Mame credits problem
« on: June 11, 2021, 12:51:51 pm »
Ive just wired up my CP and added my coin door.Ive done a CP before but its my first coin door.

Anyway the issue is after setting these up,some games now start with one credit already.Regardless of whether i leave one in the game or not before exiting to Attract Mode. Not every game tho.

Also when i TAB into Mame settings, then i press TAB again to exit back to the game, that adds a credit as well. :dizzy:

Ive had this PC setuop running with keyboard for months,so know its something Im doing wrong.

If anyone could help me find out where Im going wrong it would be great.

Does it happen with all games?

Could be some unintended key mapping within mame configuration that is doing it.

Only other thing I would imagine is a wire shorting to something under your panel.

Odd that it would be somewhat random otherwise, yeah?
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

Thanks for replying Bobby.
The wire shorting sounds like it could be likely.I didnt think it would be because its not consistent thru all games.

I cant test yet as Im working, but will go back to check later.

Thanks again.

mention the game you are referring to.

I know lots of Midway games ie MK, if you put credit(s) and exit the game, the unused credits remains.
Other games do this as well (can't remember which)

Also can't remember which game(s), when you start it, it gives credit(s).

Some default games also gives you more credits per coin entry, or needs more coin to get 1 credit, this you can change.

Start by mentioning the games, someone will give you answer.

The coin door wires up exactly like a button so unless you have a short somewhere I doubt it is the wiring.  Hopefully you didn’t wire to NC on the switch.

When I was wiring up my coin door I was having a super tough time getting credits to register in some games only.  I reworded it 3 separate times to no avail.  Turns out there is a setting in the ini I had to change for those games to get the coin to work.  It only affected some games so was driving me crazy.  The problem and explanation is in my thread if it helps you but sounds like you are having a different issue.

unhook the wiring to the coin door, does the problem remain?
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

aaaaah ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.How embarrassing.

Ill come clean for any other idiots who search for this problem.

I followed Malenkos advice and disconnected the door, and the problem was gone.I then checked how Id had it connected,Id copied the terminals Id connected on my joystick.Thinking it would be the same.I had in fact connected to the NC terminal....@javeryh

The fact every game wasnt affected threw me.Thank you for the help, and sorry for wasting peoples time.  :notworthy:

Agreed- not a waste at all.
Potentially, when I actually have a real coin door to work with, it will help me keep from doing the same!

Maybe-

If I'm paying attention to what I am doing

Definitely not a waste of time.  I can't count the number of times I had to ask a question here that had a relatively simple answer.  That's how you learn!
