Cab or car
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:08:57 am »
So, i am only 16, and a time has come for me, should i save up to buy a really cheap car, or an arcade cab. I can use my parents cars freely, but would like my own, to do... things... in.

I do not know about your state.
Kentuck has a law . 1 year driver permit before you can get licence.
no underage passangers only licenced adults can be pasanger.
insurance will be high.
shop around and go to your insurance agent every 6 months and see if a cheaper insurance is available to you.
after a year or two your insurance will not be so bad.

Information fail: What type of area do you live in? If he's in a city with easy access to bus and subways, or stuff within walking distance, then a car is pointless.

As my parents said to me about a year ago: You can't take your girlfriend out to the movies in a pinball machine.

I believe this applies to you as well. Whether or not a girlfriend is/would be in the mix for us arcade folks in high school is another topic entirely...

A truck. The kind with a bench seat, not the captain's seats.

Here's why. First and foremost, you can transport future cabs with it.
Get the long bed, and you can toss a mattress back there. Need I say more?
Ditto on the camper shell. Or even a tent.

I've got a Tacoma and my GF and I went camping  ;) a lot with it. With the 4x4, we went stomping way out in the middle of nowhere for our outings (read: no one to bother us).

Insurance might be slightly higher if they view it as an SUV (Also known as, I-use-this-vehicle-for-fun-and-not-work). So you might want to look into that. For a long long time, my coverage in California was twice as much for half the coverage that both my parents combined got for similar vehicles.

Yeah, im looking into a pickup, because i like the fact that with an old pickup, you can just beat the crap out of it, it can transport, and when you look backwards you just see the road and not more car. i would like a pickup truck, except that this car will be driving me to and from work, and to and from school, every day. so i would like somthing with ok gas mileage. *cough*ford ranchero*cough*

Jeep Cherokee 4 door 4x4 applies to all of the above  ;D. Too back I can't haul a mattress, but all of my cabs will fit (well, the biggest will. I assume the other, smaller ones will...)

Definitely not the first choice for someone with a truck in mind, but if a truck doesn't come your way, these babies are easy to come by. A nice late 90s will run about $4K.

And $4k in Texas will get you a decent truck with an extended cab that's considerably more reliable than any Jeep vehicle these days.

17. It kinda does, yeah. It definitely explains why we have decided to associate ourselves with a previous generation.

Car/Truck > arcade cab.

If your mom and dad are receptive to an arcade machine coming into the house, then harass them into buying you one for Birthday or Christmas.

Oh, and I 2nd getting a "sleep" friendly vehicle.  ;) ;)

You can get a cab for $50 once you have a car.

Granted, when you're spending Friday nights alone with your cabinet, you'll feel less depressed about it if you can blame the lack of a car.  Once you've got a running car, your loneliness is your fault.

Get a truck... then you can get a cab.   A truck is WAY more important for a 16 year old than a cab.

If you get the cab,  make sure you stock up on tissue and hand cream too.  You'll need it.

I like the standard cab just fine. Pop a camper shell on there and you now can lock your stuff up and sleep in there  ;D. In collage I used to go take naps in between classes all the time with the added bonus of camping with the GF.  It's also a plus if you have lots of friends...they usually don't ask you for rides but in a pince you can load them all in the back. (I think it's ileagal now but  :dunno)

A small truck was ideal for me. In fact I still own it.

Standard cabs are awesome if you don't have any friends and like having your stuff blow away, get rained on, and 'disappear'.

Considering what he's going to be doing in that cab that may not be a bad idea.
