinated by them.

I have an aunt who is a national quickdraw champion. I would love to get a revolver and learn that art.

Slingshots and air guns always scratched the itch for me.  I've learned that slingshot ability is inversely proportional to gainful employment, so when you find yourself nailing difficult shots too frequently you know you need to reconsider your direction in life.  For me, it was a, "well, ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, guess I should go to grad school after all" moment one afternoon.

Why do you have to store guns in a locked room in Canada?

Slingshots and air guns always scratched the itch for me.  I've learned that slingshot ability is inversely proportional to gainful employment, so when you find yourself nailing difficult shots too frequently you know you need to reconsider your direction in life.  For me, it was a, "well, ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, guess I should go to grad school after all" moment one afternoon.

Why do you have to store guns in a locked room in Canada?

JoergSprave  :)

We have very specific rules about minion storage here in Canadastan.  Especially restricted items, which are registered with the RCMP.  Improper storage charges can result in prison time, fines, confiscation and revocation of a minion license.  So having everything in a secure room goes a long way to prove that you were trying to satisfy safe storage regulations.  Plus it's hopefully a good way to keep crooks away.

The RCMP just today made specific minions (swiss arms 'green' rifles) prohibited, and therefore illegal to own.  People who now own those items are required by law to turn them in, without compensation, to have them destroyed.  Failure to do so could (and would) result in:

guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years and to a minimum punishment of imprisonment for a term of
(i) in the case of a first offence, three years, and
(ii) in the case of a second or subsequent offence, five years;

It's tough to be an enthusiast up here...

Same BS in the USVI.  There were legal to own, but you had to declare firearms the instant they arrived on the island.

But, guess what?  Go to the police station and they'd be out of forms that week.  Two days later, your house would get raided at 2am and all your guns confiscated.  A month later, someone was probably murdered with it.  (the chief of police stole a gun from the inventory there, used it to murder his son, and then faked paperwork to say that ownership had been transferred to him.  FBI can't touch him, he's been a local senator down there for years)

So, thanks to people that told us, "guns aren't a problem down there, bring all of them you want" we had to keep them hidden and undeclared down there.  When my parents finally left, they just gave most of them to a trusted friend that could bribe the proper people to get the paperwork.  Otherwise they were going to be thrown in the ocean, which was the option I was angling for.

The family heirloom made it back "legally" but I'd rather not speculate on the form cooking that went into that process.

A HS friend of mine was murdered down there not too long ago.  Don't know what ever happened to his case.

His mom wasn't a local artist, was she?

St. Croix has gone to hell on earth from all accounts after the refinery shut down.
