Freakin' Cold
« on: December 17, 2008, 09:34:03 am »
This morning was 5 degrees with a windchill of -7.  Now,  that is the coldest it's been here in the "ho" since I've lived here.   I know for some of you polar bears 5 degrees is downright toasty...but for this ex-So. Cal fool 5 degrees is FREAKIN' COLD!

We're getting our first (and possibly only) snowfall of the season right now.  It's currently 7am and still snowing pretty good and I'm hoping to stays cold enough to keep the snow around for at least a day, although it's unlikely.

I would love to have a foot of snow for Christmas! I get the feeling we'll get a foot before this winter is over. We are due for sure.

It hit 32 during the night. I just had some pipes in the wall repaired and the damn dog ate the insulation.

I stuck the dog in the wall to prevent the pipes from freezing, but I'll have to hit up Lowes before the GF starts to complain.

You should live in the North of England, as it gets bitter cold in the winter.

You can always get another house in Mexico and winter there.  ;D

Woohoo, it's still snowing here and I just got back from the last appointment I had set for this week, so I get to stay at home and watch the snow build up for the first time   :)

There was virtually no snow here last year and before that I lived where it pretty much never snowed, so even though its only at around 5 inches snow so far, it's far more snow then I've ever had and theres no signs of it stopping until tommorrow.  Of course the rarity of snow here meant that I got to see lots of accidents on the freeway this morning (all minor fender benders from what I could see) including one car spinning out in the lane next to me.  The fools don't seem to understand slamming on the breaks is a bad idea in this kind of weather.

Thats cold, but it does occasionally get colder. Every year we usually see a few overnights of -40, and day time highs of like -20. We've had less of that over the last decade of course (thanks to Al Gore and his damn climate change). :)

There has to be some members here from like Winnipeg, or parts even further North into Canada, or Alaska where the temps have got to be even colder.

It kinda warmed up here because of cloud cover, and it hasn't gotten to freezing yet, but those same clouds initially brought in some wet and we had snow on the mountains from it (though not below probably 5000 feet).

(The picture below is not a current one, just an example of what mountains I'm talking about.)

Right now it's about 78 F outside. Quite chilly actually because it's rainy season. In the summer it's consistently above 90  8)

Wow, it's still snowing like crazy and it's starting to get dark, so it'll probably snow for most of the night (storm is suppose to pass tonight sometime).  We've gotten well over a foot now and will probably have at least 2 feet of snow by tommorrow.

Well here in the Low Lands its never cold. Half Europe, including most of Spain and the Po delta in Italy is suffering from snow these weeks, but here the North Sea keeps defrosting the air all winter long. Our famous 200km ice-skate marathon the 11 city run, will probably never be held again. Funny to hear someone complain about colds in England. Well England profits even more from the hot tub around them.

Still got some good snow on the mountains. This was yesterday, though the cloud cover last night kept it there through today. I should make a trip up there just to play. Curious, the green-leaved trees in the fore-ground, eh?

Been freezing in the seattle metro area for the past week or so.  We usually get a short bout of near freezing temps, but for it to be below freezing for more than a few days in a row is a once in a decade event.  It hasn't been above freezing for more than a few hours all week, and we're expecting another doozy of a storm tonite with high winds and a chance of 4-12" of snow in the metro area.

I'm from snow country so I like it and can handle the weather and roads, but damn it's funny seeing folks who get their panties in a twist when it snows hit the roads......
