Right handed; but use left hand.
« on: March 11, 2012, 04:59:27 pm »
I have always brushed my teeth with my left hand. Someone pointed it out to me and I never really thought about it before.

Anyone else have any activity that you use your left hand when you should be using your right.

If you are left handed you don’t count, because I don’t know what that’s about.

right handed...

But i wear my watch (when i wear a watch) on my right hand.

Apparently people wear wristwatches on the opposite hand to prevent damage.

and yes i'm not currently wearing my watch because it's broken.

I am predominantly Right Handed, but I wear my watch on the right wrist.  I have broken many watches doing this, but it doesn't feel right on my left hand.  As for things I do left handed instead of right.  I smoke with my left hand, I hold coffee with my left hand, I usually text with my left hand too. Oh and I have been told I hold my knife and fork the wrong way round.  But I blame my parents for all of this as they are both left handed/ambidextrous.

I've had a few people point out to me when I do certain things wrong handed. I shuffle cards opposite of most right handed people and often eat with my fork/spoon in my left hand.

Beat me to it!  :lol

Im a drummer, and when I first started out as a kid, my drum teacher told me to do stuff with my left hand that I normally do with my right, just to get acclimiated to the drums. Now I brush my teeth with my left, cook food, all sorts of things with my left. Still write with my right, throw and wear my watch on my left hand though.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

I had an injury in my right shoulder and found left mousing worked better. Now it seems to work better for things in general.

With utensils, I got tired of switching hands between cutting and forking, so I learned how to fork and spoon with my left.

Almost all right handed people will put their glove on their left hand, catch the baseball with their left hand so they can throw the baseball with their right hand.

So you can't play baseball or do you catch the ball with your right hand, take off your glove, and then throw it?

Green Giant, yeah i can catch a baseball ok with a mitt on but its like LilShawn says above me, most of the time its like my left arm doesnt know how to bend the right way.  guess i can chalk it up to never training myself to be more ambidextrous, my left arm just doesnt have the muscle memory to do certain actions properly  :dunno

you're supposed to sit on your hand till its numb for that.

I use chop sticks lefty flip, I can also throw darts with both hands. Not sure if it counts but I can drive a right hand drive 5 speed with no issues either (shifting with my left hand)

I found that this wasn't a problem either...it was wierd for perhaps the first minute and then I didn't notice a difference.
Judging the distence to the left side of the car however took me a bit more time. :dizzy:

I write left-handed but do many things with either.  When I was a kid they tried to make me play baseball left-handed and it was frustrating.  While I can catch with both hands I really can't throw with my left at all.  I remember catching with a left-handed glove and then taking it off to throw.   ;D

I cut a finger on my left-hand recently and found that I cannot brush my teeth with my right-hand comfortably.  Drove me bananas.

Is it anal if you turn your hand around backwards?

Only if you wash it compulsively and make sure the nails are each trimmed perfectly and your cuticles are.... oh wait... I get it

On the flipside, I have changed gears in a left hand drive in Canada no probs...

I may have mentioned this before, but I worked with a woman who was truly ambidextrous. I said 'sure, everyone says that but all they mean is they can kick a football with both feet'. She then proceeded to demonstrate. She wrote with her left hand. Then just as neatly, with her right. Then she wrote with both hands at the same time in the same direction. Then with both hands, from the middle outwards, her left hand writing in mirror image! Now THAT is true ambexterity  :o

She can also write upside down, and doodle with one hand while writing notes with the other...

I remember watching a video on that in psychology class. The guy could write like that because his brain was split in half and both sides were working independently – one for each arm.

Are UK and Euro cars completely flipped, or just the shifter? I'd probably be okay left shifting, but throttling with my left and clutching with my right might be scary.

Actually the American setup is the proper setup.  You are literally on the "right" side of the road all the time.  ;)

Seriously though, Henry Ford's mass production techniques lead to cars getting into the hands of the masses, which lead to some of the earliest traffic laws.  We can't help it that the rest of the world does everything we tell them to do backwards.  ;)

US cars just have the drivers seat on the wrong side. All controls are the same as far as possible (other than obviously a central gear shift). It would be insane to change throttle and clutch around. I've seen pictures of some cars in the US that had the drivers seat on the right. One might have been a Stutz. No one had a clear idea until the 20's which side it should be.

If the road's divided, there is no other side till you have to cross it. Pulling up to a building is the same as driving downtown. Traffic lights are the same.

Sounds borderline Siamese to me.

Are UK and Euro cars completely flipped, or just the shifter? I'd probably be okay left shifting, but throttling with my left and clutching with my right might be scary.
He brings up a good question.

Over there in the UK and the screwy Euro countries, what foot do you use to accelerate/brake with and what foot shifts?

I don't even understand all of you crazy foreigners.  Some countries in Europe have the wheel on the correct side of the car, the left side.  Italy is one I know from experience does it the right way, the American way.

Ok, I learned a little more about our screwed up British cousins.

Turns out that driving on the left-side of the road is a dieing breed created by the British Empire and Japanese Empire.  Since both empires fell many countries under them switched from left to right.  Sadly almost noone went right to left.

Silly brits.

I had a right hand drive honda del sol manufactured for the Brit market.  The tree was set up with 1st being in the upper left position (same as in the US spec) and the turn indicators and wipers were flipped, turn indicators on the right hand side of the column and wipes on the left towards the center of the vehicle... or mirror of what US spec is.  Clutch Brake Gas were in that order left to right.  I loved that car but threw a rod on the autobahn outside of Munich.  Most of Europe drives on the left, US, French, Swede, and Deutcher cars have the same interior layout with the exception I've found to be where they hide Reverse on the tree.

Left handed, right eyed, cheap and Irish immigrant parents.

Anything that requires sight over strength I use my right hand. (Shooting, archery...)

Right handed guitars are cheaper, so that's how I play.

My parents knew nothing about baseball, but it's an American sport so they signed me up for little league and bought me the first glove they saw. It ended up being a glove for right handed people. I didn't know any better so I just used it. Needless to say I sucked at baseball. On top of that I developed right handed throwing habits so now when I throw the ball with my left hand I end up stepping out with the wrong foot. (like a girl)

Yeah, it's not a lot of fun driving someone's 928 when they're screaming "Reverse is where First is supposed to be" every time you come to a stop.

 :P

Yeah, or when you have to do a combination of tricks which may or may not include, pressing down on the stick, depressing a hidden button on the side of the stick, depressing a foot switch under the brake, and/or rolling down the window while turning on a blinker to get the damn things to actually go into reverse.  Then when some smug ---uvula--- comes and rescues you he's all like, "Hey retard, all you had to do was these three random things at once"  :banghead: :banghead: Damn peugots.

I'd probably let you drive my 928....because I probably wouldn't own one. A Ferarri, now...and I wouldn't let almost anyone drive it.
