Game - Ghosts'n Demons

A fan made sequel to Ghosts ‘n Goblins using open bor. looks like it will make a nice addition to a cab.

Check your .pak file: it must be placed in the correct folder to run!

This could be a sekured mod: do you see a .sek file (or something like that, it's long time I have stopped developing OBOR mods...)?

2 files:
Ghosts'nDemons.exe
gnd.cfg  (in folder saves)

3 folders:
screenshots (Empty)
saves (gbd.cfg)
logs (empty)

why not download it yourself.

it's looking for a .pak file (it's not included in the package). So it should not work on any OS's.

Deleted mine already.

The dinguses packed the game with molebox, a program that combines dlls and game assets into a single exe to prevent theft of the assets.  The only problem is molebox doesn't work on windows 8 or 10.  Also why would you try to protect a fan-made game with assets pirated from the original?

Try sourcing out the pak file on chronocrash(.com?). Maybe they asked the admin to sekure the .pak, that refused being not 100% original work. The authors then went the molebox route.
As far as i know there's only one openBOR game that passed the 100% original check: golden axe myth.

So I played the game over the course of a few days.  Overall the gameplay is quite good.  I think they've nailed the feel of a GnG game pretty well.  The only problem is they've nail the feel of GnG pretty well.... so I can't get very far in the game and I'm guessing the average player won't either.

Also the video settings are screwed up, so it'd be nice if they fixed that.  I've got a 1600x900 monitor.... the game won't fill the screen.  It actually crashes if I try to set the gameplay size beyond the default 2x.  So I assumed that maybe it was the 1600x900 resolution... plugged in my 1080p tv.... nope, still crashes because instead of displaying the game at 1920x1080 it does 1920x1088, which most hdtvs don't support through the hdmi port.

I think a lot of the issues are a result of the BOR engine.  That thing is old and busted.  It's almost as bad as mugen.

That doesn't mean I don't like the game though.  I think it's very well done.  It's just that the technical limitations are quite annoying.

They used BOR, not OpenBOR (OBOR)? This would be weird since openbor is way improved (and frequently updated) with respect to the first release of the engine! It adds a script engine which is fundamental to avoid that all those games feel like the same game with different characters...

No, they used open bor, but it still has a lot of the old bor limitations, particularly with video modes.

Tried this out the other night.   Awesome work!

I Love the look and gameplay.   Just as hard, if not harder,  than the originals.

I think it took me like 2hrs to get past the first level.   >_<   lol     Thats pretty insane... then again, its been a long time since Ive poured effort into some serious gaming.

FYI - There are some new moves and features in the game:

(I actually decided to watch the instruction animations)

 - Pressing both buttons does some kind of dodge move.
 - If you are wearing armor,  you can jump and press downwards to stomp enemies
 - Doing the same stomp move with gold armor,  will make the hero stab down with a sword.
 - Besides the typical magican that can turn you into a frog (or something else)...  theres a girl that appears... and cast a temporary invincibility spell on you.    Love it!   Only catch?   When she starts to appear... it looks like the evil wizard.. and if you shoot her... shes gone.
 - Weapons are much more functional and cool than many of the original weapons.
 - There are like 3 kinds of chests.  I had a blue one pop up with an extra life.  Some give armor.  Some give weapons.
 - These something called a "Gesture" button. Im not sure what that does yet... and how it might effect something later in game.

Spent a little more time on this one.. breezed through the 1st level the first time around...

Level 2 isnt that bad...  but,  the end guardian is a real nasty one.

The 3rd level starts out with a boss from hell... and I have no idea how to deal with it for long, as of yet.

* Update

There are some secret moves not listed.   I saw them done on a vid... but no mention of how to do them.   I eventually figured them out:

Getting the Gold Armor,  you can do special moves with a Golden Sword that you can generate:

 - Press Up + Attack  for a stab
 - Press Up + Attack + Jump  = Dragon punch sword move
 - Jump + Down + Attack = Stab downwards attack.   You can use this continuously at time, by holding down and bouncing over and over again.

Note - The cross can shoot through some things.. like tombstones.  I believe can also erase enemy fire.
