Mamer site has been updated it seems July 9th. You're lucky you've joined up on the same day DickTurpin ;-)

No download links or anything though but looks interesting.

I noticed he deleted all his posts in the 'Build Your Own Front End' thread. What happened?

Yeah, that guy took his football and went home.

I think he was using some obscure programming language to program a frontend. I hope he's not using that anymore...

Right. Put the record straight. :burgerking:

'In The Real World' I had a very bad day. I posted some reply's in Happy 4th To Our American Cousins
and got quite a bit of stick. I thought stuff this. . And gave someone a bit of stick back.

I changed my email to a random so I didn't get updates every five minutes for the rest of the day while working. Trying to get lots done at the moment, there is a large scale Online TBS in the works, the Front End a couple of friend's websites and of course the 'Mamer' website itself.

I tried to get back into my account, and couldn't. So I used my email to set up this account. I didn't come out with it because I like to have a laugh.
I use this site as light relief and to learn about arcade cabs which I find mightily cool. Despite my job.

I am back now (hopefully) for good. I backed up my tutorial and was intending to try to get it stick-ied when I had cleaned it up. Which I was doing when I thought, sod it.

Opt2Not asked me if I was committed to this community and I am what knowledge I have I happily share.
I don't know it all which is why I ask a lot of questions because I like to learn.

Chopper- Good Day. Not only is Mamer a town in Luxembourg. (US that's a country in Europe)
The second definition was where I took the name,

2.    Mamer

A videogamer who uses the emulator known as MAME (Multipe Arcade Machine Emulator)
I agree with my fellow MAMEr's that street fighter II will always be the greatest fighing game.

Personally I do not concur with that statement, the greatest fighting game that has ever been will always be Rise of the Robots  :laugh2:

Do you really want to come back with an apparent insult to our American friends about their geographic knowledge (especially after telling them that they were all British)?

Maybe it was just a helpful hint for us N Americans who have states/provinces bigger than most European countries.

Chef give it a rest. I put that as a tongue in cheek remark because I know that a lot of Americans are not as stupid as the rest of the world gives them credit for.

Am I right in thinking that Canada has the biggest land border in the world?

ProTip: if you want people to understand that you have your tongue in your cheek, especially after you went all ahigh,  use a smiley -- we have a nice assortment to choose from.

Am I right in thinking that Canada has the biggest land border in the world?

I'd be surprised if we made the top 10 ( the fact we aren't #1 is pretty obvious since we only border the US and then they have that whole thing with Mexico).

The US/Canada border is the longest between two countries, in terms of the biggest land border period, that's debatable....The problem is it's usually some weird ex-communist republic and they change their borders at the drop of the hat.

Atm it's probably Kazakhstan..... NIIIIIICE!

But ignoring the weird countries like that it's usually mother Russia... who used to claim most of these new republics.

But it's extremely debatable... some countries have a border that's technically very long, but it's long because it goes all squiggly.

That is like Canada being the Capitol of Canada.

We avoided that by calling our capitol Canadaville. It helps with the possible confusion.

Visual Studio Express is free, it supports C#, VB.Net and C++ and is a lot less obscure and extremely well documented.

But to get back on topic...what are you using to develop mamer?

C++ C and Lua for scripting. It puzzles me why it matters to you? as that was not the topic.

To a degree. Microsoft C++ isn't the same as 'Real World C++' , Microsoft anything is always very 'Microsoft-y' and anyone who knows what I mean knows what I mean.

The point was to keep it simple.

Most of the people interested in it had never programmed before. I am an experienced coder.
I don't need to justify my methods to you or anyone else.

In truth I found it difficult to bite size / simplify concepts and if you can do better then more power to your arm.

If you can do a complete Front End tutorial with C++ or even the awful Microsoft abomination that is C# and do it in beginner friendly manner then I commend not only your skills but your tenacity.

I use C++ currently but previously have used a multitude of languages-  sometimes together.  Everything from Microsoft Basic - 6502 Machine Code and Assembler to C. Mainly for games in the early 90s. Then C++ but I don't rule out anything even Dark Basic Pro if it has the command set to do what I want and on that front when looking about for a beginner friendly tool it was unbeatable in that respect--

Nice friendly IDE, examples a plenty. Full command help at a click of the f1 key. Instant compile and exe creation.

I stared coding games in the late 80s. On the Specrum and C64 in Basic. I learnt assembler and Machine Code and I do not understand anyone being all snooty about the language or platform someone is using and I commend anyone on their efforts and end results.

Programming is not easy in any language and I give someone a pat on the back for giving it a go.

If someone codes a great game in DBP , C , C++ or Visual Basic even - which is possible I would say well done crack on. You might not know that DBP has full support for machine code and C++ itself.

If anyones interested on the C++ debate. I recommend DevC++

No the point of the topic was that you were googling for a frontend and found the frontend you are working on yourself  ??? and pretended that was a surprise.

I think you are trying to create interest in your frontend which is a good thing and I was wondering about the technical side of the frontend. Other people may be more interested in the functional side of things.

No, you don't, but if someone is interested you could just answer the question in a more tactfull way.

I like to use Python for dev wherever possible,  it's free, popular, cross-platform and very accessible.  Can't remember the last time I paid for development tools.  I like to steer clear of MS, if I can, but that is personal preference.  Never heard of Dark Basic Pro but I've been a fan of Basic language in the past,  from the days of BBC Basic and Sinclair Basic.
Dark Basic Pro is free to download but appears to be supported by advertisements so would need to pay up $  to remove them and $ to gain access to some of the game development libraries.

Yes true. Fair points.
Lots of people have used it so the obscure threw me.

I would call it a bridge. Somewhere between C and Basic. Its an advanced basic for sure. Some people have written (granted not commerical standard) FPS games in it and it has Direct X9 support built in. Which is remarkable that they kept the syntax so straight and similar to basic

Also degenatrons its ad free. Once you register with you click a link and then get your code. Unlock it with the code and that's it no ads whatsoever. Just code away.

Python is something I always wanted to get stuck into and have a go at when I had a chance. Not had that chance yet but I still want to.
