Welcome to the 2011 BYOAC User Choice Awards Small and Non-Standard Cabinet category voting poll!

Each user gets one vote so pick the project that best fits the broad definition below and really captured your attention.  Feel free to post why you chose a certain cabinet but don't feel obligated to reveal your vote.

Small and non-standard cabinets are defined for this competition as Bartops, Cocktails, and Cabs more easily defined by what they aren't, projects build into or as furniture, or projects disguised as something else that demonstrate outstanding theme, style, balance, and execution

This year we had some great small form projects reach completion with a lot of new ground being explored as far as cabinet design and functionality. The following projects recieved one nomination and as such are awarded an honorable mention as one of the best small projects of 2011:

Evetsllub's Cafe au Cade
Mountain's Jukebox Kit
Jordancbr's Tron Cocktail
Shrunkenmaster's Burgertime Cabaret

And now, the confirmed nominees for the 2011 BYOAC UCA Best Small or Non-Standard Cabinet in no particular order:

Leedsfan's Mini Star Wars

Woodshop Flunky's American Ace

Unstupid's Neo-Geo

Shrunkenmaster's Star Wars Custom Caberet

Le Chuck's Darkade

tom_g's Cocktail Coffee Table Cab

Please be sure and check out the four other categories and cast your vote on each:
2011 Forum Contribution Voting Poll
2011 Full Size Voting Poll
2011 Software Contribution Voting Poll

Nice presentation and clear voting - looks good

Some amazing projects here, I think this category will be a close call

Thanks man, .  Tried a few layouts where I gussied it up with write-ups but determined it was counter productive.  All these great builds speak for themselves (except that one from that Le Chuck d-bag  ;))  so I went with a simplistic approach.

Nice work Le Chuck.  It really helps to have pictures all in one spot.

This is going to be a tough catagory.

Thanks man, I think this is probably the hardest field because of the variety of builds.  Tom_Gs really stands out from the herd visually though, that is one sharp little table.

I had fun going through and getting the pics for the builds but if any builders don't like the pic I used please shoot me a PM or post in the thread the pic you would like to represent your build and I will get it changed out ricky-tick.

Truly feel honoured to have been nominated in this awards category.

I've had a good look through the build threads and the professional standard of finish, attention to detail and innovative thinking that has gone into the cabinets is really inspirational  :applaud:

I really like the looks of yours Tom, does not looks unsightly in the least - maximum wife acceptance factor!

It kind of looks like some kind of Ikea powered sheep grazing on the rug ;)

I vote for the Mini DK.

Edit: Doh! Just saw this in the other poll. Though I still think it should be noted here, too.

Yeah, it's a great little build but I don't think that the handheld hacks really hold a candle to the functionality and mastery that you see in this and the full size category.  That is a big reason why they were moved into hardware because they absolutely deserve praise and attention but would likely not garner it sufficiently in comparison to say American Ace or the Coffee Table.  I think minis are starting to catch on a bit and I imagine we will see thicker competition over on the hardware category for '12.  Still we owe a big thanks to Bender and several others for creating these mini/micro/nano cabinets

All nominations are amazing machines and I would love to own any one of them, in the end my favourite is...

American Ace

Everything about this is just classy, the dimensions are perfect for kids standing or adults sitting and the size is not too obtrusive to have in any room

The retro inspired lines of the cab really say ARCADE to me with excellent craftsmanship all round

Artwork really works, better than a lot of commercial machines and the CP is just the icing on the cake - very thoughtful layout and artwork - compass rose around the stick, rotary around the spinner and volcano buttons!

just brilliant ;)

I hope you win mate, its well deserved

Firstly I just wanna say that I'm chuffed to bits to be nominated! I look at some of the well known names across all the categories and realise that I'm in there with them.....  lol yeah... that'll do for me!   8)

Got the notification email last weekend and I didn't even know about the nominations thing as I'd been away from the forums for a while. Anyway... I've just voted in this category and it was a seriously hard choice. I won't say who I voted for (might do later after the results etc.) but I will reiterate it was very difficult. Been mulling it over a few days in fact.

So gratz to all the other nominees and good luck!   :applaud:

Well, when I'm not working I have two main interests. These projects I build and classic cars. I currently have a Ford Anglia van. Spring is upon us and so is the classic car season. So I've been busy with the van. Basically I throw myself into whatever is the hobby of the moment. And recently it's been the van. But I've just started a Robotron bartop project that has been on hold for a while. So I'm kinda juggling time between the two hobbies at once.  ;)

Agree with that!  Just being listed with these other fine machines is an honor...  Wow... Talk about being in the presence of great company, I have been a big fan of LeedsFan's work for a while now... If I knew there was a competition at the end of each year I would have started sooner   :lol

I haven't been on the site for some time now. I've had a rough few months, having to give up one of my primary sources of income for health reasons, plus going though a second miscarriage. Obviously 'hobby' stuff like this takes a back seat. I was really blown away when I received the message about being short listed for this category.

Getting a project off the drawing board is, I'm sure, a daunting task for many aspiring builders on the site, and I would just like to say thanks to everyone who's helped and inspired me to get up off my butt and actually do something, rather than just talking about it.

X

That's some bad months man, sorry to hear about that.  Losing a baby is a hard row to hoe, let slown going though that hell twice, hope the wife is making through it well.  Nice to see you back on the forums tho and I agree, the hardest part is getting started. Hopefully builds like yours will encourage others to take the plunge.  You have great builds man.

Jeez man this category is hard to choose from. So many great projects. In the end I choose tom_g's Cocktail Coffee Table Cab, because that's just looks like real furniture, except for the controls and screen that is  ;)

I love all these projects and my wish would be to own all these beauties (it's time to plan a heist, methinks - bwah haha!)

Just kidding of course.  But at the end of the day, I cast my vote for the American Ace cab.  I think so many cabs are going for "bigger" and "wider" and "one million controls for four players" (nothing wrong with that of course) that it's a breath of fresh air to see a simple cab with classic looks that's probably so much fun to play on for children and adults.  :applaud:

We're a week out from the polls closing on the 2011 BYOAC User Choice Awards and naming this years winners.  Get those votes in if you haven't already.  This has been a public service  :bump for the Small/Non-Standard Cabinet Category.

Congratulations to all the winners, very much deserved

And thanks the Le Chuck for organised and coordinating the awards process, came out great in the end ;)

Are the winners immortalised in a hall of fame sticky somewhere or something?
