The Most Awesome PS1 Games Ever Made
« on: June 20, 2014, 02:45:44 pm »
I'm not being lazy here but the above sticky is more DreamCast than PSX, and I would like to get a sample together before I go into Exile (college) that I can play on the tablet and the PC.  I have quite a few awesome originals, but I am looking for new ideas that will broaden my interests, considering the pure amount of what is available out there.  Most places I go to buy, I can snap them up for a buck, so help me out and advise me on the top 20 of your most awesome games for the PS1.  Thanks!  ;D
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Dead ball Zone - very similar to speedball 2,  Wasted too many hours on this one
Vagrant Story - This game just kept me coming back for more.  I was never going to be happy until the hero was all that he could be
Disney Magical Racing Tour - My wife got me playing this one, like Mario kart its great for a quick pick up and play.  (If you don't like disney then :dunno)
Bust A Groove - A very quick to learn rhythm game - I still find myself occasionally humming the tune "Shorty and the EZ mouse" or "2Bad"
Parasite Eve 1&2 - The first game is very much in the vein of Vagrant story, the 2nd much more like Resident evil.  Both in my mind exceptional, The first for the music and the 2nd for its graphics My jaw dropped when I first played Parasite Eve 2 and it went from flv into game and the reflections etc on the floor just blew me away.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Syphon Filter (1st or second, both pretty good)
Tenchu
Any of the Duke Nukem games, they're both the same really
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Valkyrie Profile
Dragon Quest VII
Parasite Eve
Soul Blade/Edge whatever they called it on PSX
Suikoden II (might need to pirate this one)
Vagrant Story
Mega Man X4
Bushido Blade
Twisted Metal 2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Im not listing arcade games, even SFA3 which has new features like WorldTour, obvious exception to the rule is Soul Edge above. Game is just too much fun and the "adventure mode" is the shumz

somewhat rare but also unique and cool in thier own setup as their is no others like them that I know of but I liked the deception series and clock tower is another weird intense one too lol.

def. worth grabbing if you never played them.

xenogears was a great game too like above but also as long as ffVII pretty much.

megaman legends and tron bonne were weird but good also but some liked them and some did not I did though

If you ever find Einhänder, it is a great game. It is a side scrolling shoot-em-up made by Squaresoft. Graphics still hold up and the music is really good. Although, it is a little rare though.

That reminds me, Zero Divide was a pretty fun robot fighting game, but it had a hidden game of Phalanx in it, which was pretty good side scrolling shooter. The SNES version is "famous" for its cover art of the old bearded guy with a banjo.

Knave: I didn't realize it was that rare. It came in a lot of other squaresoft games I bought in a huge bundle almost 1 year ago. :P

And i looked at your compiled list again Ark, and a couple other games came to mind.  Almost anything made by squaresoft was a hit on the
PS1 as well as most Capcom games. The Megaman X series is excellent on the PS1. (8 is a turd in my opinion)

Overall a very good list. Great list for anyone looking to explore the PS1, a little bit of ever genre on the list.

I was really into shooters, and for a while it was the grail.  It is a great PS1 game and a solid shooter by any console standard. I only wish it got the love that Ikaruga has gotten of late.

My favourites, one which is hyped (maybe overhyped) on the internet is Final Fantasy 7.
The other one I loved was Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. Love my turn-based strategy RPGs.

I loved X-Com on the PS1.  Obviously the PC port is much better, but I used to do my homework in high school during the crazy load times on the PS1 version of the game.  It may be hard to find now though...

No one said Resident Evil????

Resident Evil....
The first and second Resident Evil were some of my favs on the ps1. Resident Evil 3 wasn't bad either. Not as good as the first two but I still enjoyed it.

I love the Winning Eleven saga!
Please, is it possible to collect all games in the first post?

Thanks in advance.

Saneless did mention it, but I agree. I am surprised it didn't get much love on this thread.
