IDE cables
« on: June 03, 2005, 01:04:28 pm »
This question is beyond noob, but somehow I never realized this.  I never noticed before that there are 2 kinds of IDE cables.  Some have a pin blocked in the middle and some don't.  I had saved some cables to hack but when I went to hook up the gp wiz the blocked pin prevented it from fitting.  What's the deal?

Most IDE hard drives are missing a pin at that spot.  The idea is to keep you from plugging the cable in backwards.

The IDE cables we sell do not have any pin blocks. We use them with mini-pacs all the time.

Not all of the cables are like that, but sometimes that's a "key" that can be removed.

I have used a heavy needle and managed to pick out the little "plug" before.    You can also heat the needle up and melt through it if all else fails.
