After a bit of adjustment to get the monitor at the correct level, it's now operational.

Oh man we are at the death point of the project!

This the point where the building ends and the testing begins.  :time bomb:

I hope you make it to the other side!

Really enjoying this project.  First class, man.

Thanks Generic. Hopefully it will be a fully operational and complete racin' station soon!

Me too wirenut. I don't want this to languish in the realms of half-completedness

That's unsettling. It's like a spider, stalking it's prey.  :lol Is that gonna be off center like that?

I'll never look at it in the same way again! It's off centre as it comes with a receiver which attaches to the side of headphones. To work optimally, it's best to point it directly at the receiver. Having it centred would work but just not as well.

Just one display?   :-\ ...ok.

 ;)

For now ;)

Build an enclosure for it that's reminiscent of the off center roof air scoops you see on some race cars?  ??? Or just a larger air scoop enclosure that is most the width of the display and hide both that and a center channel speaker inside...?

Dude, your build is godly to me, so I'm sure you've already thought of a plan.  ;D

Thanks ChanceKJ  I'd been thinking about this and do plan to integrate it into the build. I have a few ideas but have plenty to do before I finally decide. An air scoop type affair is something I'd been considering.

I decided to give myself a day off from building and have some fun in the Pod - with Assetto Corsa and the Buttkickers firing, it's a truly enjoyable experience.

I like the enclosure idea as well but rather than an air scoop, you could set it up like the hood tachometers they used to have on old Pontiacs.

Thanks for that jbenesh, it's an interesting and cool looking idea  The main challenge for me is going to be how to integrate this with the monitor mount itself whilst keeping the monitor vents clear and retaining a degree of adjustability of the TrackIR receiver.

Well, I continue to make progress ... of sorts. This side piece is proving to be problematic. This is the 4th time I've had to re-fill and sand. Hopefully this is the last time:

I really want to get on with the air intake.

Yep, definitely something to consider, emphatic.

Finished it and am satisfied:

I will coat it in polyurethane tomorrow and then start cutting the mesh, artwork and acrylic.

First (of 4) side pieces shaped. These have been over-cut to better integrate with the build. I will be using a similar approach to the side-pieces on the shifter pod:

Certainly not Generic. You get the mouse pad with a single order. You need to purchase 5 to get the cap.

All 4 panels have now been cut:

I will need to trim some of this back at the top to allow the dash to be fitted properly.

Started cutting the side sections for the dashboard. This will extend beyond the side panels on the front an make it wider to accommodate more buttons etc. there will also be a space behind it and those side panels for more air ducting. It will also enable me to create an angled dash so the outer part will be slightly closer for me to reach:

It's my wife's birthday today  and I need to get some building in before we go out ...

All 4 panels for the side of the dash have now been cut, sanded and trimmed:

I need to figure out what type of inlay I want for these ...

Edit:

Just to give an idea concerning the spacing / air vent metioned earlier:

It will give a more 3 dimensional look to the build.

The only thing you should apologize for is using another site to host the photos.   >:D

If your Photobucket account ever, umm,  kicks the bucket, there will be much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, with some sackcloth and ashes probably thrown for good measure.    :badmood:

That would be a catastrophe for sure - I do have 2 backups of all my pictures though. Uploading and reorganising would, admittedly, be a royal pain. I'll be sure to upload some completed pictures on this site once done and link a local copy.

Surely you'll be wiki-fing this at some point eh?  Downloadable pdf on how you can make your very own SpaceHedgehog pod?

In all seriousness, do you have a count of how many sheets you have used to this point?

If there's enough interest, I may well do that Generic. As to the number of sheets, I've lost count! I will be able to go back and work it out - I generally have a fairly good memory when it comes to those sorts of things.

Got my head down and completed the router work for the outside front panels:

Community feedback time. Honest views would be gratefully received.

One idea which I'm undecided on is the configuration of the aluminium bars for the side panels. Which do you think looks better?

Two and none:

If you want to wikify this build like Felsir did for Ond's Metropolis, it is an easy and secure server for uploading pics.

At a minimum, I'd like to add this build as an entry and sub-page on the Driving/Cockpit cabinets page (Any other good examples to add there?) and perhaps even use it as a tutorial for advanced design, build, and finishing techniques.

I like the 1 and 1.

2 in each would probably look too busy.
I saw the opportunity to make the reference and couldn't help myself.  ;)
