Nice - the text on the white strips does not work in touchclone when setting 12 albums instead of 6....

You need this version it fixes up more skin issues, this is for skin creators and end users. I have also released the Chrome skin i made as a proof of concept for the new skin stuff. It was inspired by Mr C's great work...

BUG (?): The background color on the appearance setting '4 Covers + Tack listing' does not call on the same settings as the other sections. (ie: Queue and Search Backdrop). Should it be skinnable, or editable (background/foreground) with the Skin Tool?

I ran into the problem since I'm designing a dark color skin (w/ white fonts), and the tracklisting next to the 4 Covers is white. So the tracks don't show up.

BUG/FEATURE (?): I was having a problem getting the right backgrounds to show in the correct screens, but I realized I was using the Skin Tool 'Texture Viewer' to load the backgrounds in. Apparently the application uses specific naming conventions for some background screens, thus not loading in the images I was selecting through the 'Texture Viewer'... Ultimately the texture viewer is the bomb, since I can name the images and format myself (ie: jpg, etc)  I'm perfectly willing to accept that I was also doing something wrong, but felt it was worth mentioning.

DESIGN SUGGESTION: The text info below the album cover on the 'Track listing' screen should line up vertically (ie: Left justified) with the left edge of the album cover. Possible even indented to the right a little. The way it is now makes any skinnable elements created to wrap around the text (ie: Windows, whatever) come too close to the menu on the right. No breathing room, per se. Same with the track listing itself, on the right. Maybe that should be indented a little as well. Any other places you can think of?

I realize you may be making this info drag n' drop w/ the skin tool in the future, so disregard the above if that's the case.

(God, aren't graphic designers picky?)   :P

BUG: I've changed the Album Frame image using the Skin Tool by selecting a .jpg image in the texture viewer. However, "AlbumFrameTextureNew3.bmp" is always loaded as the Album Frame for the first album in the list. All the others are the correct selected .jpg.  For now, I've gone back to using the filename AlbumFrameTextureNew3.bmp so all the frames load correctly.

I'm REEEEEALY close to finishing the skins. Just tweaking minor stuff before I consider them ready to go.

Right i think all thoose suggestions are perfectly valid and i will look at them in depth once i get home tonight.

The album frame image sounds like a bug so i will try and recreate that and then eliminate it.

The 4 covers with track listing screen is really experimental to see if i could do it and is not reallly as complete as it should be. I am not to sure how many people actually use this but what it does is put the album frame in the track listing background. I should really make this a seperate image i suppose so i will also get onto this tonight.

The track listing screen should be Drag N Drop esque by tonight as well i have already started it. This will fix the issues you are getting with some elements being too close to the edge of the screen. Likewise time permitting i will also make thoose buttons on that screen fully skinable as per the menu bar so you may end up holding your skins back further to incorporate these changes.

From what i can see the tracklising changes to the skintool will effect your skins release the most so i will try and get that in first as it enables you to carry on working.

NOTE: I have fixed up the bug causing the top 20 display not to work, or least i think i have so some feedback on this would be good. Whatever i get done you will see a release tonight.

Confirmed, it is when you click anywhere on that frame? Don't know why it is doing that or where that code came from. As soon as i get back that will be fixed in tonights release, Good Catch Silver.

Right i have almost got the skintool completed.... I have made some buttons settings global throught the jukebox so you set them once and they look like that on every screen. These are....

BACK
ADD TO QUEUE
PLAY NEXT
PLAY NOW

I have done this so the jukebox has a consistant look to the end user, i doubt anyone would want to make these buttons look differently on every screen/occurance. If i am wrong let me know but htis is how it will be for now.

Known Issues:
BUG: Actual Listing of tracks doesn't move to where it is set to in the skin.
BUG: First time you click a cover the screen doesn't show the tracks.
BUG: Add Album/Add To Carasole Don't resize in skintool.

If you find any more let me know and i will fix them up. This is what happens when you rush things, i wasn't looking at making a release tonight but as the list of issues is growning i feel i might have to. Damn i need a flash drive and i could be working on it from here at work.

Barcrest,

Do you think that there could be an option to have the track listing in expanded mode to have the song names as buttons to be easier to hit for touchscreen users? Just an idea. Thanks

If you can let me know where you are refering to? The main track listing or the 4 covers with tracklisting??? I am using it fine on a 14" touchscreen in the main track listing. I don't mind changing something if it is not working if you could just clarify what you are looking for.

