Control Panel Hole Sizes

As I'm searching the boards, getting ready to to drill holes, I find that there's really no central location for this sort of information.  If you have reached this thread through a search, and the hole cutting information is not available in the chart below, when you DO find the information, please reply to the thread and include the dimensions for others.  If everyone plays along, this thread will be a resource for those wondering how to cut a hole for any control panel component.

Can someone with trackball knowledge help fill this out with me?  I find this topic in particular to be quite confusing, as there are a billion ways to mount this stuff.  I'm particularly interested in describing the hole sizes using various trackballs, different STYLE balls, and differences using a plate vs. flush mounting in wood or plexi.

For the trackballs you will need a router (if you want the plate mounted flush) and a jigsaw to cut out hole.  The hole is usually a funky shape.  Not a hole saw.   See pic

I suppose I was thinking that you'd put Plexi over the plate, and need to cut a hole in the plexi to cover it.

I suppose this could be another entry for this type of mounting.. how would you reword the above info?  Also, got any measurement specifics to go along with that?

I will be the first to admit, this thread chart is gonna be a team effort.  I'm not hole cutting master

Happ 3" trackball holes:

If you plan on exposing the lip, it's 2.99" for a high-lip or regular trackball. It's 3.24" for a high ball. See the exploded diagrams I linked to.
If you plan on only exposing the ball, it depends on the thickness of the material between the trackball and the top of the CP.

Hey, great idea!

Atari Cone Switches are going to be 29/64"... That's  what size drill bit fits tightly in my Original Space Ace control panel holes... Hope that helps...

For completion sake - Standard sanwa/seimitsu buttons have a 30mm hole and the small sanwas are 24mm

What size hole do I need for a Happ Competition (Assuming I mount it under the cp) ? 1 1/8 ?

I did some searching, and didn't see anything specifically going against the 1 1/8" hole rule for bottom mounting a Happs Super.  Maybe someone who's mounted one this way could confirm however.

btw - I have updated the above chart to include Suzo 500's during my search efforts to help you out.

Check this thread and this thread out.  I think it sounds like 1 1/8" is what you're after, assuming you're not putting lexan over top of the CP.  Can someone again, confirm?

No plexi over the top.  CP will be covered in a layout from mame marquees and my understanding is they're 'man' enough to not need covering ?!?

Thanks guys!  I used the info I found in this thread to drill my control panel last night.  Worked like a charm!  I loaded up a 1 1/8" spade bit and it drilled through effortlessly.

I also made the hole for my joystick 1 1/8".  I sort of just went with my gut on what size to drill, given the very short throw of the magstik plus.  It's being undermounted on 3/4" plywood..
