Right now I play my horizontal games on a horizontal MAME cab and my vertical games on a vertical MAME cab.  I am considering purchasing a 27" multi res monitor for the horizontal MAME enabling me to play the vertical games on it and maintain approximately the proper resolutions.   If I did that I could pull the PC from the vertical MAME to use in the Driver MAME I will be working on shortly.  I then would have an empty Dynamo cut-corner cab I could drop a multi-CPS2 board in to or something.  This would also free up a little space in the game room.

How nice do vertical games look on a multi-res horizontal monitor?

Keep things as they are, and buy a PC for the driver mame. You can build a PC so cheap these days.

The money shouldn't be an issue, as a big multi res monitor is as expensive as a PC.

I have been playing vertical games on a 25" horizontal monitor. They look fine, but the horizontal ones look better: filling up the screen to the bezel. Sometimes I get the itch to build a vertical cab, which considering my project is far from done, is insane...

That's a tough decision.  I think what you have is pretty much ideal.  However, verticals do look terrific on a multisync, especially if you use Soft15khz which let's you add some additional custom resolutions for 300 and 320 line vertical shooters. 
A couple benefits I can think of using a digital multisync (I wouldn't bother with an analog one which seems to be practically all that's available these days):
- medium resolution games
- Arcade cabinet-friendly PC games requiring higher resolutions
- keeps geometry settings between games

Another thing to consider is how much longer digital multisyncs will be around.  I would bet in a year or two there will be no more digital multisync CRT arcade monitors available.  The D9400 is pretty much the only one left.    If I could afford it, I would buy one as a backup for my Betson.

I use an automatically rotating 19" PC CRT monitor.
I love it. The WOW effect when people first see it turn is pretty cool too.

I'd love to build one of these one day... I agree,  a rotating monitor is bitchin,  especially if it's automatic depending on the game you choose....

Keep your setup.  I have a 27" multisync and while i love it.  i would like dedicated horiz and vert cbs better.

Be careful with that one (that's what I have).  In recent months, they seem to be having 'horizontal linearity' issues with those monitors (ie. squishing on one side or the other).  That's about the only issue with mine (search the monitor forum and you'll find a bunch of others with the same problem).  If you are close to a Betson distributor for easy return/exchange I'd say go for it, but if not just remember it's about $100 shipping if you have a problem with it.

do what I did, have both monitor installed in ONE CAB. One Vertical and 1 Horiz....... All I do it flick a switch to change the monitor. Easy, Simple....
