Hmm, I bought a 2 disc special edition DVD from a local discount book shop type place and it was £4 - I don't think it is that hard to get hold of :S
Hey Dudes thanks, for rescuing me, lets go for a burger.... HA! HA! HA! HA!

Bestbuy, walmart, target & everyone else you can think of has 0 for sale.

I figured out why its so damn expensive, its not just hype for the sequel. Nope, Disney pulled out every Tron DVD off the retailers shelves to help sway & influence the public to go see the movie.

Bootay if Target still has em you can make some money right now, look at the bids on the others they are up there. My fee for that advice which will undoubtedly earn you $100 per DVD is a free copy ;D Amazon, ebay & etc are all a kick in the nards right now.

Edwards80 I am sure out here in the US a year ago I could have found one at some used CD shop but right now the stores know what they have & so do the online sellers....damn tulip bulb speculators!

It was 13.99 here until disney pulled it:
http://www.bol.com/nl/s/algemeen/zoekresultaten/Ntt/tron+dvd/Ntk/media_all/Nty/1/N/0/Ne/0/search/true/searchType/qck/index.html?_requestid=7699
Guess they just want to justify dowloading from TPB! If the RIAA or French downloadgestapo busts you downloading Tron, I think you can win the following lawsuit by proving Disney inflated the price artificially.

Really? Interesting. I always seen it at Target but I haven't looked in the dvd section I a few months. If Disney did pull it then it may no longer be there. I will be sure to look tonight out of curiosity.

That is all

If you can find a joystick with suction cups on the bottom like this one (got mine at a goodwill) you can hook it up when you want some Tron and remove it afterward (assuming you have a spinner).  Works surprisingly well assuming your CP top is smooth enough for the suction cups to hold.

Then use this analog joystick map and the result is pretty damn good.

Dude you should totally sell it for like $100-$150 now & then buy it back used for $9 six months from now.

That's what I'm thinking.  I can burn burn a copy before I send it off and then buy the super-duper collectors edition of both movies when that comes out in a year... and some arcade parts too!

I did that with a Fist of the North Star DVD I had a couple years back. Gotta love exploiting the ignorant and weak-willed. ;)

Looks like this story made the mainstream media.

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/12/02/the-mysterious-case-of-the-missing-tron.html?from=rss

“It looks f--king terrible,” says one fan on a message board who rewatched it. At our own viewing party, the graphics seemed right out of an Atari game, and the dialogue would make any self-respecting high-schooler tweet “OMG.” “Computers are just machines, they can’t think!” says one character. “The system’s got more bugs than a bait store,” says another. For Disney’s sake, let’s hope the new Tron doesn’t crash, too.

They're a 'fan' who doesn't like the original, and the sequel isn't even out yet. Have they played an Atari game in a while?....and is that console or arcade? Oh, and from what decade? In any case, I still like Forbidden Planet.

Yeah I don't get that quote.  I think Tron holds up pretty well--except for a few of the lines.   ;D

Still looks like there are some crazy prices for the DVD on eBay.  Glad I have mine.

If we are being honest here, Tron doesn't hold up at all.  Tron was made in a time when only the wealthy had computers and only MIT grads had more than rudimentary knowledge of how a pc actually works.  This allowed the film makers to take some *ahem* liberties regarding computer functions, networking ect....

In terms of plot, Tron is the silliest computer movie ever made.  If you can get over that then it's a great film, but if you can't (and many people from the younger generation can't) then it's just stupid.

The graphics... with the rose colored glasses removed, are questionable as well.  The special effects hold up quite well, but the cheap body suits look pretty dated, especially in HD.  The compositing techniques used to merge the FX with the film footage is pretty horrible in a few spots as well.

I liked the movie, and still do, but I was around when it came out and understand just how cool it was by 80's standards.  I can certainly understand why younger people wouldn't like it though.

That being said, it really seems like a dumb move on Disney's part to pull the dvds.  I mean wouldn't a Tron sequel be made to appeal to.. you know TRON FANS??  If the original film is so bad in their eyes then why in the world would they make a sequel?

Disney has been buying back their movies since they first started releasing them on vhs (although I only recall them doing this with their cartoons).  They do this so that no one can find the movie for a few years, then they do a big hyped up re-release and sell a ton of copies.  My guess is they will probably keep all the Tron dvd's away from the stores until shortly after Tron 2 dvd's go on sale, at which point they'll re-release Tron as some new ultimate version.

I have to disagree.  Electric Dreams is easily the silliest computer movie ever made.

I am just glad I bought my DVD several years ago.

Well if we are going down the "not even trying to be serious" route then you might as well put Wierd Science up there as well.  I meant films where they are "serious" about the pc aspect.  Horrible Horrible film btw... mad props for actually knowing about it! ;)

If we are being honest here, Tron doesn't hold up at all.

Let me clarify what I mean by hold up.  I realize this means different things to different people.  Tron is still enjoyable for me to watch.  Unlike other movies such as Superman II or Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band which for some reason I liked as a kid and now are not in the least bit fun to watch.  I agree with you about the younger generation.  I'm actually surprised when I meet someone born in the 80's that likes the movie.

This allowed the film makers to take some *ahem* liberties regarding computer functions, networking ect....

I agree 100% although this is part of the charm of the movie for me.

To me the most unrealistic part of Tron is Flynn.  He is owns an arcade (which he lives in), plays video games and apparently still gets babes.   ;D

Well if we are going down the "not even trying to be serious" route then you might as well put Wierd Science up there as well.  I meant films where they are "serious" about the pc aspect.  Horrible Horrible film btw... mad props for actually knowing about it! ;)

This explains a lot about "Weird Science".

To me the most unrealistic part of Tron is Flynn.  He is owns an arcade (which he lives in), plays video games and apparently still gets babes.   ;D

I don't see an issue here. Besides, he was good-looking. I mean, haven't you seen Joystix?? Seriously, though, I'm sure this happened somewhere in the country.

In any case....'holding up' means: it is a convincing world in itself. This is apparently what escapes folks under thirty....especially under twenty.

Second, if the events in Tron had actually happened THEN, it's very convincing. It's like these kids don't read....or perhaps comprehend.... history.

Anyone older complaining has no excuse.

Yeah, I don't get the complaints either. Anyone who could knock on Tron for its visuals for is definitely not part of a generation that would appreciate it for what it is. It is the first movie to really utilize CGI, at least for more than a scene or two, they did it very well by blending it with hand animation.

Anyone from the older generations who wishes there to be slicker special effects should go ask Disney to get all George Lucas on the film and replace it with "Tron Special Edition". Maybe they can replace Bit with a dancing GIF image called Megabyte that does a music number. Because, how can a Binary digit think, or even be represented as an image? We have to ground this fantasy world it reality for the kids.  ::)

... a dancing GIF image called Megabyte that does a music number.

It's been done before... More or less.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!

Reboot was actually a pretty good show.  Lots of Easter eggs and references to other shows and movies, like the 11 on Megabytes guitar.
