When you say Bust a Move, I think you mean "Neo Geo games".

And those colors in your pic are wrong. I think it's supposed to be this order:

A = red
B = Yellow
C = green
D = blue
NO MORE!!

Mousetrap is much easier if your buttons are the same colors as the gates you have to open.

Yep ... took the buttons out of mine today for a cleaning (Christmas party mishap with kids and cola) and had to check HardMVS to get the colours in the right spots.

Cheers.

Trivial Pursuit used a red button and a green button.  I think they were illuminated rectangular buttons.  If memory serves, red was on the left and green was on the right.  Tried to find pics but no luck.

very interesting. searching a couple of arcade machine databases for "bust-a-move" yields at least 4 variations of the control panel!  :-\ i guess i'll use the following colors, as suggested by a couple of you:

It's a Neo Geo layout (Bust-A-Move doesn't care much since it uses one button!) and that is the correct one (matches the original flyer) ... although I don't think I've ever seen one on location or at auction that hasn't got it messed up.

Cheers.

Despite the original colors, all Neo-Geo games I know of have the buttons labeled A-D in their instruction screens.

Chicken Shift uses color-coded buttons the same way Mouse Trap does. Blue things are moved or activated with the blue button, red things are moved or activated with the red button.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

I think most of them use a graphic showing both the button color and the A-D label, although I think there may be some with just the graphic.  And if you don't have your CP labeled with A-D, the intro screen won't help you much.

thanks for all the replies.

i guess i'd forgotten that bust-a-move only needs one button. so the only games mentioned so far where button colors are part of the game play are:

    mouse trap
    trivial pursuit
    chicken shift

since these are not particularly important to me, i guess i'll just choose colors based on aesthetics, rather than function.

or Gauntlet, but the CP is painted rather than the buttons.
