The Cliff notes version is.... No.
He was a kid who wanted the world, didn't want to pay for it, and didn't know how to start getting it. He also didn't want to look at any other posts on the site for info.
Thank you. I know personally that it took me about 3 years of research in what I wanted to do and before I pulled the trigger to build... I swear the kids today only want instant gratification and don't want to have to work for it.
Today my kids must see the picture I just took of them, with the digital camera, immediately after it is taken... What the hell would they do if we actually had film that had to be developed?
Were we like this to our previous generation as well?
It took me a year from the time I decided I wanted a cab until I made one, and I've learned and realized that the cab itself and basic setup is pretty easy... the cp will probably take me another six months to make one the way I want it. That's mainly because of my work schedule, but I do think the cp takes at least twice as long as the cab, especially if you are planning a custom design or modular setup.
Instant gratification to me is spending a boat load of money on a pre-built multi game cab. There's nothing wrong with that but some people really like the satisfaction they get knowing they made their own machine.
I also do a lot of Home Theater screen development and the same mindset applies there too... some people like building and creating things and think that's just as much fun as the end product. It's especially satisfying when you build something that actually looks nicer and performs better than the commercial product.
