I was expecting to see some CoryBee in the serial plate. I'm building the cab and you're making the game better. Get your ass listed in the Serial No. or edit the Model No. or something.

Alright, I just didn't want to sign your cabinet and have you stuck with something you didn't want. I strongly dislike when companies and people do this which is why the first thing I removed was the defunct link at the top of the game.

Remember, neither me nor tully are game developers. I would not be able to recreate this game with any accuracy at least.

It'd be kind of cool to have a couple of buttons on the back that can trigger a different version of the game. Maybe one that's a little faster with a different color skin on the copter or a different model, now that you can tweak stuff.

This ^^^

I will get started on making this. Any ideas on what you would want the difficult version to do or look like. Faster? Red walls? Etc.....

Cabinet is looking good, you slapped it together pretty quickly. Any plans for t-molding? It is also much much smaller than I had first thought it would be, this thing will be a hit at your work.

One last thing, did you get any suggestions back from your coworkers? Anything to iron out or did you modify the audio files again?

CoryBee eats sheets of mdf, blank circuit boards with a dash of flash and spits out arcade cabs, serial plates and compiles code with his mind. :burgerking: You definitely got skills bro...Once your cab building skills match your computer knowledge, you will be an arcade super hero.

I like the style of the cab Louis, shape reminds me of the old mechanical junk yard style games

i've been eye-balling this thread since the beginning and im getting some plaques now, but what if Corey made a "arcade version" with higher quality graphics? in your dissecting of the game, are you able to replace the artwork without damaging the game? I was thinking it would be awesome to have elongated boulders instead of rectangles, and being that this would be a "higher quality" arcade version, it would intrigue people to play this version more... and if we could make it need credits would force them to feed it lunch money at his office.

It could be done. I will put some thought into it, having it need credits would not be too difficult of a task either. Would need some idea for what to replace though. The ceilings can be like part of a cave or something, I dunno. Well let's keep this thread void of this unless Tully wants it in his cab. I will start a new thread related to this if I decide to do more work on it.

WakaWaka!

The audio files I sent you sound pretty good to me. But the up and down sounds are laggy, the down clip especially.

Anything you can do about the lag or should I make different clips?

It is not a problem, have had some time off of work to accommodate a certain someone to come to my part of the globe after I was shown such a good time on her side. It has been a learning exercise and can't wait to hear back from the "pros" at your work.

This version, 2.5, is it for me.  :droid  The sounds fit the movement well and help make the helicopter 'feel' heavy. Thanks so much for everything. I've removed the other versions from the shared drive at work and put this one there. I'll let you know what the pros think soon.

Sweet......but makes me sad that there is no more editing needed. If this is solid let's work on "FireRed" tweak it so it is difficult but not impossible to get past 200. Throw in an AHK script to close the current game and open "FireRed".

On the topic of playing the game without borders and smooth transition from pressing the power button, here is a method I think will suffice. Wont need the EXE file for this just the SWF.

  • Download GOM Player
  • Associate SWF files to GOM player if it isn't by default
  • Open GOM, right click and go to preferences
  • Go to "Playback" tab and check off "Always launch GOM player in fullscreen"
  • Go to "General" tab and change "Logo" to a black screen so you never see that it is loaded in GOM
  • Shell windows with the SWF file and it will run in fullscreen through GOM player

Cheers!

Found this.

Ok people, I probably found out how to get it done.
You need to install flash player for internet explorer, not just "for the other browsers" version

So I guess install flash player in Internet Explorer and that should fix it.

  That did the trick. My Internet Explorer probably had a heart attack being ripped out of a coma for an update. Thanks, man.

Sweet. Send me a PM with your info so I can make them Plates.

You think you will incorporate the hard version if we tune it up a bit?

You should try and flute your dowels if you plan on gluing them... it will allow glue to distribute for better adhesion.

I have been working on the size of the "Attack Blocks". Changing them makes the game break though so I am re-writing a bunch of it to accommodate. Once I am successful with that I can change the sizes\shape\etc of it without any issue.

Let me hear some more ideas people. One of my orig. ideas for the hard mod was a star wars themed one haha. Have a bunch of sound effects already.

Damn it! You guys are going about to cause a theme change.  :lol  The bezel graphic can easily be swapped out by unbolting the top. The side art... maybe I can cover the whole side with plexiglass and come up with a way to swap out side art prints. /ponders

Black sides, with a cut-out for vertically-installed, decased LCD widescreen displays so their panels are right behind the side plexiglass panels. Instant side art!

As long as the game play is the same. I'm up for different themes. If we can come up with a few good versions, would adding a select screen be a difficult thing for you Mr. Game Tech?

I say keep the "Helicopter" theme, then hack a gamepad to use AHK with some buttons on the back to change the game by loading a new SWF file. Just so you don't lose that nostalgia.

Also, this way I don't have to write in a new portion of the game again.

I'm not familiar with Shelling Windows.

Forgot about this statement. How have you not shelled windows man! Vital step so you don't see a computer behind the machine.....

http://www.gameex.com/download/instantsheller.zip

You will definitely need this as it will hide your mouse cursor in GOM, cause every time you click it will pop back up. A black dot will not show up.

An easy beginners way:

  • Let it choose the default shell program because it will only let you choose EXE files and we need to load an SWF one.
  • Click "I am ready do it"
  • Go to start > run > type "regedit"
  • Click search and put in "gameex.exe"
  • Should find the registry entry we added to change windows shell.
  • Change it to the path of the SWF file, something like "c:\helicopter\corybee-helicopter-game.swf"
  • Voilla!
