Well, I have 9 days to build one of these buggies from start to scratch. So, here we go. I don't have my camera on me, so I'll do what I can today to keep you interested.

Ben has a full time helper that can work 24hrs a day if needed. And, he is real accurate...like a machine.

All right, at the end of day 1, here is what I got:
1. Motherboard, Ram, and Powersource ordered.
2. Magnets, lazy susan, and back grill purchased
3. 1/8" mdf purchased for shell
4. 1/4" black plexi already in hand.
5. Metal speaker grill already in hand.
6. Jukebox speaker ordered.
7. 500 gig harddrive already in hand.
8. Touchscreen already in hand.
9. White cold cathodes for marquee in hand.
10. Power connector for back of jukebox purchased
11. Laminate in hand.

Still need to stop at Radio Shack and pick up 1/8" jack, RCA jacks, switch, and ethernet plug. As well as screw terminals and tie offs. I also need to pick up a sheet of 1/2" pressboard or mdf to make the cabinet.

In terms of design, I've attached a couple of pics of what I have designed so far. They are in no way complete and far from done. I plan on doing all the cutting this weekend. We'll see................................

Waht CPU and Motherboard did you go with? Those intel ATOM Dual core setups are dirt cheap.

It's going to be an almost identical copy without the volume control and the back will look much simpler. Although Mountain told me he didn't care, I'm going to keep from giving all the details on how I built it. I will show most of the cnc work and stuff, just not all of the particulars.

I will be making it almost entirely by cnc. In my defense against purist, I have built a couple machines on here completely from scratch

. Also, I consider this new tool a whole new dynamic and challenge in terms of design and function. I have spent a few hours now working on the design in the software and I take it as a challenge to design something that not only looks good, but can be worked on at a later date. Now that I have a cnc machine, and have built both ways, I have just as much, if not more respect for someone with a machine due to it being a completely different medium in which to work and the expectations that come with it.

The design is mostly finished. I purchased the press board and mdf tonight for the main parts. If school is cancelled tomorrow, I'll try to get it cut out.

Okay, cutting started today. I already made one major design change, but I won't be able to cut it out until tomorrow. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Here are the internals laid out:

This is the center part that will hold the motherboard and harddrive. I have changed this design to make both parts easily accessible:

Here is one of the two support structures. They go between the front and the middle and the back and the middle:

Here is the base of the top and the top of the base with holes drilled ever so slightly for the magnet parts:

I made a couple pieces to create a gap between the fan and the top of the base to allow for wiring:

Here is the bottom of the base with holes for the feet to sit in for alignment:

Do you mill almost through the material and then just snap them out?

I could see you selling a few flat pack kits if you wanted to. Royalties would have to go to mountain of course

I have a friend with a wood cutting cnc machine and think that cutting the wood is only a small fraction of the work involved making one of these bad boys.... You can cut shapes consistently and more accurate than by hand, and with a few tweaks if anything goes wrong get back on track a lot sooner. Sone shapes that would take hours to cut could be done in a matter of minutes.

Finishing can take a lot longer with any project, I am unsure as to what extent a cnc machine would help with that though - but I am looking forward to finding out.

I have got the sides of my machine cut out by cnc, but are lying idle in the garage due to the rubbish UK weather.

Good luck - will be keeping an eye on this build

So that you will route out the extending wires shape from the touchscreen that it will be flush with the plexi

Today I visited Radio Shack and picked up just about everything else I will need. I still need a fan and that's about it. The computer should be here on Monday and I don't know about the speaker yet. I hope to finish designing the front and back tonight, as I have changed the design in my head about fifty times. They should get cut out either tomorrow or Sunday. I am hoping that by Tuesday I am in the drivers seat with this. Here's to hoping!

I do not have any plans to make kits. This is Mountain's design and I in no way intend to tread on that.

I picked up the final parts tonight at MicroCenter. I also finished toolpathing and drawing the remainder of the jukebox. Here is a couple pics of all the parts.

After seeing that CNC milling machine, I feel like I never want to build anything ever again. Suddenly everything felt, oh so impossible..

I finally was able to sneak away from the house to get the plexi cut. It was quite the nerve racking experience.

I was worried about the size of all the small holes, wether the acrylic would crack, and so on and so on. Well, it came out great I thought! Here are a couple of pics of the back of the bottom panel:

The panel includes a cat 5 hookup, an 1/8" jack for external speakers, rca outputs for external hookup, the power input, a power on button, and two switches. One switch is to switch between internal and external sound and the other is to turn the marquee light on and off.

The front of the juke came out well. I need to make a visit to Mountain to get some insight on how to polish this puppy up on the edges. The countersink on the back was .175" and the monitor fits like a glove:

The back came out well also. I probably should have just cut vent strips into the plexi, but I didn't trust that the machine would chip the acrylic or melt it, so I bought a plastic grill. Thus the big hole. I also included two usb ports on the back. Oh yeah, I also drilled 5, 1/8" holes 3/4" in to make the back removable to access everything:

I found out that my brother is not coming in to town until the 30th, so a little pressure is off. That doesn't mean I plan on slowing down this week though.
