Can any one recommend a good looking USB port
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:33:41 am »
Hi,

I'm looking to add a USB port to the side of my pedestal. Hoping am for something that will blend in.

Its hard to tell how any of them might look when installed. If any one has a recommendation I would appreciate any links.

I haven't found any that are significantly cheaper. I went with these from L-com: http://www.l-com.com/usb-usb-cable-waterproof-panel-mount-type-a-female-standard-type-a-male-05m
Games: Asteroids Deluxe | Atomiswave | Centipede | Championship Sprint | Defender | Donkey Kong | Dig Dug | Frogger | Ikari Warriors | Missile Command | Pac-Man | Pole Position | Robotron | Spy Hunter | Tempest | Super Mario Strikers

We need to lobby Grove Game Gear or another vender to do a bulk oder of this.

http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/usb-b-type-female-connector_1673841066.html

Or

http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/micro-usb-A-type-female-connector_520010342.html

I would gladly pay $8-$10 to a vender I like then $18 for a USB cable.

Found some here...

Yeah you can find the panel mount style pretty cheap. I personally don't like the look as much as the round and they're not flush. To me they look unfinished but I guess it depends where you put them. Mine are on the side of the cp and visible, in the back the panel mount style might be ok.

I like the ones from GGG.. And they are pretty cheap too.  I just wish I had countersunk it before drilling the hole.. would have looked way better if I had drilled a larger hole with a forstner bit, then the regular hole, then flush mounted it.. But it is practically invisible anyway unless you are in bright fluorescent lighting like in this pic.

I think I found a winner.

I like the other kind better but this also looks good, the price point is not offensive , and I would rather spend my money with Randy T at GGG. I have always liked his service.

Her is the link. FYI $10.95

What is it you like better than the GGG? Seems to be a little more expensive and doesn't include a cable.

I just don't like that big shiny plastic plate attached to the GGG one.  I think the smaller Neutrik is more eye-pleasing.  Just my opinion, YMMV.

One more option is an arcade button blank

and a cheap USB male to Female cable - just cut out the blank to fit the female end of the connector.

Button blanks run about $2 or less and the cable about $3-$4 for a 6 foot cable

so about $6 total

I used a Neutrik receptacle and the black bezel. Looks great.

The Neutrik NAUSB-W-B feedthrus are available from Focus Attack, Allied Electronics, Mouser, and many other vendors.

Allied is my preferred vendor for this part. YMMV.

That what I get for not holding out to see what you would come up with.

Gee, sorry I only posted 29 times previously about Neutrik feedthrus with Allied mentioned in 8 of those posts -- often with pics, part numbers, and links.  jk    :lol

Makes thread asking  for product recommendations. Places order less than a day later while people are still posting different recommendations. Classic. :lol

Yep thats me.  ;D

I ordered just short of one full day later. I received lots of recommendations that gave me what I wanted. Scott surprised me with a lore price point for the bran I would have ordered if it was more reasonably priced. Thats why I ordered a lesser known brand of the same thing.

Any way I thought I should up date to say I liked the ones I ordered, they are a little cheeper then the Neutrik ones, and if you have amazon prime its free shipping.

Those are cheaper because they're not switchable like the Neutriks, but they're probably what you want want most of the time. Thanks for the link.
