And, Dave, I love you, bro, but I haven't "clocked" a system since the Days of SiSandra.
Me neither, BUT memory tells the motherboard what it should run at and the motherboard will run at that speed unless it isn't capable. Unfortunately in my experience I had some motherboards that couldn't handle 4 sticks at the max rated clock and timing, and I spent my time UNDERclocking it to make it work.. what a pain. Usually not a problem with most computers as they have learned to make the power regulators more robust and able to power more physical memory, but it taught me that it adds stress to the motherboard to add more ram, and in the case of laptops and cell phones, more memory means more power drain on the battery. Like I said though, that was splitting hairs, sure it might lessen the life of the computer, but then so does turning it on, lol.
Yeah, but that extra RAM was REQUESTED because we knew our users and students. You know what the savings were spent on? ---smurfing--- docking stations for teacher laptops. Which they forgot to buy keyboards and mice for and have been sitting in boxes for two years now, unless we open them up to raid the power supplies from them.
Yeah that sounds like a self serving IT guy who was a pain to work with, I hope I didn't come across that way. I am pragmatic, but not an idiot, lol.
