As I've mentioned countless times before, I have just started the construction of my first MAME cabinet. (Got a friend to help me out, and just found out that my dad would love to help me as well). I started out by getting the controls I needed from Happ controls and Mike's Arcade Parts. (Mike's supplied the four-way joystick and Happ everything else so far. I still need my spinner, trackball, and IPAC, however).
Anyway, I've put together a mock-up in Cardboard to see how the layout would work and how many buttons I can move to other places. I'm REALLY happy I put this mock-up together because I realized that I planned on putting far more buttons than I needed to on my control panel. Many of these will be elminated and/or moved to an admin panel hidden on the sides of the CP.
Anyway, one thing I've done is assembled one button with the microswitch and hooked up a mock-crimped disconnect to some 18-AWG wire I have. The thing is, I can't stop pressing the button and feeling/hearing the click.
I've got this button next to me while also viewing the control panel and I keep thinking "God, I want this cabinet done right now". Am I weird for doing this? Did anybody else do anything crazy like this while preparing for their first cabinet build? <click, click, click, click, ---gosh-darn--- I CAN'T STOP PRESSING THIS BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!>
