Gas cylinder has failed on a chair.  PVC pipes and hose clamps require a trip to the hardware store and money.

First, convert your router into a table router.



Take the piece of wood you found in the attic, cut it in half lengthwise and then run it over your router.  I added another C-clamp to keep it safe.



Not too bad, ready for the flat black spray paint:



No black zip ties long enough.  Oh well, fixed anyway.

Well, safety precautions were observed.  I had only had one beer before I began, and I made sure I was wearing a cheap pair of Wranglers.

It was only two passes each on a couple of 5 inch blocks.  Router was turned off and clamps checked after each pass.  Wouldn't trust it for anything more but hadn't loosened any.

I love the fact that the zip ties were carefully cut off  a half inch away from the heads, at an angle.  Like pungi sticks waiting for an unsuspecting foot.

I know I'm legendarily cheap (frugal?) but I admit I'm slightly ashamed to reveal I always leave a little extra on zip ties so that I could potentially reuse them.

Anyway, some of the reactions here got me to rethinking about safety, so I dug around and found some more scrap wood (love this place) and came up with this:



Not bad but I didn't feel like I could leave it running unattended.

Nah, not redneck.  This used found lumber, power tools and cable ties.  If it were truly redneck, it would have included duct tape and at least one empty Bud Light can.

I don't screw around on the safety goggles.  You get metal shavings scraped out of your eye one time and you won't let it happen again.

I went to an office chair warehouse a few years ago and said, "show me what you've got with a screw base" and had the salesguy laugh in my face.  So, whatever, he sells me their $200 special and the damn thing is pulverized in a matter of months.

Got an Ergogenesis chair, and honestly, back pain was lessened and it held up fairly well.  About $1,200 though.

    That was just a quick search, and by golly you are correct, its part of a kit that could have been bad..... But in the interest of fixing that, it appears the base is fairly solid, coulndt you use a piece of that outdoor conduit (the grey stuff) and slide it over the cylinder ??

90% of my tools come from Harbor Freight, except I besides C-clamps I wouldn't recommend any of Harbor Freight's clamps.  In fact, I use harbor freight C-clamps to hold my other harbor freight clamps together.

The crescent wrench was just being used to hold the washer in place.  I didn't have a washer large enough. 

An old brake pad was used to push the caliper down and then it was just a matter of keeping that nut still while you used a socket wrench to turn the bolt.  Worked fine.  Never would have thought of a caulk gun but I don't own one anyway.
