Wiring ArcadeVGA to arcade monitor
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:45:18 pm »
Just wondering if any of you guys have wired an arcadevga (ultimarc) directly to an arcade monitor without a JPAC?  Ultimarcs info about it doesnt seem like they are sure it will work since the JPAC amps the video signal, they say it 'SHOULD' work....
I got the pinouts and it looks easy to connect.  They mention that arcade monitors have an adjustment for the video signal..What are they talking about?

"The ArcadeVGA card produces 1V signal level output. Wells-Gardner, Hantarex and many other monitors can accept this directly. "
"Our J-PAC or Video Amp make it easy to do this, but you maybe don't have to use these. All VGA cards (including our ArcadeVGA card) produce a RGB signal level of 1 volt. Game boards use a level of 5 volts. But Wells-Gardner and Hantarex (and many other) monitors are specc-ed to accept 1 volt or 5 volts"

I have and so as others.... Just make the breakout cable and connect it to the AVGA and Arcade Monitor.
Check the FREE section in B/S/T for the cable if you don't want to make it.

I wired mine this way and it's not that hard. As mentioned before you can get one in the free section for $8 shipped, but if you have an old monitor or VGA cable laying around, they are super easy to make.

Use the attached diagram.

Let me know if you have questions, I'll be glad to help.

I built one already, based off of the diagram Ultimarc has.  It says that you can connect all the 4 VGA grounds together?  I connected the ground and the 3 color grounds together and attached to the ground next to the blue pin on the monitor.    Ill have to wait till my arcavevga card shows up before I can post back the results..  Im going to try it on a WG K7000 and/ or a brand new 24.8" model monitor I bought from WG.

Awesome.  so now that we've got the VGA pinouts to arcade monitor sorted, is it possible to just
hook a PC up to an arcade monitor?  How do I get the signal to 15hz or whatever it is?

Cheers, Ahofle.

Now- just to be sooooper clear.....

I can make a VGA --> Arcade cable from a standard VGA cable using the pinout sheet posted by vetteguy,
install the soft15 and things should work fine?  No extra software or videocards?  Im talking on-board video
here.  Thanks for your feedback...

A couple of things to consider:
- Not all video cards (including on-board video) support 15khz resolutions.  There is a pretty big list of cards that do work with Soft15khz in that thread I linked.
- The BIOS screens when you boot up your PC are 31khz and will still be displayed as such even with Soft15khz installed.  Best case your arcade monitor will just not sync to it and will be blank until windows loads, worst case it may do some damage (although I've never heard of that happening personally).  There are a couple ways around this problem listed in that thread too if you want to play it safe.
