I suggest the OP put it up for sale. Consider what it's worth in parts as well, because if you sell it too low, it could get parted out anyway. The parts will go to the your critics via the middle man if that does happen. If the hobbist as a group determine that it's not worth preserving, by making the parts worth more than the machine, then it's ridiculous for anyone to complain. The OP never said he would turn down all offers in favor of a frankenpanel. I think paigeoliver probably has a strong understanding of this market and gave the advice that is most likely to keep the machine as preserved as possible. Putting it up for sale is probably a waste of time, but personally, I would post it anyway. It really is a nice cabinet and someone might demonstate with their money that they do want it preserved. If the preservationist take the action step of not purchasing it, grab a drill and make it playable.
