LOL, but I think you forgot that was nearly 35 years ago and you are old now.. I think I got my Vic 20 in 1980... That was when I started gaming, lol.  I wrote a game called "Maze of the Minotaur" on that Vic 20, it was a "zork-like" game that was so big you had to hit play on the datacassette halfway through to load the second half.  I don't think a Voodoo card or an $800 monitor would have helped THAT game out..

I started working for the family company 15 years ago, and when I first came on I started building computers rather than buying them, I couldn't understand why anyone would buy a computer for $1000 when you could build one for $600.  That went on for about 4 years until I was so sick of building computers that I would want to puke every time I had to order parts.  Since then I think I have purchased some 500 desktops and 200 laptops from Dell or HP, maybe more.  It is now more expensive to build than buy complete anyway.  I will still build my gaming rig, but anything else I will just order.

I hear you, brother. The sense of pride and accomplishment I got in rolling my own PC diminished with each one. My last one was from the Dell Outlet 5 years ago and it was tricked out with 8 GB RAM and a TB hard drive for under $400 shipped.

...'Cause its clearly the choice of champions.  And its swift.

TBH I'm reluctant to purchase anymore monitors.  The last 3 were curbside pickups that I am quite happy with.

I get $10 21" CRTs for my MAME cabs. Pretty ---smurfing--- awesome that I can save $790 dollars.

I remember an awesome stretch there where I was picking up 3D enhanced FPSs like every month... Shogo:Mobile Armor Division... SiN... Kingpin... Soldier of Fortune... No One Lives Forever... Quake II... then Half-Life... Sweet, sweet Half-Life. My 12 year old daughter actually beat Half-Life earlier this year. She was hooked.

Wow... I forgot about half those games. I spent a good amount of time on Shogo but never finished.... I forget why actually. I still have the install discs for all those games somewhere. I wonder if I can get them to install now?

The problem with those high end gaming PCs... 15 years ago... and today.. is they don't optimize the games for the most expensive hardware.  Get the benchmark and you're set.  I rocked that stupid GeForce 200mx or whatever for YEARS.  But, hey, if you want to make love to one particular game and spend $600 making it look slightly better... it's your money.

$800 for a 27" monitor is far too much money for something that's too small for multiple players.  I don't imagine that's much of an issue for the buyers, though.

lol, no way, I have way too good of stuff in my gaming rig for MAME 
Actually I threw my old GTX285 in a used computer from work (but a good core i7) and stuck an SSD I had lying around in it, so actually it is better than my previous gaming rig.  But the funny thing is I am well over the $2k mark on my mame cab and I didn't even pay a penny for the computer.. that is all in controls, materials, and the monitor.. That ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- adds up FAST.
