In my perfect world I would have a unique list of all the games which works out to probably 1500-2000 games but I'm too lazy to go through the entire 6k+ list and remove duplicates.  Do you guys have all games(even clones) on your cabinet or only a select list?

Although my cabinet is not done yet, I do a little bit of sorting at a time.  I have a master list, which is hidden.  Then there is a list of "working" games.  I remove duplicates from that list and further sort.  It's kind of a pain, but worth it.

Select list.

How many is in your select list? Do you have the master on there just in case someone wants to play something you don't have on your list?

Have them all (because you never know what games your friends/family want to play), but create favorites for yourself (I use Hyperspin FE for that).

Well, mine has limited controls- 4 way stick, spinner, two buttons, so only about 40-50 games (need to do a final count). I'm focusing on a "best of" a certain kind f game.

If you have a full romset, it's easier just to have all of them on there so you don't have to worry about missing drivers.

I keep a separate gamelist in my front-end (MALA) of around 200 games.
Guests only ever see that gamelist unless they ask for something that isn't on it.

If they ask for something or an interesting game pops up on BYOAC, all I have to do is switch over to the "All Games" list, right click on the game, and add it to the smaller list.  When I add new ones, I kick out some of the ones that never get played.  I always keep it under 200 games.  Anymore just seems overwhelming to anyone browsing through them.

Most of the CHD's aren't playable anyway, so I only have the CHDs for games that I play on there.

+1 on the have them all....I personally went crazy with lists to avoid having to use the mega long list. I created a favorites for me, favorites list for when friends are over, favorites list for the wife, an index to search by letter, and custom lists by genre/controls. (I use Mala as well)

Sometimes half the fun is picking out random games that you never heard of and trying them out. I have actually found quite a few new favorites that way. Enjoy games beyond your normal scope of classics.

I'm not sure what front end you are using, but I should hope that it supports lists. Many even support filters, so you can hide clones, preliminary driver status, japanese trivia games, etc etc.

IMHO, the best solution is to have a full rom set, but then create a series of lists... including a "favorites" list for the games you play most often.

I'm doing this in wah!cade and it works great.

I'm using HyperSpin and I'm just getting started with lists.  Currently my Main list is just the games I can think of but I would prefer to have them all in case someone asks.  I was thinking of removing the genres and making that Favorites, Party, Master. Can you add games to different lists on demand in HS?

I have a full set, divided into their respective genres - no clones. Of course I also have my favs, my fiances' favs, and a few other custom lists. Anything I do not have the controls to play gets removed from the lists. Every once in a while I will boot up each game in a list and play for a few minutes. Anything that is too slow to play or doesn't boot up correctly gets booted - a few minutes a day trims down the ones that don't work well pretty quick.

I have a full set available, but I filter out certain games through non-inclusion on the cab (DDR type w/ CHD primarily) and filter the others through the FE.  I keep the full set on my file server so I can keep fully up to date, but don't actually put the large files on the cab to junk up the relatively small drive.  As for the rest of the set, I never play mahjong or casino games (among others), so I let the FE filter those out so they don't show up on the list.  If you use a good front end, you can dynamically filter or search to find specific games in a given genre so you don't have to manually build and maintain umpteen lists.  I'm sure there are other FE's that do this, but I've been using GameEx for years and been very pleased with this feature.

That is a terrific way to do it.

  • I glow in the dark.
Put all the legal games and ROMs from boards you own, on the cabinet.

That should simplify your task.

I like to maintain a full set of ROMs.  Mostly because I like to participate in things like the AtariAge MAME high score club, and I'd rather not have to hunt down ROMs, I like to just know that I'll have any game that is part of the competition.

The only annoying thing about this is always forgetting which one to use (set 1, set 2, set 3, ver b.2, ver b.7, etc).

Also, as somebody mentioned, I fear that if I clean out the list I'll miss out on the discovery of new games.  There are so many on there that I've never played or heard of, and it's fun once in a while to just go exploring.

Honestly, even though the list is enormous, I don't find it overly cumbersome.  I use MaLa, and I have simply created a separate list for each letter of the alphabet.  I tap the joystick left and right to pick a letter, then up and down to pick a title.  For the longer lists, I just hold down button #1 when and the up/down scrolling goes into overdrive speed.  Never takes more than a few seconds to find the game I want.

I'm NOT asking where you got a full list of ROMs from...

But did you run across a complete download or did you just search out and save them all?

*p*l*e*a*s*u*r*e*d*o*m*e*

I used romlister and compiled a list of games that support my controls.  No no more mature crap & no more majhong & no more games that I can't play.   :)

Those "mature" games are hilarious. Actually they are quite a hit when I have parties. As a matter of fact my fiance used to play them now and then at parties [we host a lot of them] and then I started catching her playing them in her spare time.

Just have MAHJONG games installed (this should be around you ideal list of 15,000 - 20,000) oh wait 1 min, MAME is up to 15,000 games now? Need to update.  :dizzy:
Forget all other games.

I say, the more games you have, player(s) can't make up thier MIND which one to play.  :o

Anyway, I myself had Handpicked 1x1 the games I want in the Cab. IT's hard work but worth it.

I have about 1,500 hand picked games.
