Aimtrak Update and request for help
« on: May 03, 2010, 08:28:40 am »
Update:

The gun housings exist in prototype form but production not yet started. This is taking far longer than expected, the main reason being the manufacturers decided to move factory just before production was due to start. Promised date is 15th May but they have missed many deadlines before.

Pictures below.

There is a new version of the AimTrak config utility available for download on http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak.html

This has a new tabbed interface which reduces clutter.
Major change is the addition of a graphical display which shows the IR LED as seen by the gun sensor. This is used to troubleshoot calibration and other issues. The calibration can be done with this display showing.

Request for help:

Having less and less time these days to actually use our products rather than just design them, I am finding I am having trouble answering requests for help in getting the gun(s) configured in Mame.

There is much good info on this forum, spread around various threads, and I suspect many people have also found other tricks and tips which are not mentioned here.
I am looking for someone who could put together a complete guide for Mame configuration with the gun, for adding to our website.
If anyone wants to have a go, drop me an email at andy@ultimarc.com. There will be a pair of complete guns waiting for a contributor, and this could be more than one person.

I would imagine so.  They don't need drivers -- works on my Windows 7 64 bit with no problem.

The guns work great in XP x64. The configuration utility works great in XP x64. The Firmware Updater does not work in XP x64. But you can perform the firmware upgrade on a 32-bit machine, and then use the utility on the 64-bit one. That is exactly what I did.

What I'm most pleased about is the obvious design based on my favourite gun the G-Con. If the fine spots get ironed out, Point Blank here I come!

for non cab user's with fancy lcd screens straight up possible to also get a black casing for the led pcb where it is in a black case and the only thing that can be seen outside is the sensor leds and cable out of the rear?

plain pcb out in the open looks kinda silly and figured if your going to make gun case's why not make a led pcb case too for the non cab user's that just want some nice pc guns.

put the lcd topguns to rest

It seems like wrong to have just cloned the Namco Guncon but removed the Copyright and Trademark logos, plus the PlayStation and Namco logos.

+5,000,000!!

I am ever so close to buying my own set of Guncons and modding them on my own. I am too impatient for this hobby sometimes!  ;D

ANY update would be appreciated, Andy.

....but also oh so right. I've never used a better gun, and this design's now defunct, so what's the harm?

Actually, let's not even go there today. I'm bored of legal discussions, just enjoy!

I still get Guncon1's at EBGames though admittidly very rarely.

But I must ask, can these shells be used as replacement shells on Guncons?  Is the internal mountings matching of the Guncon1?

OK I will explain the very poor excuse for not getting this released. Two people on this forum helped immensely with this and its all done.

Since upgrading to Office 2010 I find that I can no longer create PDFs as no versions of Adobe Acrobat are compatible with Office 2010. You know what Steve Jobs was absolutely correct when he said Adobe are a lazy company. They still dont even have a version of Flash player which works with 64 bit browsers either.

Yes I know I can save a PDF file format in Word 2010. But the results are poor, nothing like the quality of the output of Acrobat.

But this is a very bad excuse as I do have another PC with Office 2003 and acrobat on it. I will copy it across.

Yes, and Yes.

Divemaster seems to have them in stock http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=47066.msg1103250#msg1103250

didn't see them on Andy's site (at least where to order them) though
