'TIMBERCADE' progress...Marque started, BYOAC plaque/door added.
« on: December 18, 2006, 02:53:00 pm »
You may have seen part of this project in the Main forum under the thread of my wifes carvings. I did create the cardinal sin when I brought this thing in the house unfinished. However, it was good too because now after a month or so of jamming on the machine we go back to the garage to fix all discovered bugs to this point.

Curious about the logs? We are going to trim this thing out via the "Up North" cabin feel. It is really popular in our part of the country and we thought: What the hell...You only live once right?

Punch List:
More Sideart
Marquee Work
Log Trim
All New CP
Bezel Glass Solution
Solid Monitor Mounting Solution
Small Coin Door
NAME I thinks we got it!
Other Misc

120 GB HD
Trinitron 19" Monitor not sure yet
2-Ultra Stik 360's
Ipac VE
Virtual Bluetooth Keyboard
Electric Ice 3"
2- Turbo Twist 2
Good Times

BACK TO THE GARAGE. Here is how my cab looks today...2/20.

Very rustic indeed! It's the arcade our forefathers would have played.  Congrats on the progress. Don't play it too much or you'll never actually finish the thing

Yes indeed! Indeed it is and will be forever rustic! If you're likin' it, it was my idea...If you hate it, you know this is all my wife's idea.

Big screw up today!! Didn't bring the camera to when I went to pick up those logs. That place was crazy! ...Talk about rustic man I was at the capitol of "RUSTIC" today. I won't go back without the camera. Yea, there was like 40 employess cutting wood like the stuff you see in the back of my truck...ALL for furniture. They all had various jobs of course, peeling, cutting, grinding, sanding, assembling, selling (to me) it was really, really cool. If that is not enough there are a few places in my neighberhood doing this stuff. You know they build this kind of stuff...

This stuff is getting popular up in our neck of the woods. It is kinda cool. We decided to go with the theme...Well i don't know why. maybe cause all I knew how to do was make a damn pinewood box anyway. I figured I could muster the knowledge to slap some LOGS on it afterwords too.

Some will HATE it and some might like it. Either way you shake it this is what I will be playing my games on. I think the games will play the same.

Ok I stand corrected. My sarcasm about Timber was innaprpriate. Don't knock it till ya try it right?

That CPO and rest of the cab for that matters is rather nice! I'm gonna try me some Timber today..Thanks Lew! You were instrumental in the naming of my machine!

Even though the "Timber" titled game fits well...I still want to steer somewhat towards the DK/Pac type classic theme, mixed with the Rustic/Timber feel, if you know what i mean.It will turn out cool! I promise.

PS: Allz I can say about the marquee is that it is gonna be crazy!

I noticed you need a solid method to mount the monitor.  May I shamelessly suggest the method I used for mine?  I used 1" square pipe from lowes.  I'll add a link to it once I figure out what page it's on.

EDIT: Here it is:

Whoa Mccoy...No shame there what-so-ever! That workmanship is rather TIGHT! Appreciate the pics but...

You see my dilemma, I wanna be lazy and not even decase the monitor. Yea you think that is shameful...Wait till you hear this...I was thinking some eye hooks and ratchet straps...No ---Cleveland steamer---. It will probably still float around at that point...add glue!?!?!

Now seriously.  You have hours and hours of work on the outside of that machine.  You could make brackets like mine out of wood in just a couple hours.  And decasing is so easy.  I had never done it before mine, and it was cake.  Eyelits and ratchet straps. :laugh2:

Thanks coder. It should be sweet when it is done. Big emphasis on when!

Ok, look at the log on the right...Looks pretty nice right? The log on the left has some weird dark looking squigly lines yea? Well at the log store they call that 'character'. Right now I'm calling it 'worm infestation'. I'm not buying that character stuff no more. Specially for like how ever many dollars per ft. I got into that corner piece.

But it is just loaded with 'character'.  :censored: Yea character...

Anyway, TIMEBERCADE progress going dormant again till I get me some new logs :-[

Mamey? Mitch I have multiple highly visible "character"...ehmm, worm lines running down my logs. Let me get that fixed and the marquee done and see if she is worth a hoot or not.

Appreciate that though but I was crying last night lookin at that.

Have your wife carve the top portions of the vertical logs like totem tops or something...she could integrate the "worms" in to her design and you wouldn't see a thing.

Great looking cab. Very original. What type of wood is this: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=61235.0;attach=63154;image

Seriously though man, thanks for stopping by and welcome to byoac. I have a feeling you won't bo going anywhere anytime soon so take your shoes off kick back!

I am so geeked to start working on my own cab. I'm doing my research, imaging all kinds of wonderful things. Ah, I can't wait for the joyous pain and cussing I am about to experience as I smash fingers, ruin boards, and end up with a cab that looks like an oversized bird house.

The wood on the overall project is junk grade laminated pine...scrap pile stuff, floor sweepings and what not. But a fews of these thugs seem to like the look...

No kidding? Wow. I didn't think pine could be made to look that good.

Oh and that is completely covered in polyurathane, except for the logs above which I suppose will eventually be, if my wife buys me some more.

It looks so good I'm thinking of covering myself in it. But I don't want to get arrested for public indecency. Again.  :-[
Charlie Brown: I'm still hoping that yesterday will get better.

Thanks Hav!....The nice words are welcome!

Bremil- I seriously cannot mislead you ANY further. All joking aside, go buy Saint's book for 30 bones dude. I wished I had. I haven't a clue as to what I'm doing here. I'm completely winging it and well. Yea, it looks different and all that, but I still should have gone more traditional for 1st time I think...THEN maybe some CRAZY poop like this. It might have all fit together a little easier.

Oh yeah, I've been waiting rather impatiently for over a week now for my copy to arrive. That's good advice to stick with a more simple/traditional look for a starter. I've actually been debating doing that, but one will be rather expensive and I'm not sure I'll get to a second.
