Support needed for a 4 player control panel
« on: August 31, 2014, 09:45:06 pm »
So I have built both sides following the arcadecab 2 plans:
http://www.arcadecab.com/CabinetPlans2/CabinetPlans2_Background.html

The ledge in these plans for the control panel is around 11".

Is this going to be enough to support a mameroom quad control panel? Its 48" x 21".

Hah! That's the cab/website that eventually led me here. I built THIS exact control panel as my first project.

This one looks like it has a pretty big control panel on it and is ok. Maybe I'll be ok with the 11" ledge.

48x21 shouldn't be a problem.  Might get a little close to the monitor if you are adding a trackball but otherwise no problem.  My last 2 CP's are 12" total depth even with a trackball and while I am not going to be swinging for the long drives in golden tee, it works just fine for everything else.  Width is your only enemy with 4 player CP's, you don't want to be pushing your other players away from their controls.  48" is more than enough.

Sorry my question isnt to clear.

What I am wondering is if the ledge of the actual cabinet is large enought to support the control panel.

The ledge of the cabinet is 11" long. The control panel is 21" long.

It would depend on how you are attaching the CP to the cab. But 11" should be enough support.

oh I gotcha..  Another consideration would be the weight balance.. you don't want it tipping forward on you when playing..  Those plans are way deep, so that should be a problem.  Just use some bolts to hold the CP to the cab and it should be fine.  Just don't use 3/8 or 1/4" material for your CP base... I would go 3/4" just so you can really lean on it and not worry about snapping..
