I never saw this in the wild.   My youngest daughter found this game and loves it!   We play it together a lot.   The music can kind of get to you.   I have never seen the cab until I was posting this, it's kind of cool looking.

Level 10.

Speed bonus is 20,000 for finishing in < 20s. Huge points! And getting all birds on bonus stage is another 10k.

On level 10, look out for the tasty little green grub worm thing. He's not a snack, he's deadly.

Pretty cute game. Kind of Joust + Mappy.

Nice score!

On the first level the fastest time I've ever had is 11 seconds.   I would be interested to know if anyone can break the 10 second mark and what the bonus is.

Great game pick.

I thought Id mention, a lesser known, but incredibly great & innovative Sega game called  "Ninja Princess"... would be another excellent pick for the future.

I'll have to try that this evening.

Can anyone enlighten me on why this is a Sega game but it was distributed by Bally/Midway?   I was looking at the flyer here and that's when I noticed that.

Not sure that I can reach Tafoid's score but I am getting closer.

299,090 (Round 21)

Creating a pattern for yourself is probably the most important thing.   I consistently get max points thru the first 12-15 rounds then it's just a made dash for chicks so my bonus for time is much smaller.   That is where Tafoid must be making up the difference cause I would have to average close to 25k a round from here to get to Tafoid.

I'm going to start posting my times for each round.  Here are the ones I remember

1 (11)
2 (16)
4 (18)

You know, I haven't even loaded the game up yet, but I think I may be outmatched with all this talk of "the first 12-15 rounds".
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Well... they should only take 15-25 seconds a round    :)

Well just a quick update...

My new score is 366,640 (I think that was thru round 24).   I had a game started where I made it to round 24 with the first guy but ended on 27 with only 340k.   Not sure I can make it to Tafoid's score.

For those interested here is a of the first 21 rounds.   I had to cut off rounds 22-26.   If anyone is interested in the other 5 let me know.   After I reviewed it I noticed you can't really see the score very well.

Anyway, finished with 380,110 (round 26).   Took me just short of 13 minutes.

Hope this helps someone, Good luck!

I got to round 32 for the first time.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this:

On one of the screens (don't remember which one) just as I was getting to the elevator a woman shows up at one of the windows.   There is a sound affect that goes along with this which is the only reason I recognized it.   This is not the creature that shows up in one of the windows if you take too long to complete the round.

Probably due to distribution in the US and Sega likely distributed for the Japanese market.  Namco did a lot of that early, Bally/Midway being the recipient of many of it's titles for US market.

On one of the screens (don't remember which one) just as I was getting to the elevator a woman shows up at one of the windows.   There is a sound affect that goes along with this which is the only reason I recognized it.   This is not the creature that shows up in one of the windows if you take too long to complete the round.

I've read lot of theories surrounding this.  I do know firsthand it can only happen starting first in Round 10 once every 8 rounds thereafter (18, 26, 34, 42, 50, etc).  The animation/sound effect plays and you get 'bonus' points - but the condition of getting these points is open to much mystery.  Some people feel getting a certain score before a round is a something that is needed to trigger it whereas some believe the chicks must be collected in a certain order.

Back in the 80's when I played this in the arcade, I used to be able to trigger it commonly through regular play and never thought much about how it was triggered.  Now though, I'm either dying too much, collecting chicks differently or maybe I just don't muster up the required scores..

I was able to hit the first one today which gives you extra bonus (on Round 10)

You can see the woman there, she waves as you hear the sound effects and additional score is added.  Different characters show up on different screens.  In Round 18, if memory serves, Pengo appears.   The initial value is pretty small, I think 10k but in the later rounds if you can trigger them, we are talking BIG points - like 1 MILLION!
