I have now completed the Player 1 side. When I put it all together, I held my breath to see if the touch controls were going to give me grief again, but it seems rock solid now. So these pics show how I put the buttons together in 'layers'. First, LEDS in. Then wire LEDS. Next microswitches in. Then Touch control in and wired. You can see the touch control module is just held on a microswitch with some double sided tape. Look carefully and you will see the little squares of copper foil that make the touch switches. The connector that the touch switch goes to has three different functions to save on having even more connectors. As well as the touch switch wires, it has the earth for the buttons, and the common (positive) for the LED's which also has the resistor in heatshrink.

Bezel completed. The bottom of the pic is the front of the bezel. Those 'arches' let some air flow up towards the back. There are some small vents under the joysticks and where the wiring comes out. Each is quite small but it all adds up and is better than nothing.

I asked at the hardware shop for the blackest black they had. We both agreed you couldn't get blacker than black chalkboard paint. Unfortunately, rather obviously that paint is designed to be marked. You bump it ever so slightly (even rubbing your hand on it hard) and it marks! So learn from my mistake- you don't need it to be THAT black :duckhunt

That looks sharp. Why not put a matte clear coat over it to protect it?

Why not indeed! So obvious now you point it out- blackest you can get, with a protective coating. I'll pick up a can of matte clear coat today

I had some friends over for a retro games day. Had a whole bunch of consoles set up around the house, and both arcade machines going. Discovered the position of my touch switches is not ideal as people kept hitting ipac short cuts :duckhunt

I had anticipated TAB as a problem as that used to be hit on my cocktail cab, so that was easily changed to be accessed with T (T for tab!). Off the top of my head I can't actually think how to change the other P1(shift) + joystick shortcuts. Will have to have a look on ultimarcs site...

Looks like a knob adjustment.

You saying that gave me a thought. The weather was quite cool when I first got this going, and now it's summer time. Maybe my adjustment was a bit marginal and now with the warmer weather it slips out of the 'zone'. It starts off alright but after a while goes like this.

When I get a chance, I'll take the back off and point a pedestal fan at the chassis and see if that does anything. If so maybe a bit more adjustment is necessary, and at worst maybe a cooling fan...

A friend and I gave it a good thrashing a while ago and we realised now we are grownups (we're both over 6 feet) that the control panel height is a bit of an issue. I have two weeks leave and I'm going through my list of things to do (see my swivel couch in the console section for instance).

Problem solved!

2 inches.

The other big update is that I figured out what was wrong with my CRT- the Arcade VGA in my MAME rig :(. I figured it out because the PC died on me. Until I could get around to figuring it out, I picked up a cheap Pandoras Box, and everything runs fine. Other than that I think MAME is so much better than a Pandora...
