looking good.

the marquee light switch is a good idea!

those black strips are for the screen? i used double sided sticky tape, but you cant touch the little lines (touchscreen sensors i think) on the screen with it

This project is gonna rock!
I think the monitor I bought had 3 sensors. Both sides and bottom. (For what it's worth).

Today the motherboard, ram, harddrive, and powersource arrived. :applaud:  I finished painting everything and started putting the base together.  Everything fits together so far.............

I finished off the day by mounting the harddrive and motherboard to their new homes and they fit nicely.  Once I can start getting the frame together, I'll start to get the wiring underway.

Oh, and there is one slight problem down the road with this design, I'm not going to exactly be able to get the monitor out....................ever.  But, I'll cross that bridge when it gets here.   :banghead:

Tonight the speaker arrived.  Needless to say, it was a lot of work to get it ready.  First, I would like to say, Altec is misleading in the fact that the speaker housing only has two real speakers and a third without a magnet or connections.  Talk about a ripoff.  Anyways, I had three issues to address.  First, was figuring out how to open the dang thing as it was completely glued together.  I used some channel locks to help "convince" it that it should open.  Second, I created a holder for the speakers to cut out on the cnc, as the case it came in wasn't in the best condition after our little talk.  It was also not an ideal design for easy placement.  And last, but not least, I desoldered the power plug and soldered in some wires to run the power in line with the rest since there will be no plug ins on the inside of the jukebox.  So far, the house is still standing. :dunno

A non connected speaker is usually a passive radiator - it acts somewhere between a ported and sealed box, so you get some extended response like a port gives you, without the total loss of control of the speaker when trying to operate below it.

in something like this with small drivers and I assume equalisation and a subsonic filter I would question the need for it so it might just be a marketing thing.

The reason for my little rant was because the completely sealed case gives the impression that there are three speakers in there, and there is actually, it's just that it's a complete blank.  Thanks for the info though!

I still need to go back and finish the wiring on mine, so any extra documentation you can provide will be very helpful :)

Looks great.  Having a CNC takes weeks and weeks of labor out of the way, at least for me.

Big progress today.  All wiring on the top half is complete.  I momentarily hooked up the power to a pigtail and loaded windows, the touchscreen driver, and my music.  So far so good.  Tomorrow I plan on shining up the edges of the plexi and get that installed.  Once those pieces are in, I can complete the wiring on the base.  It won't be as pretty as Mountains, but I'm still very pleased.  It was a tight fit to get the power source in.  The wires from it alone made the insides look crazy busy.  My brother is getting this on the 30th, so I have a few days left to finish.  The only two things left to machine are the holder for the speakers, the plexi for the marquee, and the trim that goes around the outside of the jukebox.  We'll see..............

What we can't see, is that he's got his CNC machine churning around the clock, making an army of Mountain Jukebox clones, ready to take over the world.

I am about to put the shell on the outside.  Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been sanding for a week straight.  Well, maybe not that long, but it sure as hell felt like it!  I plan on doing a little separate write up on how to polish the plexi based off the suggestions Mountain gave me.  It looks great, but the process can kiss my butt! :afro:

I felt like throwing the entire project away when the first attempt at the shell exploded!  Fortunately, I took a break and rethought the idea and I was able to get it on okay.  There are a couple small cracks, but they can be sanded.  I believe the stress is going to come when I use the flush trim bit around the edges.  I have plenty of contact cement, so I am not worried about the laminate.

To finish:  I did not get a marquee made.  I also do not have the bottom speaker grill cut, but I am confident I could get that done tomorrow.  The other major item not finished is the trim that goes around the shell.  He can't fly home with it anyways, so I will have time after the fact to polish it all up.

I told my wife that instead of building a cab for our home I should probably start off with something smaller, say, a jukebox. Then I showed her this thread and a couple others. She wanted to know right off the bat if I was asking for a CNC machine...haha...yeah, I wish.

This already looks incredible. I love the detail work along the edge. You guys are amazing.

The pic of the case with all those clamps looks like a porcupine. :laugh2:  Love the carved edge detail.  I am guessing that the notes along the side will house LEDs?

Thanks for the compliments fellas!  There is still a ways to go in relation to the marquee, the speaker grill, and a couple more custom trim pieces.  The trim piece on the back has the quote from Blues Bros.:
... it's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses ...
Along the bottom it says, "... hit it ..."
The problem is that the trim piece is a hair too big and I think I will need to recut it.  But that's for another day.

Kaytrim,
The notes are to just be painted.  No leds this time............

More explanation later tonight after the game.
