Is this a decent pickup?

Seriously, I want opinions on this before I go and borrow money to get it.  I LOVE the Pac-Man mini design.  Ad says not working, so would need to repair...

Fair price. You better hurry, though, it won't last long. I know some guys in the East Valley who are probably already on it.

You should already have it. Worth it for the cab and parts.   Plus I would  like to see more restores around here.

Ad is gone so can't see the price.

It's usually not a good idea to borrow money to buy old toys, though.

it was 275.   Borrowing some scratch till payday is acceptable so long as you pay it back and quickly.

Well, I hope Slippy got it, but I know a lot of the local guys have apps for Craigslist that notify them about these things immediately. If he didn't get it, I'll find out who did.

Yep, same here.  Within 30 mins a feeding frenzy ensues.  Low ball offers fly in every direction followed immediately by finger pointing on who back doored whose deal and who may have actually had an agreement.  Etc etc etc.

I'd actually point out, to newbies who read this post in the future, just go pick it up. Don't bring more attention to the ad by asking people if it's a good deal. Go buy it, then worry if you got a good deal on it or not. But if it's something you really want, just go get it. Even if it wasn't a good deal, if you really wanted it, it's yours, right?

Heh, that too.  Market value is only part of the price.  The other part is whether or not it's worth that amount to you.  There are a hundred titles out there for which I would never pay market value.  There are a few I'd pay twice market value and not bat an eye.

No, I didn't get it.  Couldn't come up with the money.  Oh well.

I REALLY need to start a savings jar for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- like this, they come up once in a while.  New financial situation is coming up which will actually allow that.

Last bit of advice.  Don't sweat that.  There is always another game that will come up.  Especially if you're not looking for a specific title.

I don't think you missed out on anything.  Because it's an oddball "unpopular" cabinet like that I think 275 was a fair price but I wouldn't go beyond that.  You weren't getting a deal or anything.

I've been looking for a good cutting layout for that cab for a while.  I'd love several dedicated machines in that shape.

I hear you, the only game I really want that I don't have is a 720, and for a while there people were saying hey, I could hook you up with one, but I never had the amount they wanted on hand. I started slowly building a war chest of cash just in case it ever comes up.

I'm more out of space than anything.  I would probably make room for a TNG pinball or a really nice dedicated mk II cab though.

If you don't have any savings there is no way in hell you should be considering borrowing money for something as frivolous as an arcade machine.

Even as someone who is financially responsible and lives well below his means, I could argue against this statement.  No such thing as frivolous when it comes to a passion.

Well food, shelter and taking care of one's obligations needs to take priority.  I don't think the statement was meant that way though.  There is money saved and then there is money for cabs and misc junk.  I have a savings, but that can't be spent on unimportant things.  Extra money is for that.

Exactly.  I was trying to respond in a way that wasn't angry and knee jerk, but was failing.  I'm fully talking about a savings for the hobby, not other ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Fair enough.  I definitely came across too harsh.   I went thru a period where I was living paycheck to paycheck and had no disposable income and I wouldn't have borrowed money from friends or family for something that wasn't a necessity.

It's usually not a good idea to borrow money to buy old toys, though.

I disagree.  You should experience stupid decisions in your life.  How are you ever going to learn from mistakes.  I would have borrowed the money about $1000 from advance payday, restore the cab and sell it for $500 easy.  I am sure it will take a couple of months to pay it off, but hey, how is advance payday supposed to pay its staff?   Your wife will love you for it.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