Barcrest,

I am referring to the Main Track Menu (After Expanding Album). It is working for me also, I have a 15" touchscreen, and sometimes when users are hitting a song, they hit the song above or below, due to them being close together. I was just thinking if they were buttons, they'd be spaced apart. I was just asking to see if this was feasible. If not, I'll just have to make sure the users don't have such fat fingers :) Thanks for the response

Ok at the moment the skintool treats this list as one block, i could make it so it treats each track (Row) seperatly and this would enable you to resize them to whatever suits you best. At the moment the bulk of my time is taken up with the skinning options and bug fixes so new stuff is on a back burner until the skintool is complete and all know bugs are ironed out.

Thanks for your interest, check back later tonight for a new release.

Barcrest,

love the program. working on building a jukebox and trying different programs to use. while trying your software i found a few bugs and thought i would post them.

Bug: in the appearance settings options when i set the track display options to "use database for track names" or "use filename for names" and restart the program it will not play songs or add songs to the queue, but when random play is turned on random songs will play fine. Reinstalling the program fixes the problem, but making the above changes again will cause it not to work right after restarting it.

Bug: the add entire album button and the add album to carosuel are reversed. pressing the add to carosuel button actually adds the entire album to the queue.

Bug: the credits display does not refresh when credits are deducted from the total credits. also when you start the program with the freeplay option the credit display does not display freeplay. and it is possible using credit mode to go into negative credits and still keep playing.

Bug: in the config program i can't remove albums from the database. i get "runtime error '5': invalid procedure call or argument" and the program closes.

keep the updates coming!!

Hey Sly, regarding your first bug, until Barry fixes it, which'll be like faster than lightning, you can always go into the directory that Freebox is installed in and delete the Freebox.ini file.  This will set your preferences back to default and you should be able to launch Freebox again without having to reinstall.

Yes, neither of these options should be there anymore. It is now based totally around the database created from the config so i will remove these. They date back to a much earlier version.

Bug: the add entire album button and the add album to carosuel are reversed. pressing the add to carosuel button actually adds the entire album to the queue.

Good catch, this is part of me enabling the skinning options for this screen. I have fixed this.

Bug: the credits display does not refresh when credits are deducted from the total credits. also when you start the program with the freeplay option the credit display does not display freeplay. and it is possible using credit mode to go into negative credits and still keep playing.

Yep another bug but i hadn't got around to fixing this as no one had brought it up before. I have been pretty much working on issues people are getting as they get them. I will look at sorting this out on the next release.

Bug: in the config program i can't remove albums from the database. i get "runtime error '5': invalid procedure call or argument" and the program closes.
keep the updates coming!!

This is new to me i will have a look at it for the next release.

It'a not too intelligent, you have to have albums byt the same atrist with the same artist name for it to work. It doesn't know The Police are the same as Police for instance. If you are tagged prooperly it should work.

For the tracklisting, why not do it the way demonstrated below?

- Then you get (5) albums listed, from a similiar artist.
- The Main album listing is at the same size ratio. It's the same size as the old one in this image.
- The vertical space is utilized more efficiently.

I think the Album/Artist/Year info should be closer together anyhow...and the character limited. Longer titles could then scroll or whatever.

Well you can resize the covers, i had 4 underneath like how you have it but decided i wanted to put them up the side.. It's just a matter of taste, If you have downloaded the latest release you will see you can position them anywhere you like, don't forget you can resize the album tag labels and move them closer together if you wish.

That skin is more just to show you what can be done, i leave it to experts like you to make the really good skins.

Hey
When selecting an album in the newest version, it always shows the album art for the album in the bottom right corner of the main screen.

runtime error 6: overflow when trying to use any other skin than metal.  The album bug is as follows:

When I have my collection in the twelve album view, whatever album is in the bottom right corner of that view(or either of the other views for that matter), when I select an album to look at the songs, that album in the bottom right is the one I see blown up.  No matter what.  Does that make sense?

NOTE: The first five colored skins are now part of the 1.6.99 install!

Alright, here's some skins I put together to be used with the latest version of Freebox. As with the program itself, these are ALPHA versions which will most likely be updated and improved as more features become available and more aspects become skinable. Let me know what y'all think.
