Just cheap flat black works perfectly in my experience.. I did this recently for my old cab before selling it and it came out beautiful. Regular scotch brand blue painters tape seems to work just fine and not bleed, just run your fingernail along the edge just before you paint to make sure you have a good seal. The "fine edge" stuff should work even better, and if you have super fine details, you can always turn to automotive edge tape. Be sure to remove the tape before the paint is cured (dry to the touch but slightly tacky still) or you will end up pulling paint up with the tape.
In the past I have used a cut vinyl sticker to mask plexi.. just a reverse of whatever I am painting, stick it on and after painting, peel it off and the detail is fantastic. Small lettering might require a razor edge to take off, but with patience it works out great.
And as mentioned, ALWAYS paint the back side, not the front.
