Had a crap week so far.

spent a pile of bucks on a replacement board for a game...played a bunch of games on it last week...turned it off over the weekend...doesn't boot monday....hardware failure.

farted around all day monday and tuesday trying to figure out WTF is going on...decided to step away from the machine before I go all 9/11 on it.

Decide today instead of the clapped out chihiro I'm gonna fix a Golf game with a D9200 monitor that has a minor squashed vertical deflection issue... replace 3 caps near the vertical IC no biggie happens all the time. replaced a cooked horizontal yoke connector while i'm in there.... gawddamn thing won't startup now.  :banghead: octuple checked polarity of the caps...replaced them again...replced the vertical IC. nope.

*SIGH*

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Does that mean you are going to slam a planeload of innocent people into it-- then watch as the survivors jump to their death rather than face being burned alive?

I'm not even american and I raised an eyebrow on that one....

Sorry about your day LOL
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

Well, yesterday my boss slid a piece of paper across my desk and proudly asked me to guess what is was...
Turns out it's my new salary which he thought was a raise, but is actually $1,100 less than I made last year.

This is almost as good as the time that he handed me my paycheck and didn't state, but only implied it included a raise.
The take home pay was higher, but it was because the retirement contributions had been reduced.  :lol

It's a dysfunctional game we play.
He sneaks the  paid holidays off my vacation time (which I'm too busy to take anyway) and I come into work 20 minutes late every day in to make up for it.
I pretend not to notice.  He pretends not to notice.  I'm salaried, so it doesn't affect my pay.

I'm way past the point of caring.
The only thing keeping me here is the money and that I don't want all of my work dumped on my co-workers who are also already overworked.
Been on the verge of walking out recently, but can't seem to get ---my bottom--- in gear to just find another job ahead of time and give my 2 weeks notice like a responsible adult.
I feel like I need the blow-up of a walkout.

I hear that man.  sorry bout the salary. nobody wants that.

Last raise I got, I gave myself... by tweaking my tax deductions to pay less income tax. i'm hoping with things the way they are here in alberta, I'm not looking at a cut myself.

It should still work out come tax time, I really should pay no income tax on my pay. I still get deducted a little. Don't get me wrong, I get paid the work I do... but for someone who's keeping things afloat (the best I can given the circumstances in this province right now) you still gotta grease the wheels if you know what I mean. been working my butt of diversifying our services and products to keep the doors open, the lights on and my pay checks coming.

but still, going on 9 years at this joint... has to account for something.  :dunno

ah well. I got the D9200 fixed anyway.  ;D

Since this is now the "My Job Sux!!!" Thread...

A few years ago I pretty much had my realistic dream job - Technology Director at the only school I've ever worked at. My wife says I was probably one of the people she knew who woke up ever morning truly loving his job.

Then somebody had this great idea to consolidate technical support, basically taking the responsibility away from the campuses (7 in my district) and administering it all from the District Office. They pitched this plan to an administration which knew nothing about technology, and the powers that be bought it hook, line, sinker, you name it.

3 years later, stuff doesn't work. Teachers are unhappy and can't do things that weren't an issue before. I'm grossly underutilized - in fact, I just spent this morning finished a campus inventory - which would be fine, except I did pretty much the same exact thing a year ago.

I've go like 7 years to retirement, but I'm pretty sure it will be spent back in the classroom and not doing the job I really loved. But that job is long gone, so I'm at peace with that.

I don't mind work, or working hard - I enjoy it. What I hate, to quote Morrissey, is that I have to give valuable time to people who I'd much rather kick in the eye.

I worked a job I loved for 9 years.. not only was it my hobby before becoming a professional, it nailed my interests dead on.  The morning I woke up and didn't want to go to work was the start of the last time I worked that job - either professionally or as a hobby.  I went from loving what I did (looking forward to getting back to work the next day) to just having no desire to ever do it again..  I took a job with my family's business and never looked back.  Do I "love" my job?  No, but it is incredibly tolerable and some days even satisfying, and I make good money doing it.

I have found more often than not that how I feel about work is more reflective of the other stuff going on in my life (or rather the satisfaction level of my life outside the office) than it is about the job itself.  Sometimes jobs just suck, but sometimes a job sucks because everything about life sucks and it just needs to follow along with the suckage.

Sorry you are having a bad week.  I could relate my week to you but frankly it doesn't matter, and despite all the crap I somehow managed to maintain a positive outlook on it all.

sorry bout the salary. nobody wants that.

oh...I'm not taking a pay cut.  It's not within the realm of things that I'll allow to happen (despite tolerating all kinds of other crazy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- )
I regretfully made a comment along the lines of "well I guess I'll see what my take home pay is now".
It has me worried that he's going to reduce my withholding to make my take home pay larger in hopes of tricking me into thinking I got a good raise.  ::)

I didn't ask for and wasn't expecting a raise.
I'm burnt out.  Money don't fix burnout.
It might make you tolerate it longer, but that's it.

I've go like 7 years to retirement,

Seven years to retirement! :applaud:  Yots is either an old dude or started out as a teacher right out of college.

I also work in public education. I just checked my retirement statement and I am eligible for retirement in 2040.  :laugh2:

Token-

I'm only 42, but I started working full-time in schools while still in college, so I started contributing to the AZ Retirement system at age 20, instead of 23 like most Straight Outta College teachers (of which I was one). That gives me an extra 6 points toward my years of service, meaning I can retire at age 50.

The 66 locations with 5000 phones  I maintain crashed Monday afternoon.  No phones, no voice mail, no attendant consoles, no call recording, no current backups.  I almost cried, LOL.  And, Hans Gruber is dead!  It has been a crappy week.
What is that pappy?

All this naff is harshing what little chuff I have left.

Everyone enjoy this video of Mr. Rogers learning about arcade games.

I would also recommend at least one episode of Bob Ross a week.  That certainly helps me.

Yeah I watched a lot of it, but he is still on PBS in most places believe it or not.  I watch him every Sunday.  I wish they had recorded his show on film so they could up it in HD.

I don't exactly advertise this, but I can paint pretty well, particularly landscapes.  I owe it all to Bob.

I wish I had some kind of talent like that...

I can't draw or paint. I've tried.

I can't play any musical instrument. As much as I enjoy music, my brain just can't coordinate these floppy things attached onto my torso, nor the bendy things on the end of the floppy things

I can't remember well enough to learn a new language, practical or programming. I needed a cheat sheet for BASIC...THEN THEY CHANGED IT.

I'm don't enjoy reading other than for reference and unless it's writing for IRL events, I have zero imagination when it comes to fiction.

I'm a hands on, analytical kinda person. I can problem solve because I understand how something works. If I have no idea how it works, I can't wrap my head around it. it's weird.

I can drive pretty good...I've thought about joining a local rally racing club.... but of all the vehicles I own, I currently own none that I'm willing to bomb around racing in, that I also don't need to get me to work on Monday. It's not exactly talent, but it's something I might be good at I suppose.
