I have pin shopping/repairing ADD
« on: May 06, 2010, 02:42:02 am »
I can't stay focused on one pin. Here are the pins I have that need attention and what I need to do with them. The problem is, I keep making tiny steps across all of them rather than finishing one and moving to the next.

- Revenge From Mars - Playfield is out of the machine and stripped down. I'm done cleaning it, I just need to replace the bulbs and put it back together. I finished the monitor swap last night, so my last steps are to get the playfield put back together and into the machine and to strip the protective covering from the NOS glass. After that, this thing is going to look like a 10/10 machine.

- World Cup Soccer '94 - Need to strip the playfield and clean everything. I have a new soccer ball to install, and I'm waiting on the replacement shooter assembly to show up. I also have to install the set of Cliffy protectors and fix a switch that seems flaky.

- Attack From Mars - Everything is good on this, but I need to give it a general cleaning. Probably don't need to strip it down at this point.

- Spider-Man - Just got this one,  and I don't have the keys for it. I need to drill the locks, replace the fluorescent bulb, and strip the playfield down and give it a full cleaning.

- Lord of the Rings - Need to replace the cave shot switch. I'm tired of adjusting the blade, I think the switch is just suspect as those types of switches tend to be. I also need to make a new plastic that goes under the ring ramp on the orbit shot. Mine broke and it's a pretty important plastic.

All my other machines are in pretty much the condition I want them to be in right now. I just need to have my wife hide the keys to all but one of my project machines until I'm done and then move to the next. Does anybody else struggle with being able to focus on one thing at a time, or is it just me?

Maybe stick with the machine that will require the least amount of time to fix that way you are getting more machines in the gameroom and out of the shop.

Maybe try to concentrate on the machine you want to play the most and get it working.

I find that when I have multiple projects I fall into the "pick the lowest hagning fruit first", wether or not it is on the same machine or accross different machines.

A Wise man once said, when you have a lot to do, break it up into small jobs and do one at a time (maybe Ben Franklin?). Anyway, that gives you a sense of accomplishment on some level.

I find that when I'm in the mood to work, be it  arcades, the Jeep, the yard, or whatever, I get really focused and knock out a lot. But when I'm not in the mood to do much other than play Call of Duty and drink and I force myself to work, the quality of work really seems to suffer and be pretty half-ass.
You probably remember me from such films as `The Revenge of Abe Lincoln' and `The Wackiest Covered Wagon in the West'

Too many things to do is what kills motivation for me. Key is to set 1 objective and forget about the rest.
NO MORE!!
